I would tell a surgeon that I don't want blood. That way they will be more careful. My wife knows that I would take it if my life were threatened.

Christians CAN eat blood.
by proplog2 inthere is no need to address all the knotty pharasaical arguments used by the watchtower to defend their blood policy.
mark got the point jesus was making in the 7th chapter of mark.
"thus he declared all foods clean".

Verse 21 of Acts 15 explains the reason for the command to abstain from blood. Abstain from blood BECAUSE there are synagogues all over the world where people follow Moses and have had their conscience sensitized to eating only Kosher foods. That would be the least that Gentile Christians could do to accommodate their Jewish brothers. It would ease the fellowship between Jews and Gentiles. So much fellowship involves sharing meals together etc. If a Gentile and a Jew were in "field service" together preaching in public places and it was time to have lunch it would be wrong for a Gentile to buy some blood sausage and start gnawing away in front of his Jewish brother. Likewise, temples made money selling meat that had been offered to idols. A Christian could partake of that food but it would be wrong to do so in front of a newly converted Gentile who's weak conscience might be offended.
Notice: there is no scripture that says those who eat blood will not inherit the kingdom of heavens. Acts 15:21 suggested no congregational action for those who would fail to abstain from the listed food items. The Watchtower article comes to the false conclusion that because "FORNICATION" is forbidden in the same verse as these dietary restrictions that they all carry the same sinful weight. Just because several things are associated in the same context doesn't mean that they are all equal. If that were true then The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are equal by virtue of their being listed together. Fornication was thrown in because that was a serious problem in Gentile lands.
They (Watchtower) don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to this God dishonoring deadly policy.

The UFO issue is approaching official acceptance
by metatron insometime ago, the government of france came closest, of any nation on earth, to official recognition of ufo reality.. they commissioned a study ( the "cometa report") by their best military and scientific people and concluded that.
the extraterrestrial explanation is the most likely.
they also complained that the us seemed to be holding the subject back.. some belgian/nato types had very vocal complaints, years back, about the "black triangle" incident being ignored,.

I went from a curiosity about UFO's to a belief in UFO's after experiencing it first hand. (I heard the sound - but family members actually saw it).
The second coming is most likely the mother ship.
I also suspect that they are not from a distant planet but rather from a parallel "earth" (the Quantum Copenhagen Solution.) They don't have to travel distance. They merely make a dimensional jump. That's why space travel is such a waste of resources. Spatially we are isolated.
These are material beings quite a bit like us. Just made different choices (left instead of right).
They won't interfere until we threaten our own success with anhilation.

El Blanko:
Mark understood Jesus' words to mean that the dietary restrictions are finished. Some might argue that blood wasn't considered food by the Israelites. That would be easy almost obvious to refute. But never underestimate the twists and turns people can go through to defend doctrines that are central to their faith.
Why don't JW's include feet washing as part of the memorial celebration since Jesus commanded (not suggested) his disciples to do that. The Watchtower would say "Oh, that was a symbolic act!". They would ignore the fact that the whole "memorial" is a symbolic act.
My point is that the scripture at Mark is a clear contradiction of the way they interpret Acts 15. Let the scriptures battle it out.

Leoaia:
Thanks for pointing that out. The policy should then be you can eat blood but you can't transfuse blood. Of course this means they will have to bring back that great idea that when the Bible speaks about the heart it IS the literal heart that beats in your chest not some "symbolic" heart.

"Thus he declared all foods clean"
Mark 7:18
So he said to them: "Are you also without perception like them? Are you not aware that NOTHING (that includes blood) from outside that passes into a man can defile him, since it passes, not into his heart, but into his intestines, and it passes out into the sewer? Thus he declared all foods clean."
The new covenant supercedes any other covenant - including the Noachian covenant.
If they want to say that transfusions are "eating" - let them. You can eat blood, you can transfuse blood, you can use it for whatever. The Mosaic Law is finished. Just don't flaunt it in front of someone you know has a weak conscience.

Had the US set out to actually fight the war in Vietnam like a real war...it would have been over VERY quickly.
True. But then we would have faced the impossible job of occupying Vietnam.
The US won the war in Iraq. That's the easy part.
The Chechens have told Russia that they only occupy the ground under their feet. They continue to take losses after 4 years.

Bush will be re-elected IF...
IF there is an election.
We live in strange times.
Bush has the right views and temperament to make the whole world hate the USA.
I think that is necessary to bring it all to a finish.

Why weren't (aren't) we appalled that God required a human sacrifice?
by True North inapologists for the genocidal behavior written of in the old testament have often stated that its victims simply got what they deserved, and that they deserved it in part because their unclean religious practices included human sacrifice, even the sacrifice of their own children.
christians have long prided themselves in comparison to many pagan religions in that christian religious practice has never included human sacrifice and that christian principles would make one abhor such practices.
so why did we (do we) so readily accept the concept that the christian god would require a human sacrifice -- of his own son, yet -- before he would allow himself to be propitiated?

It is almost a necessity for the founder of a religion to become a martyr. If he doesn't get killed early in the process he makes too many human errors, gets involved in power struggles, gets people mad at him, marries a woman and has stupid kids.
Three and a half years is about as long as you can go without things falling apart.

How do they know?
by desib77 inthis kind of goes along with all of the posts recently about the memorial.
when my mother explained the annointed to me when i was young i asked how someone would know if they were part of the annointed.
she told me, "they just know.

The Watchtower practically suggests that anyone who claims to be annointed at this particular point in time is certifiably insane. It's one thing to believe you are going to heaven when everyone around you believes that. But when you have to use introspection to search out some internal voice telling you "you're special" you have a recipe made for selecting the "crazies".
What is really scarry is that the "new" members of the Governing Body are all "latter date saints". In other words they all had a little voice inside of them confirm that they are "special" - or should we say "nut cases".
