as it's a round the world ticket we can stop twice on the way and have decided to spend 2 days in ny and 2 days in la.
so, we've got limited time and don't want to spend an absolute fortune (so disneyland is out).
In LA get tickets to the Jay Leno Show. (they're free and it is entertaining and you see some stars which is what LA is all about)
Go to Venice Beach. Walk & Walk, (free) Rent skates or a bike. (almost free)

I used to have a "skeptical" curiosity about UFO's but using JW-THINK I believed they were another type of demonic activity.
After a personal experience (described at http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/18868/1.ashx) I now believe that there is something going on.
The JW's that shared the same experience I had believe it was some kind of demonic event.
I am very open minded now. Of course it's not something you can use to persuade others. Personal experience is poor evidence for a solid scientific hypothesis. Kind of like miracle cures for fatal diseases. It happens - and it is profound for the person experiencing it - but that's where it stops.
I heard that the Jennings program will be boring to people who are regular UFO information consumers. In other words if you used to listen to Art Bell you won't hear anything new.
I am anxious to hear metatron's comments after he sees the program.

If you are creative you should be able to engage the groups sense of curiosity. As a good teacher that should be your aim. If you can't nudge people into using their brains a little then you ought to step down from your responsibility.
People need to learn that the questions at the bottom of the page are not REALLY questions. They are commands masquerading as questions. They really are saying "Repeat what paragraph 6 says about the identity of the King of the North!!!"
You need to become skilled in asking two simple questions. What do you (they) mean? How do we (they) know?
And if you really want to take a few risks you can ask a question like "How would you answer someone who asked this question...
When you approach it with real questions you will get the group to actually think.

as most of you know by now i have told you that my mom has been a "devout" jw for over 40 years and i can't get her to budge.
well the last time we debated she left me totally confused and in a daze.
i did some fast research and this past sunday we had a free-for-all debate that lasted 5 hours.
Tell your mother to bring her stuff into this forum. We'll tear it up. This is why I refuse to engage in anything but a written discussion. It is crazy to think that something as important as "belief" can be resolved in the context of an oral discussion where everyone can deny they said something and shift ground at will. If it is worth discussing it should be done in writing. That's how scholars do things. Publish a thesis that can be challenged in writing. Publish the rebuttals. Who ever walks away without answering the rebuttals loses.
Oral discussions were great before we had pencil and paper. Truth is not determined in 5 hours.

i understand that they were killed for lying, not for being greedy, but the lie was a fairly petty charge to lose their lives over.
i love that in the story they managed to prepare the husband for burial and bury him before the wife happens to show up.

i can only think of mormons but know of missionaries in the catholic and cof e faith.

If it weren't for the conversion activities of other Christian religions ( some admittedly violent) Jehovah's Witnesses would have no audience. They have done well primarily in preaching to other Christians. Most witness converts in so-called non-christian lands were members of christian churches or educated in christian schools where they were exposed to the Bible.

Two thirds of human conversation is gossip. It is actually a vital tool of maintaining community. Most gossip isn't malicious. However, Jehovah's Witnesses have a higher wall to maintain their community. They are bound to have a higher percentage of negative things to say about people because they have more things in their rule book. Add to that the amature counselors (known as "elders") and the idea that you have to confess your wrongs to them to be forgiven and you have a recipe for real harm. That's probably why xjw's perceive the organization to be "gossipers" in a bad sense.
