i recently read in discover magazine that scientists have found a way to turn on and off memory cells in our brain.
they say that this is good news for people with post traumatic stress disorder, which i was diagnosed with a few years ago.
this, to me, brings up the ethical question of what did the traumatic events in my life, and the lives of others, add to society as a whole?

S&G were not destroyed for sexual immorality. The text and other commentaries in the NT clearly state they were destroyed for neglecting the poor etc, none say anything about sexuality.

i've had a discussion with a friend concerning the gb or org being "inspired" or "spirit-directed" or a "prophet".
i found the great strings about claiming prophet status (particularly 04/01/1972 wt and 10/01/1982 wts).. it seems i recall a wt or other publication where they compared themselves to moses, or even jesus as the one channel being used by jehovah.
while i don't recall any claim of "inspiration", there are dozens using "spirit-directed organization".. interestingly, note the reference to jesus:.

WE today have a very sensitive nose for foul things such as poop. People in the past, even just a hundred years ago got by living in their own filth. All streets in the past were literally open sewers with dead rotting animals and poop. I know the Jews had customs about waste disposal, however they would have more stomache than us. Funnily enough the Koran has pages and pages devoted on how and where and with what hand one poops.
Given that muslims share many customs of ancient jews one has to wonder how this was all managed.

Actually, in Canada, only pets are protected under the law. You can do anything you want to a wild animal, even torture it,,, and it's not against the law. Perhaps it's different in your country, but unless they are endangered on the endangered species list, wild animals have ZERO rights in Canada.

At least some animals have rights in Canada. In Africa for examples all animals have practically no rights, and its not a wonder humans there have for all practical comparisons no rights as well. My point was that whie not perfect, the more rights some or all animals have the better humans are as well. I would have thought most wild animals in Canada had rights, because here in Australia, wildlife in general have some protection. In practical terms it is difficult to protect the wild because they are alone in the middle of nowhere but at least its a start.

Dont worry Jehovah and Satan dont exist. In fact xians today tell many lies, Satan only appears by name in Job and a handful of NT scriptures. Most of the other times such as talking to Eve is a downright lie as reading Gensis 3 shows for itself.

Ive been reading some books about Bible stories in their original form, and to be fair our translations from the original language paint a very different picture. The classic example is the scripture in Isaiah where it supposedly states that the messiah will be born from a virgin. Translators have conveniently altered words resulting in a very different meaning. I cant help if the story of Noah is perhaps telling us something different but over time, xian knowledge of the global flood, has left translators in a pickle where they cant or wont tell us what the text really says. Then again perhaps someone in the past also changed the text when it travelled from Hebrew to Latin or Greek.

Of course we are lucky that the hard work is done by machines and others far away from home.
There is a strong pattern between human rights and the way we treat animals.
Take a look at China and how they treat for example bears, where they milk them for bile etc. That sort of action is outlawed in first world countries. Im not comparing animal and human rights, but the fact is we in first world countries make this sort of activity illegal and it is also true that citizens in our countries have more rights.
While everyone knows that England its empire were the first to the industrial revolution not many realised they were amongst the first to establish and protect and assign rights to animals. The best countries on our planet typically also have institutions similar to the RSPCA, lesser countries just dont give a damn.
The way we treat animals is directly related to how we treat our fellow humans.
the religion of jehovah`s witnesses is not bible based , their beleifs are not based on what the bible says.. the bible doesnt keep changing its words , it`s basically the same today as it was centuries ago.. what the jw`s taught quoting a bible scripture in years gone by is not the same thing being taught today using the same scripture and no doubt wont be the same thing taught using the same scriptures in the future.. their beleifs are based on what interpretation the governing body gives scriptures at any given time and every time they re-interpret the scriptures everybody follows suite.the writings of russell,rutherford,knorr,franz,etc bear testimony to that fact.. the bible hasn`t changed but the teachings of jehovah`s witnesses is in a constant state of change.. so at what stage is the religion of jehovah`s witnesses" the truth" ?.
if what they taught yesteryear is not what they teach today then they have never had the truth.. if what they teach today is the truth then they never had it previously.
and one thing you can be certain of what they teach today wont be what they teach in the near future.
lying about whats written in the bible by way of interptetation has been used before the bible was completed. mt twisted many scriptures to show jesus was spoken about in the ot, like micah 5:2.

how did god call to account against the king of babylon (thus supposedly ending the 70 years of desolation) in 537bc.....2 years after babylon fell?.
