Worth Watching - And a JW Twist!
by Joe Grundy inabout the only (uk) tv show i find worth watching is 'new tricks' - a drama series about three retired detectives re-employed to work on old cold-cases.
(it probably resonates with me because i am an old retired detective and can identify with each of the three in different ways).. .
i have just watched an episode with a jw twist and i can thoroughly recommend it.. .

Hi Michelle, Lovely to see you here. Undecover's advice is sound.
I was 9 years old when my mother dragged me and bros&sisters into the organisation. That was in the late 1960s. I'm the only one who left, aged 20. Now I'm in my 50s. Some s**t's gone down in the meantime I can tell you. My mother sounds a lot like yours. Don't expect any reply other than 'How dare you, you apostate, you!'
I've come to realise how frightened my mother is; things that happened to her as a child. She's never gotten over it. The WTSociety has provided her as an adult with the protection she wanted. Wonder what the big fear is inside your mum from her young days that convinced her to convert?
Someone said earlier they send family photos - great idea. It sends a warm message of how happy you are, plus how kind and considerate you are - by contrast to them.
But you're right in saying you don't expect anything in return.
Best wishes from Flossycat. Melbourne, Australia.

Hi S2S. What an inspirational story. You've been through quite a dramatic turn of events, and come through so strong. Congratulations. And best wishes on your journey.
And welcome.

Losing the battle
by irondork inlove endures all things, huh?
i think the boys at watchtower hq found a way around that rule.
they have learned how to destroy the natural affection of those doing the shunning and those being shunned.. .

Hi Irondork, Resentment and anger can eat us up. Over the years, for one thing or another I've allowed it, too. Being angry has its place and can do us good - for a while. It took me a long time to realise that over the longer term it's wasted energy.
Try to remember - you are the free one - you can rise above their petty, childish games. They're spiritual retards in mental and emotional chains, being told what they can do, what they can't do - and what they must do. It took me a long time before I came to feel sorry for them.
Time to move on in your life and do the things you love to do, and meet new, better friends.
Best wishes from Flossycat.

Hi Stephanie,
I joined the forum only a coupla months ago, but have been out of the WTS for 30+ years. I'm 53, but it took many years of rebellion and guilt tripping till someone DEPROGRAMMED ME! Yep - so moronic. These days I'm agnostic.
Glad you've made such great strides in such a relatively short time. Congratulations.
Best wishes from Flossycat. Melbourne, Australia.

Jeez, so many surnames I've forgotten. Malcolm Hopper (?) Lorraine Perston. A German girl, Magda, whose husband was disfellowshipped. A Hungarian girl, Gillian. The Obermeyers, (not sure about the spelling - Austrian.) Natalie & David Gilbey (Sunshine). I knew some of these quite well, and really liked them.

Hi Smiddy. I was in the Elsternwick congo from 1977-1979. Knew some in the St Kilda congo as well then. Apparently Elsternwick went through a break-down period some time after that - half the congo left the org or something. I know one of the elders who left/got disfellowshipped.

After seeing my (JW) mother yesterday, I feel old and tired
ps it was at a relative's Catholic Mass funeral - and she attended. My, how the JWs have changed their stance since I was a JW in the 1970s. We were too scared to enter any church. More flip-flopping.

I second Black Sheep's motion: get the book from the library 'Teach Your Children How To Think.'
And for you, if you haven't already, get Steven Hassan's book on combatting Cult Mind Control.
