If the King of the North / King of the South really applies to our day there is only one possibility.
Russia is the King of the North
No empire North of Russia
It still has nuclear weapons targeted toward the USA. The USA still has Russia in its cross hairs.
They are still rivals. Russia is allies with the nations that Bush calls the axis of evil.
The USA is pushing against Russia in the Caucasus region and promoting color revolutions.
The original deal was that the Soviet Union would allow East & West Germany to re-unite but that NATO would not push into the former sphere of the Soviet Union. The USA has not kept its word. Gorbachev was an idiot for giving so much up without any binding written agreement.
If you have any doubt about the fact that the US and Russia are still pushing each other do a google news search on relations between the countries of Georgia and Russia. Most Americans are oblivious to what is going on there.
According to Daniel Russia finally gets tired of this and attacks the King of the South.
What is puzzling is why the Watchtower can't figure this out.
Maybe it was in the interest of the Watchtower to quit talking about Russia as the King of the North so they could build up membership there. It would have made Russia even angrier if they were bombarded with printed material that identified them as the King of the North that would eventually be destroyed by the invisible hand of Jehovah.

in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?
there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..

I heard a close relative of mine discussing the 1975 situation with Karl Klein. This was after 1975 when the number of publishers went into negative numbers. Karl Klein said that the members of the governing body were teasing Fred Franz about 1975 earlier in the year 1975 and his answer was "it isn't fall yet!"
They left a few saving clauses in their 1975 pronouncements. Maybe in their publications they allowed themselves some wiggle room but the whole thrust of the organization from 1966 onward was that something big-significant was going to happen in 1975. They weren't clear whether the great tribulation was going to start or if it would be over by then.
The whole thing was a debacle. It was not the figment of the members imaginations even though that's what the Watchtower would like to have everyone believe.

Since Greg makes the comment that he only believes what can be DEFENDED Greg needs to try to defend the Bible. He needs to defend the idea of a supreme being. Who cares how closely a religion adheres to its "book". I am sure there are Moslems who are excellent witnesses to Allah and follow the Koran accurately.
His defending the JW "defense" on blood is NO DEFENSE at all it's just a restatement of this fallacious doctrine.

New special campaign....a few things that most don't see....
by RedPill2006 inok. we have that "special" campaign ahead.....i still don't know how i will avoid participating....my family is all excited and will put the pressure on.....i might get my 50 tracts and toss them somewhere......it will look suspicious that i finished after an hour and "placed" 50 pcs in a territory that is closed to jw.....anyway.
here a few thoughts that crossed my mind:.
everybody at my hall is all excited about this special tract and i can't get the nice conversations i usually have with a few going, because of the excitement.

This subject is old and worn out. It is probably good for theists to get into one of these arguments so they can learn that they don't have much basis for their faith. Other forums have specialized in this on-going argument. There are also thousands of books on the subject. One book I like is
"Atheist Debaters Handbook" short but powerful.
The value of these discussions in the context of JW thinking is that it provides me with a view of the level of intellectual maturity of the participants.

The Bible God is supposed to be all-powerful, all-knowing etc. It is impossible for a human to be able to conclude that a particular entity is actually all-powerful or all- knowing. You never know if the entity is telling the truth or not. How do you know that a particular demonstration of "power" is infinite? A being may know a lot but how do you determine with a finite mind that a particular being knows "everything".
You never know when a stronger and smarter being will come along.
The whole idea of such a god is incoherent.
