Responsibility is independent of free-will. If you do things that are illegal - society will hold you responsible. My dog doesn't have free-will but if he starts biting people his freedom will be limited to the length of his chain.

JW's Paradise and Determinist Philosophy
by mindfield init occured to me, during a philosophy course, that the deterministic philosophy strongly resembles the utopian paradise the jw's so strongly hope for.
first off, what is the deterministic philosophy?
you've got your utopia... your jw paradise.

Found this on their official website
by SpiceItUp inhttps://watch001.securesites.com/library/g/1993/10/8a/article_02.htm .
tragically, adult society often unwittingly collaborates with child abusers.
by refusing to be aware of this danger, by fostering a hush-hush attitude about it, by believing oft-repeated myths.

It is not up to the Watchtower to give a report on the number of sexual abuse cases that were handled properly. That is no ones business.
If a person feels that their case was not handled properly they ought to seek all remedies available to them.
Silent Lambs is an enemy of the Watchtower and it is appropriate for the Watchtower to treat them as such. The Watchtower certainly appear ready for the long haul on this issue. They have shifted their assets to minimize financial hits. They have made an organizational statement concerning their policy. The vast majority of JW's feel safe in their brotherhood.
The Watchtower isn't going to dance to Bill Bowens tune. The public only has a limited interest in JW's. They are much more interested in the Catholic Church. Dateline was a one-trick pony. If Dateline did an ongoing series on JW's they would lose their share of the audience.

Freedom is tied to the options that are available to you. A lot of what is described as freedom depends on how much money you have. Freedom of thought is enhanced by education. You can't think about things you don't "know". Free will is another matter altogether. I don't believe in Free-will. That's why I don't believe in original sin OR capital punishment.

JWs at my door....return visit tomorrow
by mpatrick ini just had two nice jw women knock on my door...i invited them in and listened to their brief presentation and accepted the watchtower and awake.
they couldn't stay(had a bible study they had to go on)so they said they will be back tomorrow...i am playing the naive daughter of jw parents of whom i have had debates with in regards to jw doctrines...that way i don't seem to be totally oblivious to their teachings, yet not an "evil apostate"!.
i was taken off guard, so i am glad they are coming back....any suggestions on how to approach these two women without blowing my cover?

Quit playing games. If you don't want to be a Jehovah's Witness quit waisting their time. If you think you are going to alter their thinking good luck.

Favorite Music Video?
by mindfield inhere's another fun poll... what's your favorite music video, in terms of visuals, audio, heck, in terms of whatever you want!
i'll start off... right now, my favorite music video is "murder on the dancefloor" by sophie ellios bextor (or something like that).
the whole mood of the video is just hilarious, and the way it syncs up with the song is great as well.

Where does the money go?
by ozziepost inhere is a serious question, asked seriously, where does all the cash that the watch tower receives, end up?.
we take it for granted that much of their income is used to run the various headquarters and branch office buildings, including the materials used in printing their publications.
travel costs would account for a sizable amount of expenditure.

Ozzie:
Since you no longer claim to be a JW and can immerse yourself in this world - why don't you concern yourself with where TAX money goes. Religion accounts for only 3% of the GNP at most. If you give money to JW's then you ought to be concerned. You don't. So quit your bitching.

The Age of Miracles And Dateline

of two blind men who received the experimental silicon.
chip in one eye each to attempt to restore sight.. one man gained only a little but the other could now.

You persist with your "fools" view of a better world. It is a paradise for the rich. The prospects you describe come at a price that billions now living will never be able to have. At least when humans lived without modern day cures and remedies there were only a couple hundred million people on earth. We have made it possible for billions to watch with hunger gnawing their empty guts as the fortunate few drink the scientific concoctions that will alegedly bring everlasting life.
How pathetic. A false "religious" hope is better than NO hope at all - which is what you keep announcing.

Shaking Hands with Death - Part 3
by Amazing inshaking hands with death part 3: .
the angioplasty begins: the cardiologist arrived from the other hospital, and started telling everyone what he needed.
more medical staff showed up soon after, and the room was insane ... just like on tv ... short tempers demanding this or that device or assistance, people yelling out my vital readings, and i got a brief glance of the operating room door with people in green outfits, head caps, and face masks bopping in and out.

Amazing: Glad to hear you made it. THIS life IS all there IS. (I have not yet been persuaded otherwise). Enjoy another day.
Pain transcends fear? No. Pain is a partner to fear - probably the senior partner.
E-Mail me your address if you feel like it. I plan to be in the Chicago area shortly.

Mr. Bill:
Don't you think you are waisting time with petty rangling. The JW rank and file don't even know who you are even after your 15 minutes of fame.
The HQ sent out a letter explaining their policy on child abuse. It has been well received as are ALL decisions from the GB.
People like you CRAVE attention. Unfortunately you've reached your peak and its down-hill from here.

The Adventures of 'Intercontinental' Man
By Dana MilbankPresident Bush proposed a novel plan for dealing with Russia's old nuclear weapons. He said industrialized countries would pay $20 billion "to help Russia SECURITIZE the dismantled
nuclear warheads."...Presumably he did not mean the literal definition of "securitize," which is to turn a commodity into a stock that can be traded
-- Russian nukes on the Chicago Board of Trade....At the U.S. ambassador's home in Moscow, he weighed in on an issue
involving the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson wrote about "inalienable" rights. Linguists have suggested that "unalienable" is the proper word. Bush offered a third possibility: "UN-INALIENABLE RIGHTS."Arriving for a caviar dinner at Russian President Vladimir Putin's
country residence, Bush viewed the immaculate grounds and told his host: "Nice of you to mow the grass for us." ...At the French president's palace, he noted that Jacques Chirac is "always saying that the food here is fantastic."
