Anyone Else?
by Viper76Man ini have been out of the religion for several years now (was rasied in it so have 18 years under my belt).... although i was never shunned.
it seems to me that lots of people have been ignored by members of the jw's after leaving.
i expected this to be the case and expected my family members to begin to keep there distance.

My sister is a bit like that. We've had arguments over my thoughts about "the truth" but now have agreed to disagree. We basically never talk about JWs or religion, and keep the conversation on more neutral things. I'm not df'd nor da'd either.
I think some JWs still associate with ex-jws because although they say they agree with the Witnesses' standards in regards to "worldly" people, they don't fully believe it themselves. Maybe they don't see you as "bad association" and consider your friendship more important than JW rules.
Or perhaps they secretly would like to leave and be like you, but are still tied to the religion somehow, maybe with family or social ties.
Alternatively, but I suspect this is only in very few cases, they may think that they can win you back to the religion. They may reason that by you having their "good association" you'll be drawn back to "the truth" and that will justify any "worldy" influence you may have had on them.
Edited to say: Welcome to the board!!

Michael Jackson: The Irony
by Stephanus in.
i imagine there's a gleeful rubbing of hands in bethel, and lots of self-congratulatory statements circulating about how right disfellowshipping is and how how it keeps the congregation clean.
meanwhile, silentlambs files continue to grow in number, thanks to the protection of paedophiles within the org because of the application of the insane "two witnesses" policy.

He left after "Thriller" was released.
I hear Michael still contributes a large amt. of $$$ to the wts. Hush Money perhaps?
I daresay he contributes money to lots of causes he'd consider "worthy".

JW Speaks up on Today Show on Behalf of Michael Jackson
by Gretchen956 indid anyone else see the witness who was interviewed on the today show as a friend of the jackson family in support of michael?
in light of all the child abuse mess within the organization you would think that they would stay away from that one.

I find it highly unlikely that a JW in good standing would go on national tv and speak up on behalf of a disfellowshipped person.

Michael Jackson disassociated himself in the early 80s, after "Thriller" came out. He apparently caused much controversy with his desire to release the title track, with the elders telling him not to go ahead with it (due to the spiritistic/horror nature, etc). He went ahead with his music, and told the elders where to go.
I knew a bro who used to be a MS in Jackson's congregation who was the source of this information.

Tacky??? Yeah, whatever. Eman trying to downgrade a poster after they've been deleted (thus not able to defend themselves here) is not just tacky, but tasteless too.

Eman, aren't you "playing to the crowd" yourself?

A question for those who do NOT live in the United States
by logansrun ini've heard it over and over again in conversations about the us -- "what other country would you rather live in?
" the question is stated in such a fashion as to say that nothing is better than living in the good 'ol us of a.
"what, are you stupid?

Just a point about "safety":
America is one of the least safest places to be at the moment, IMO. Since Sept 11, I've heard few Aussies express any interest in travelling there. Due to the drop in tourism, the prices for tickets to the USA have dropped dramatically, but why go somewhere that has the threat of terrorism hanging over its head?
The safest country at the moment I think is New Zealand. To the majority of the world, it doesn't even exist

I can't think of anything that America has that Australia doesn't have (positive things). I've been to the States and I've also been to England as well as Italy, Russia and Mexico. In the States and Italy I stayed with locals, so I got the local feel for the place. Thus, I have experienced cultures different to mine.
Quite frankly, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but Australia. The other alternative would be Canada - its culture and people seems very similar to Australia's.

Eman,
Care to show us where I keep making "sniping" attacks on Simon? He's the one that follows me, making insult after insult. If you like, I can find links to heaps of threads where Simon has followed me and attacked me without provocation. (Just had deja vu - I used to say the same thing about Farkel. Funny that.)
One thing I do notice is that posters on JWD are all-too ready to tar and feather posters from JWO, based upon the posts of a tiny few. Since I am a participant of both boards, and have friends on both boards, then I don't see why it is a crime to speak up when insults and mistruths are hurled in the direction of JWO posters, no matter who they come from.
