The nearest KH in my part of the world is in a rural area five-six miles from where I live and serves four small town. While we were waiting to build it 20+ years ago, we had to drive to a neighboring hall thirty minutes away. Some living farther out had a 45 minute drive or more. That was just for a few months in spring and early summer. It would be a MAJOR problem to try doing it in the middle of a Pennsylvania winter. The main road can be nasty on a winter's night with snow drifting and blowing and ice. I can't see the elderly especially or families risking that on a weekly basis because their hall has been sold.

I need more faith so I've been told
by hoser ini attended the circus assembly last weekend and i have come to the conclusion i am lacking faith.
the opening talk on the program, the very first words that came out of the speakers mouth told me so.
he said most of us here are lacking faith even though we might not know it.

What they really mean is 'blind faith'. Those with blind faith will:
1) Neglect their education, settle for dead end jobs and not prepare for the future because the GB says devote that time and money to the org. "The New System is coming soon so why bother?"
2) Will slave until they drop 'doing more' (which will never be enough) and never do anything they really want to. "You can do all that in the New System!"
3) Will make martyrs of themselves or worse, their innocent kids, by refusing blood transfusions. "Don't mourn. You'll see them again in the New System! Maybe. If you toe the line."
4) And will follow the slightest whims of the GB without allowing themselves to ask questions. "They're our ticket to the New System!"

If you're looking a more humorous (also sad in places) take on growing up a JW, I recommend Kyria Abrahams' "I'm Perfect You're Doomed". This was the first book I came across that described my life as a JW child to a T. Her glossary of JW terms is a hoot.

When you were fully in, did you believe that you would not die?
by TTWSYF ini know that it must seem silly to ask, but my brother and his family think that the big a will arrive before they die.
i tried to explain to my brother that everyone else who has ever lived in the past has died and only jesus has [physically] rose from the dead.. it is amazing that anyone could buy that line.
what crazy cult culture that could make people believe such nonsense?!.

No, I never really bought into that particular fairy tale. I HOPED it might be true, but never really deep down BELIEVED. It got even harder to accept as I began to se the old timey rock solid JWs who had been around for the 'Millions Now Living Will Never Die!" announcement die off. They REALLY believed but they're all gone now. My mom still says she hopes she'll never die but she doesn't seem too certain. Its sort of a wistful "Wouldn't it be nice" daydream for her.
I'm just starting to come to terms with knowing that someday (far in the future I hope!) my mom is going to die and I'm going to have to deal with it. My own death doesn't really bother me. It's the idea of possibly outliving everyone I care about that bothers me. I've seen what happens to the elderly who don't have anyone and it gives me some sleepless nights.

The most sick statement put in JW print
by Chook inwt 1973 p568.
"did you know, for example, that mothers and fathers that stroke the genitals of their fretful babies to keep them quiet are unwittingly encouraging them to become maturbators later on?".
what sick fu... writing this article thought the the average person did this to keep kids quiet..

Funchback, that's too funny! It's especially funny because I can see them writing exactly that.
From the same Washtowel article: "Sisters, when you wipe after doing your business, take care that you do not wipe so hard as to arouse yourselves. Some have chosen to avoid wiping altogether so as to flee from unclean desires. Should you fall into unclean habits, report said habits to your ever loving elders in elaborate detail so they can get off."

Circuit ASSembly low-lites
by FedUpJW inso in an effort to relieve some pressure here are what i term the low-lites of yesterday's assembly that i had to endure for the sake of family still in and my progressing fade.
apologies in advance for being pretty long winded.. these may not all be the actual words used, but the ones i use are close, and they pretty well say what was said from the platform.. right off the bat in the opening prayer the praises of the governing body were spoken.
thanking the g.b.

Doubting Bro, wasn't the supposed reason behind ending the Book Study so the dear brothers and sisters could save on gas money? I was gone by then so don't know firsthand but that's what my JWmom told me. Now here they are telling members "Gee, we sold your hall so now you have to drive 20 miles away." No concern about the high price of gas. No concern about the possible dangers of traveling in nasty winter weather. Just "Suck it up, Buttercups!"

Well, shadow, we're talking about a magazine article written for a largely Western audience. And around here, any adult caught stroking their babies' privates would be in jail. Or I would hope so anyway.
This is a good example of the WT's obsession with sex, sex, and more sex. It's almost pornographic the way they write or discuss various sexual practices in detail. I really think someone in the Writing Department gets off on this crap.

Midweek meeting video
by aboveusonlysky indid anybody see the service meeting video this week?.
australian sister was sexually abused as a child and thought of ending her life at 14 years old, sometime later jw's call on her father who accepts a study and eventually the whole family becomes witnesses, life gets much better as the sister immerses herself in pioneering etc, she still has some dark days but prayer along with going for walks and swimming has helped her cope with bad memories of child abuse, the new system (just around the corner) will completely fix everything......... i'm dumbfounded, the hypocrisy has literally rendered me speechless......comments anybody?.

This is no accident. This is the WT propaganda machine trying to undo whatever damage might have been done by believers who have heard or read about the ARC. Sick. Disgusting.
And notice they don't suggest victims of child rape get professional care. Nope. "Pioneer and all will be cured!" "Wait on Jehovah! One of these days, someday in the future, he'll wave his magic wand and make everything ok." Makes my blood boil!

The Biggest Mistake The GB Have Made In The Last 10 Years
by pale.emperor ini think the single biggest mistake the governing body have made in the last 10 years has to be creating jw broadcasting and putting their gb members on there... on a weekly basis too.. when i was a kid, i had no idea who the governing body were, what their names were or what they looked like.
there was one or two long term pioneers that knew the names of two of them but that was about it.. when i was about 10yo i imagined they looked something like this:.
ahh.... those learned men with a lifetime of bible knowledge just oozing out of their very hearts.

This while venture into the wicked WWW could be a two-edged sword. Yes, the truly hardcore glassy-eyed zealots will eat this poo up and beg for more. They won't question because that would require thinking and their brains' thought centers have rusted up. That sort won't see anything wrong and will merrily carry on as usual.
But, there are others in the JW ranks who WILL see something wrong. If I were still in, I'd have been offended by Tight Pants Tony, embarrassed by Lett, annoyed by Splane. The broadcasts would have been a big help in getting me out. Too bad it wasn't around way back when. Sigh. But others will be helped to wake up by the broadcasts. And if outsiders are exposed to these videos and see the GB in all their idiocy, they're a lot less likely to join. 'True believers' can keep the whole thing ticking over only so long without fresh blood.

The writer was probably a pedophile writing about one of his sick fantasies.
