i am not a dissenter from jws--still an active member but i have an open mind and willing to listen to all who post here.
there have been some questions bugging me lately that have caused me to wonder about certain scriptures pertaining to being "born again.

I don't know about Goodwill, but the Society classes the Salvation Army as being part of Babylon the Great. The Society once disapproved of giving to religious charities. Flowerpetal says she won't join these religious charities, yet she clearly does not see that giving to religious charities is supporting them!
At the end of the course, they have a decision to make and that is do they want to dedicate their life to Jehovah and symbolize it by water baptism. And they need to know that this baptism will identify them as one of JWs.

Can she give a talk at the hall just like a man? (of course with a householder but the information she brings out still benefits the congregation).

Women are not allowed to give talks like the men do, period. The way they explain away women giving talks with a householder is that these talks are given as suggestions as how to present the info - so that the males can choose to accept those "suggestions" or not. (this is what my elder-father once told me)
One thing a lot of Witnesses that come to this board do, is forget that we who left have years of experience in the "truth" behind us. We are not idiots that have become foaming-at-the-mouth, satan-worshipping, drug-induced, sex maniacs that hate the Bible and anyone and everyone that calls themself a Jehovah's Witness.
We DO know what went on. We DO know how things operate in the Org. We still have family and friends in the Org. And we are normal people, really!!

i thought the name of this thread was so on time for this thread demostrates one of the sad things about claiming to speak for god, when one actually does not.. when i was a newly appointed elder at the tender age of 27 .
i was introduced to the world of the judical committee.. it was in fact my first case.
i had gotten a call from the po before the meeting stating that their would be an elders meetings to discuss some judical matters.
to Kimberley : I have been reading JT's posts for 2 years now, and I have to say he is one of the kindest, loving and funny guys I have come across on the net. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to meet him in person, but I think he would be just how his posts reflect him to be.
As he's a black guy, he's got every right to use the expression "big black mamma" or whatever. In fact it wasn't a label, it was a description!!
He was just making a point regarding the elder salivating over this young girl. Some men don't find overweight women physically attractive, just as soome men dont find thin women attractive. To each his own.

when my son came home from the meeting, he told me that they were told not to listen to eminem because (in his words) he's bad.. i can not stomach the kind of censorship that is put upon people...aren't these things a personal choice or at least a parents choice.
by censoring everything they make a child go behind their parents back and close the line of communcation which could result in some real harm.
i listened to eminem with my son and whilst some of the things are very offensive it was quite clear to me that although he was talking in the first person, he was actually expressing what he thought societal problems were,(no one think bob marley actually son the sheriff do they??).
Why would anyone want to listen to songs that talk about killing someone, raping a woman or murdering homosexuals?

having been brought up in the organization since age 3, the only memory of a birthday celebration i had was an old photograph of when i was 2. in front of the camera was my sister and i, with a cake baked in a regular rectangle cake pan, frosted, and with two candles sitting on top.
