Well... the 'god of the bible'... is not necessarily the God and Father of Christ.
mP:
Then why is Jesus constantly quoting the OT and saying it doesnt need to be changed in Mat 5 and other places ? Why did he lie to us ?
greetings.. allow me to set the questions up.. after 30 years in the truth (i'm now late 40's) and having established the truth about the truth i consider myself agnostic going on atheist.. i struggle to believe there is a god when i observe life yet i try to convince myself there must be something out there.. here's the basis of my question: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23583116 .
in summary, 2 young boys have been killed by a snake that escaped from a pet store in canada.
it made it's way up through the ventilation into the apartment they were staying in.

God' isn't the source of laws about not murdering people.
TEC:
God IS love... and love is the source of such laws.
Love of course existed long before laws that stem from love were ever written down, for people who did not have those laws written upon their hearts.
mP:
Do you really think that people in Australia, Africa, the Americas and Pacific didnt have laws against murder. How do you explain there are so many Chinese even back then ? if they didnt know jehovah they should have murdered each other out of existance.
And yet with gods chosen ones , we see the exact opposite, a small nation remains small and weak while others without god grow strong and great.
How do you explain what i just said ?
i believe a good judge would have to hear both sides of the story before making a final judgment.
however, i don't ever recall hearing satan's side of the story in the bible.
i remember only 3rd party hearsay evidence (which is not evidence).
WTWizard:
Your right, ever story in the bible has only one theme, the selected or special one is an areshole and can do anything regardless of the goodness. Theres not a single story of kindess or goodness done by one of gods special ones.
mP:
Jesus says the same, after all he encourages people to be obedient to all government paying their taxes multiple times. The story of J & Mary travelling is another example of extreme obedience. Even with a pregnant wife Joseph will do anything to pay his taxes.
Bio
Jesus didn't sound too overly enthusiastic about paying taxes. It sounds more like he paid the tax begrudgingly.
24 After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?”
25 “Yes, he does,” he replied.
mP:
How did you guess his emotion from those words ? > Yes he does, he replied <, just five words...
Why is tax payments mentioned so frequently in action(like above) and parables ? There can only be one conclusion jesus is setting an example he wants others to copy. Otherwise whats the point of including this and the others ? They can serve only one purpose and thats why they are repeated so often.
VM44:
Does Paul prove this statement, or does he simply state it?

Truth
I don't recall Satan giving orders to destroy cities full of women and children, Nor do I recall hearing any 1st hand testimony on his behalf, where he got a chance to set the story straight. Kinda seems like he got the short end of the stick......
mP:
Satan never does a wrong or evil thing. The only wrong he did was question Jehovahs authority. Too many people read the OT as an account of morality its just propaganda to justify a particular ruler be they priest or king. Naturally these individuals say only they are right and god selected them. Therefore god must always be right, just like them.

Lucifer does mean Light-bearer, illuminated one etc. Could it be possible that it is the other way around?
mP;
Lucifer is another name for the planet venus. Read the scripture (lucifer only appears once in the bible in rev) replacing lucifer with venus and its all true. Venus appears before the sun etc.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucifer
Lucifer ( / ' l u? s ? f ?r / or / ' lj u? s ? f ?r / ) is the King James Version rendering of the Hebrew word ?????? in Isaiah 14:12 . This word, transliterated hêlel or heylel , occurs only once in the Hebrew Bible and according to the KJV-influenced Strong's Concordance means "shining one, morning star, Lucifer". [1] The word Lucifer is taken from the Latin Vulgate , [2] which translates ?????? as lucifer , [ Isa. 14:12 ] [3] [4] meaning "the morning star, the planet Venus", or, as an adjective, "light-bringing". [5] The Septuagintrenders ?????? in Greek as ?ωσφ?ρος [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] (heosphoros), [11] [12] [13] a name, literally "bringer of dawn", for the morning star. [14]
mP:
Go back adn read many of the supernatural descriptions of Jesus and replace Jesus name with Sun and its all true. The sun comes in the clouds, it walks on water, it feeds all creatures, it is the light of the world etc.
The authors are merely talking about our world, with the Sun being the giver of life.
we all remember this passage vividly: from there elisha went up to bethel.
while he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him.
"go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!
@now
Thats the point of the story, to scare others into obedience. Nothing in the bible is about justice its all self serving for the group in power who coincidently also happen to have written thebible your reading.

What makes you think King david was any better than HItler ?
Both were psychopaths, who killed anyone and everyone. Both killed people based on racial views. At least H didnt give 200 foreskins for a wedding present.
this one is shorter than usual (!
), since it makes a simple point, based on jesus' example found in john 8:.

The slavery bit is getting old. Anyone who had a job back then was a slave/servant of someone, except the Emperor. If you have a job today, you have a Master. There is nothing wrong with telling people to be a good worker/servant/slave in the Greek language.
mP:
As Adam mentioned theres a big difference between being a slave and an employee today. I guess Spartacus and his 100k rebellious slaves risked their lives to fight the roman Army over nothing. Slaves got raped, murdered, and never got to go home for some free time. Im sure if you were a slave then you not be talking quite as liberally as you are now.
The problem is Jesus should have mentioned this arrangement was wrong. by not doing so he is no different from his contemporaries.
