He was in the middle of a debate on evolution. I think he was bored.

The biggest mistake is that the Watchtower is one of those who say "Look! Here is the Christ. Look! He is in the wilderness! Look He is in the inner chambers! The due time has approached!
Obviously those declaring that Christ has come in some way that isn't plainly evident are false prophets. If someone is in the wilderness he's not yet visible. If someone is in the inner chamber you can't see him. There is no need to declare "Look! There he is." if every eye can see him. And when he becomes visible it seems the beholders have no trouble figuring out what they are looking at.
As for the idea that Jesus comes like a thief in the night: 1Thess 5:4 "But you brothers, you are NOT in darkness so that that day should overtake yuou as it would thieves...(6) So then let us stay awake and keep our senses. AND Luke 21:36 "Keep awake, then...that you may succeed in escaping all these things that are destined to occur and in standing before the son of man."
The signal event is the "disgusting thing standing where it ought not". You need to escape by taking flight. But flight from where to where? That is the important question.

Sometimes I wonder if a person can really be "free" if they never were a slave. Value your experience and the mental toughness it has given you.

adjustments in understanding.

Name better ways to attract new people at the Kingdom Hall?
by JH in1) build a hall in the center of the city, not far away like they usually do.. 2) make it 1 hour meetings.
3) dress clean, that's all.
4) beards or no beards, that's not important, it's what's in your heart that counts.. .

Build a big bell tower and ring it everytime there is a meeting.

When did it all go wrong for the WTS? I say 1980's.....
by jambon1 inafter speaking to an elderly jw a few weeks ago, it occured to me that the wts genuinely experienced good times in the 50's and 60's, perhaps the 1970's.
it seemed a good place to be.
people seemed more relaxed.

It all started falling apart when Fred Franz started shaping organization policy around entering the promised land. He looked at 1975 as the point where the organization had to become as OCD as he was in order to be "clean" for passage through the great tribulation. Franz was the self-proclaimed visionary and his vision was wrong. He was a crank and Knorr was preoccupied with manufacturing books and magazines.
The largest increases were in the post world war II period up to the mid 1950's. The early 1960's became a period of stagnation. The baby-boomers would have all left the organization if it weren't for the 1975 idea. Many including myself figured they could put their lives on hold until 1975. The baby-boomers were entering the critical life planning stage from 1960-1975. Most of the leadership in the congregations are aging boomers. If it weren't for 1975 the organization would 10 years further in the toilet. If nothing extraordinary happens by 2014 it will decline rapidly.
Of course a die-hard apologist could say that Jehovah preserved the baby-boomers by the 1975 fiasco.

Anathema of Science and Religion
by LittleToe injust a short "starter for ten" question:.
have you noticed how so many exjws are polarised as to their views of particularly science and religion?
some seem to take the time to get informed, and others are content to hold onto previous [mis]conceptions (most likely coloured by the wts) about science and religion being evil and/or corrupt.

I think of Religion as very old "science". Kind of a protoscience. Religion is an attempt at orientation in time.

What do you think the biggest danger to the end of mankind or earth is?
by free2beme ini love watching shows on the history channel, discovery channel and so on.
they had this program on the other day, on the ten biggest threats to mankind and the planet earth.
surprisingly, none of the items on the list were god destroying mankind or the earth, so that must be further evidence that the witnesses were wrong, go to college now and retire.

Study Detects Recent Instance of Human Evolution
by zagor instudy detects recent instance of human evolution by nicholas wadea surprisingly recent instance of human evolution has been detected among the peoples of east africa.
it is the ability to digest milk in adulthood, conferred by genetic changes that occurred as recently as 3,000 years ago, a team of geneticists has found.. the finding is a striking example of a cultural practice the raising of dairy cattle feeding back into the human genome.
it also seems to be one of the first instances of convergent human evolution to be documented at the genetic level.

I also go by what I see and don't see. I've never seen God take a lump of clay and breath life into it. But, I wonder why God couldn't have made primates with 30 or 34 teeth instead of 32. It would have helped me a little. Or why does the whale have that hip bone floating in its body? There are thousands of these things.
