We are animals. Sex is something all animals do. Marriage is an invention of humans and has many forms. Marriage is an arrangement that only has validity in tribal or group context. The Bible certainly isn't the textbook for monogamy. Marriage has been good for civilization because it allows people to opt out of the time and energy consuming routine of continuous mate seeking.

Why do you support having sex out of marriage?
by free2beme ini work with a lot of people who are very sexually active.
which should mean they are real happy, right?
after all, isn't sex the best feeling in the world and that is why we have such a strong internal sex drive.

IDENTITY=Behavior There are no CAUSELESS crimes or innocent evils
by Terry inwe often hear it said: love the sinner, but; hate the sin.. we try and reform the child molester.
we put career criminals through rehabiliation.
we let the drunk driver off with a fine and a warning over and over until an innocent family is wiped out.. why separate the deed from the doer?

Terry: do you think evil people ought to be killed?
I'm sure you have seen the new book "The Lucifer Effect" Phillip Zimbardo

The Scientific Reasonableness Of Noah's Ark Demonstrated
by FireNBandits infinally, someone in holland (where floods weigh heavily on the collective subconscious) has built a 1/5 scale model of noah's ark.
this proves that noah built the original ark.
if noah hadn't built the original ark, how could someone build a 1/5 scale model of it?

Drew;
I believe the JW's give their members a culture. The mormons have the myth of the lost Israelites. JW's teach that there have been members of the 144,000 on earth in every generation since Jesus left. I am a 3rd generation JW (grandparents go back to early 1900's). I have heard experiences from family members about mobs threatening to burn down their houses. There are pictures in the family album of my mother with a sign in front of a church saying Religion is A Snare and A Racket. etc. etc. All you need for a culture is a group of people with a shared history. All you need for a shared history is time.

JW's are not the only ones that believe in the existence of demons.
In fact it is Christian to believe in demonic possession since Christ performed exorcisms.
They don't acknowledge that the Demons that possess epileptics seem to have an aversion for the drug Dilantin.

America's Universities? Do you mean some USA universities?
Quit worrying about a few intellectuals. The real problem is with the 90% that think the Bible is the word of God. They are the ones that come up with all the reasons to kill people.

ARE YOU PSYCHIC..........................AND WHAT DID YOU THINK AS A JW ?
by vitty ini think all people can communicate at a higher level for eg how many can times do you and your partner think of the same thing at the same time?
or you can be thinking of a person and they ring you?.
but if you really feel that you are psychic or that you communicate with "dead people" how did you cope with it when you were a witness?.

Terry:
You and I are psychic! We were reading each others minds.
The problem with JW thinking on this is that they view "demonic" explanations as liberation from superstition. How many times have you seen articles on the paranormal with the title "Breaking free from Superstition". "Oh you thought ghosts were spirits of the departed? No, they are really billion year old murderous super powerful evil invisible entities bent on destroying all of humanity and taking over your body "
OK. Now I feel better.

Intuition is powerful. Our minds evolved to jump to very accurate conclusions based a very little information. Our minds are not naturally set up to handle logic and statistical mathematics.
Then there are archetypes. These are the few things that we habitually think about. Our minds are mostly looking for obstacles and dangers. We have evolved pretty good detectors for the things that bring us pleasure - sex, food etc. Dangers have to be projected and rehearsed. That's primarily what our thinking is - scenarios for danger. In word association tests the first word that usually comes to mind is its opposite. So, when you think of someone you love and is near and dear to your heart your mind automatically pokes around with the possibility of losing that person. These ideas are pushed into the background during the daily hustle and bustle but at night they emerge in our dreams. We dream of younger people dying in accidents and older people dying of heart attacks.
There are many other plots that are common subjects in our imaginations. Falling in love. Losing something or someone. Finding something. Unusual success. Extreme embarassment - etc.
We have these dreams all the time and forget about them. But if one of these frequent situations pairs up with a dream we think we are psychic.
This is probably an evolutionary trick to keep us focused on the negative possibilities. Survival is more a matter of avoiding the bad than obtaining the good. Religion emerges as a buffer for the reality that life isn't much fun.

A bit of Rutherford info
by Lady Lee inyou just never know what you might find out when you look at the small print.. i have seen many references to the judge's drinking habits - most often to excess.. the us prohibition started in 1920 and continued through to 1933. life must have been miserable for alcoholics and pushed many to create their own booze.
prohibition in the united states (1920-1933) was the era during which the united states constitution outlawed the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages.

Jehovah's Witnesses will say that the Devil uses a mimic organization like the Mormons to confuse people.
I say it's a pretty good example of parallel cultural evolution.
It seems the same authoritarian lame brains float to the top of all these organizations. They all speak like they are the last word. I am so sick of these types.
Any JW could feel "culturally at home in the Mormon Church.
And how can you judge Mormons. They are very sincere and dedicated.
This is also why JW's never study the excellent book they printed a few years back - Mankind's Search for God.
The line of argumentation against the Koran, Book of Mormon etc. can be used against the Bible.
I didn't see the whole program but it was chilling.
