OK I get it. You are in the process of figuring out exactly what you believe.
the babylon with "graven images" quoted from jeremiah and isaiah was not a religious entity but a political entity.

The word "freedom" or "captivity" is not mentioned in Revelation 18. So why does this become a central part of your interpretation?
The command is "Get out of her my people". What are God's people doing in "false religion" or "false christianity"? If they have the label "my people" than they are free of any enslaving deception. The command to "Get out of her" is given to those who have already left behind the enslaving ideas of this world.

I don't care what people choose to discuss on a thread that I start. I'm not territorial. My objections are not with you. You aren't claiming that it is impossible for Babylon the Great to be a political entity. Are you?
The Watchtower claims that Babylon the Great cannot be a political entity. And I have rebutted the fallcious reasoning used to make their claim.
Now you claim that Babylon the Great is a religious entity. And you make that claim even though Revelation 18 never uses the word "religion". It doesn't mention idols. It doesn't mention altars, temples, priests. So there is little evidence for your claim.
I'm alright with that as long as you don't make the argument that Babylon the Great cannot be a political entity.
"through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.
" romans 5:12. this verse has been used to prove that adam was responsible for sin and death.. from a christian standpoint, this is true.
did adam really know the full effects of eating the forbidden fruit?.
The dilemmas and paradoxes that result from believing this story is true prove to me that it is a myth.
And to think that the story of Adam & Eve stands in the way of accepting evolution!!!!
does having faith mean, believeing any religion, no matter what your intelligence permits you to think is right?.
Faith is having regular visits from Angels like Abraham experienced.
I would have faith too, if I had a visit or two from superhuman spirits.

Please read threads completely before you comment.
i don't often open up discussions on my beliefs or experiences in life, but i feel a need, so please excuse me if you feel it untoward.
neither is this a poxy swan-song, i'm just opening up my heart a little.. today i had cause to reflect on a conversation i had with my [now ex-]wife shortly after my epithany.
everything was so new and unknown.

Well I finally see what I'm doing wrong. We get in a helping mode. We want to direct another person in their journey. You had an experience. You have disclosed as much as you care to.
It is natural to spin the metaphors and go to one's taxonomy and classify things. We then play the Procrustes game of fitting people to our beds.
When you figure it out let me know exactly what you figured out.

I have pretty much left this thread after a difficult start. But I have been following it. Also I have been reviewing my library of Psych books and Google of course to answer my own questions.
I am inclined to view this type of experience as possibly a little bit of a dissociative "problem".
I think it may be an effort at quick closure to a dilemma. It is kind of a projected solution. And it may have elements of child like narcissim. We want to think of ourselves as special. The real world doesn't allow this but a belief that God cares about us individually gives us the spotlight.
I am fond of African American gospel music. I listen to it on my mp3. It is very uplifiting. It doesn't make me believe in God. But it touches me that humans are so desperate for the Ideal Lover, friend, father, mother that they will idealize these needs in a perftect person.
Does anyone know much about how Tolkien was instrumental in the conversion of C.S. Lewis?
the watchtower always portrays the ancient nation of israel as far more advanced than the nations around them.. for the last few years, the more i have read, the more i have found this not to be the case.
take for example this excerpt from 'by the waters of babylon' james wellard, 1973:.
the garden of eden legend, therefore, must certainly have been conceived in the minds of these semitic desert-dwellers who came out of the arid wastelands of the arabian and syrian deserts and saw before them the bright green fields and leafy orchards of the sumerian communitites.

A professor of African languages once corrected me on referring to African Languages as dialects. They are all distinct languages and only referred to as dialects by the "Superior" european colonialists.

The Watchtower is always pointing out how enlightened the Isreaelites were because they crapped outside their camp.
It stinks and attracts flies. Is that hard to figure out? Do you need Jehovah to tell you that?
Why didn't God tell the Jews to boil the water?
Why were men allowed to divorce women but women couldn't divorce men? The Egyptian women could divorce their husbands.
The law is riddled with "magic". One example is Leviticus 14. Take two birds. Cedarwood, coccus scarlet material and hyssop. Kill one bird in a clay pot over running water. Take the live bird dip it in the blood of the dead bird. Spatter the leper with the blood seven times. Release the live bird. Declare the leper clean.
This is nonsense. Fred Franz (Jewish Pharisee Wannabe) was obssessed by the old law. That's why he got the whole organization off on the blood transfusion tangent.
