  The sad part of this situation is that the Taliban are an improvment over the situation that existed before they took over. Women were being abcucted all the time. They put a stop to that.

  Ballistic:

  I don't believe in an "ALL" GOD anymore. I think both pain and pleasure are our teachers. If there are words in the Bible that are valid prophecies they were placed there by some other species for the purpose of preserving our species. It remains to be seen if individuals are really that important. The personal desire for everlasting life may be a type of egoism. On the other hand prolongation of life is the "telos" of life.

  Some advanced form of life may have found the "secret" of life and even resurrection. At this stage, all of these wonderful hopes probably can best be understood as "GOD". We (I include myself) have not grown up yet.

  also, the society applied the symbolic two-horned lamb beast to the uk and usa.. now, considering this .... .

  just who has proven to be the wild beast on tuesday, 9-11?

  They are off on the Anglo American thing. They claim the head of the beast that revives (Rev 13) is the Anglo American experience during WWI. Ask any British school boy when the British empire died and he'll think you're crazy.

  The only significant empire that died in modern history is the Soviet Union. There is nothing that occupies the political space that you can call the Soviet Union after 1991.

  I know some American Indian tribes believed in The Great White Spirit restoring the sacred earth. I am a little suspicious of what the Mormons believe in this area.

  I would like to clarify something here.

  I am not trying to set myself up as a prophet. I would never want to lose the privacy annonymity grants. I simply want answers from the Watchtower.

  I hope this comes to their attention. I have presented a dilemma to them. It is impossible for them to defend their explanation of Babylon the Great. I have confronted them with the fact that Jesus could only be referring to literal flight. The warning to discern the sign of the disgusting thing standing where it shouldn't is given to Christians so that they can escape. It is not given as one of those prophecies that we will only understand when it is long past. They don't have the luxury of waiting around til the dust settles.

  If this event isn't the sign of the disgusting thing then what would you expect the sign to be? The Watchtower thinks it is the UN attack on Babylon The Great. But Babylon the Great is NOT the world empire of false religion. The disgusting thing serves as a signal to Christians. It has to be significant, frightening, and portentious.
  After the signal of the "disgusting thing" things have to return to a degree of normality during which Christians are to avail themselves of the opportunity to flee.

  Here is my dilemma. If the Watchtower fails to recognize the error of their Babylon the Great interpretation then they most certainly will not act on this "signal". In fact no organization will consider this event as anything more than one of those horrible things humans do.

  In that case I will finally have to acknowledge that the Bible is just a book of non-sense. I DO have a retirement plan.

  for those who are interested in "actually doing something" in the fight against the wts, other than posting to dbs, here is a recent us court opinion which does a good job of explaining that us homeowners have the legal right to forbid solicitors (including jws) from entering their private property, including explaining all the constitutional and legal issues.

  although this case deals with an newspaper/advertising distributor, jws and "freedom of religion" are also addressed by this lengthy opinion.

  It would be wonderful if everyone did that. Just think. All that wasted man power - knocking on doors. JW's could work at their regular jobs over-time and contribute that money to the world wide work in other countries where people are still receptive. That would speed up the work. American witnesses would then be the financial sponsors of intense missionary work.

  They might even buy TV time and produce slick programs with a free offer for home bible study.

  GIVE IT UP. IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE

  an equally influential religion has been islam, and maybe even more so.

  JW's wrote a pretty good book on the worlds religions about 12 years ago. It is formatted with questions at the bottom of each page like most of their study books.

  We have never studied that book. Never could figure out why?

  Perhaps it would create doubts about the veracity of the Bible and the Christian religion. Maybe a little too open minded.

  Metatron:

  JW's are simply the messengers. Making sure that people are warned is NOT exploitation. Even the Bible indicates that Jehovah doesn't delight in the destruction of the wicked. The buoy that lifts the spirits of Christians amidst turmoil is the prospect of deliverance.

  However, I disagree that Armageddon means eternal destruction. That would be as unjust and out of harmony with God's love as eternal hell-fire. The only "thing" thrown into Gehenna at Armageddon is the Wild Beast and False Prophet. Symbols are the only thing destroyed forever at Armageddon.

  Without divine (or some other extra-terrestial) intervention 100% of the people on this planet will surely die leaving the playing field for another attempt by evolution.

  Is the idea that a solution that results in the survival of 1% of the earths population "bad"? Not if the alternative is 0%. And that's the direction the world is heading.

  You continue to wear the blinders of technology as the best hope. Yes technology has prolonged life. But what will be your opinion when you and your loved ones are at the final stage of an antrhax infection. Three days of bleeding lung and intestinal membranes. That's the next step for terrorists. They DO have the stuff. They WILL use it.

  Part of JW's worship is a message of divine intervention. I listened to the words of the interfaith services in Washington. The hope they hold out is that everyone alive today will die and get on the heaven express. The only religion that talks about a material paradise on Earth is JW's.

  Lilacs:

  The idea that Babylon the Great is a religious entity is a left-over from the protestant reformation. Early Christians no doubt thought of Rome as Babylon the Great and there are a lot comparisons that work. The Roman Catholic Church was the next logical target.

  Russell and JW's have had many interpretations of Babylon the Great.
  Commercial world, the entire worldly system, Catholic Church and finally ALL religions.

  I suggest you click on the GLOBE/ARROW and check out my web information. I've had over 2,000 hits on the site and no one has tried to give a rebuttal to my arguments against Babylon The GReat being identified as the World Empire of False Religion.

  LOGICAL:

  I can understand that in YOUR life the JW's loom as a large figure but on a GLOBAL level its very hard to believe that:

  Rev. 18:3 "The traveling merchants of the earth became rich due to JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES shameless luxury"

  or

  Rev. 18:19 "Too bad,too bad the great city, in which all those having boats at sea became rich by reason of JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES costliness"

  or

  Rev. 18:23 "JEHOVAH's WITNESSES traveling merchants were the top ranking men of earth."
