New World Translation Assaults on Language and Phrases that Always Wigged Me Out!
by DarioKehl ini listened to the august 4th episode of the healingxjws podcast where they interviewed a former jw circuit overseer.
he shared many great examples of how original meanings (especially poetry) were lost in this terrible translation.
it's worth listening to.

For those in any doubt that the Society is at war with Facebook...
by cedars in...take a look at this from page 29 of the latest october 2012 awake!.
the gloves are now well-and-truly off.
referring to facebook as a "social networking website" clearly isn't working.. the society now feels compelled to start being more specific about which websites it doesn't want you to visit!.

I think for the individual, common sense should rule whether or not to post something to a public forum like FB. Unfortunately, common sense seems to be an extinct specie nowadays.

District Convention Points Saturday 21-07-2012 New Light? Governing Body Is Our Mother?
by Bubblegum Apotheosis ini have been trying to wrap my head around the talk that introduced the slave as our mother?
the brothers at bethel are worried that we are not treating our spiritual mother with respect.
jehovah is our father, the faithful slave (the governing body) is our spiritual mammy.

Now that's funny... Drinking brandy killed my useless brain cells, GB, FDS, WTBTS claiming to be the spiritual Mother??? For one thing, the Bible or lieBle as WTWizard would say doesn't say anything about "Mother"... To think that they have copied the RC magisterium doctrine is plain silly and stupid. Mother church??? My foot.... No wonder WTWizard denigrates both the Bible and Christianity.... WTBTS put paid to being the very antithesis of what a Christian is reallyl supposed to be...

Cedars' "Makeweight" Scenario
by What Now? incedars' "makeweight" scenario posed as a question:.
can you show me one scripture that supports the idea that the holy spirit would deliberately feed god's servants untrue information or a flawed understanding of scripture as a "makeweight" until actual truth would be revealed at a later date?
is there a biblical principle that justifies jehovah dealing with his servants in such a way?.

That's funny, using Jacob and Esau as an example that God approved the use of deceit or incorrect information. Going back to the birth of Issac's twins, God have already made mention that the older brother will serve the younger (Gen 25:23).
And the LORD said unto her, "Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.
Therefore there is no need for Jacob to use deceit (he used it twice) to get the birthright of the firstborn and the blessing of Issac , however he did it anyway, because he and his mother did not believe that promise. Here's what WT forgets to mention, the consequences of Jacob's deceit (Gen 27:41-44). Jacob was forced to flee for his life, then he slaved for Laban 14 years, experienced deceit practiced on him by his own uncle. He experienced heartbreak when he thought Joseph had died, his own sons lied to him. God did bless Jacob in the end, but not because He approved of the deceit, but that Jacob repented of his sins. Did WT repent after disseminating false truths/prophecies?

Was the Verdict of the Candace Conti lawsuit a Win-Win for the WTS?
by rip van winkle inwhy did the wts not try to settle this lawsuit before going to trial as they had so many times previously?
was it presumptiousness on the part of the society's lawyers and gb?
had this been settled it would have hardly caused a whimper.. it got me to thinking that although the verdict of $28 million is unheard of, it may actually further the wts to make their claims that they are the only true religion.. reason being- if the monetary award is overturned then they will say it was jehovahs will.

Allow me to put my 2 cents here. First of all, clergy-penitent privileges is similar to attorney-client privileges. Under certain conditions, attorney-client privileges are to be suspended/ rendered moot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attorney%E2%80%93client_privilege. In the same way, clergy-penitent privileges are rendered moot, if such is used to conceal/further a crime. Child abuse and molestation is a crime both in the eyes of state and of God. Covering it up so that God's name will not be in reproach is utter nonsense as it will imply that God is a willing accomplice in the crime.

Ultimately it is the child who should stop the abuse according to the GB!
by life is to short inon page 171 of the "learn from the great teacher" book published in 2003 it shows a picture of a very cute little girl holding a ragged ann doll.
she is sitting on a chair in her bedroom with her hand out toward a man that is coming toward her.. the paragraphs say "so just as jesus needed protection, you also need to be protected from grown-ups-and even from other children-who may try to have sex with you.
usually, these people will pretend to be your friends.

In the first place, the child is already being abused even before they get to read/understand that sort of idiotic article. More often than not, the child is already on a slippery slope to being a suppressed, frightened, fearful kid. How do can we possibly expect them to voice out their objections when in reality, the more the child objects, the higher the probabilty the child will get more abused. It is the responsbility of ANY adult to take note of the possible abuse of the child, and bring it to the attention to the proper secular authorities and the congregation.

Mosaic Law - Can anyone help to explain
by Bells ini'm hoping someone can shed a little light in regards to the witnesses stance around mosaic law?.
as i understand it, they don't follow the law, however do take some principles from it.. .
so - do they think that the mosaic law came directly from god?

@TD Thanks for the elucidation. Jesus was probably against those hardline Pharisees and Sadducees who obeys the letter of the law but not the spirit of the law.

No letterhead means Plausible deniability.... but it's already submitted as court evidence by the defense, so either they are perjuring themselves or it's true. Then they can tell their R&F that it is Theocratic warfare.

@TD Christians never seem to get tired of denigrating the Oral Law ...and yet, Jesus of the Bible accepted it as binding on multiple occasions (Matthew 12:5; 24:20; 23:16)
I beg to disagree. Jesus accepts the Torah(Written Law) as binding. Remember He said that He came to fulfill the Law. What Jesus was against was the myriad of rules and regulations that the Pharisees and Sadducees imposed ON TOP of the Torah (Oral Law or the Talmud). ref. http://www.jewfaq.org/torah.htm
Matt 12:5 - keyword "read".

mP, NC have explained Mosaic Law pretty well. Allow me to add my 2 cents.
Mosaic Law is essentially a covenant or binding contract between the nation Israel and God. Its provisions were to separate or essentially differentiate Israel from the other nations at that time, a special people who were to be a light to the nations. A role which Israel has spectacularly failed to fulfill. Essentially the Mosaic Law wasn't as much as it was designed to punish people, but instead it serves as a guidepost to show how hard it is to reach God's standards.
In Jesus' time, the Mosaic Law have already evolved into a huge mess of convoluted legalistic interpretations, rules and regulations. Jesus indicted them in Mark 7, saying the following:
6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
14 And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:
15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
Which is why Jesus said in Matt 11:28-30 that He offers respite from the onerous burden of the Mosaic Law.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Note: Notice the bolded verses. This indictes the blood doctrine that WT has been shoving down the throats of the R&F.
