it's amazing to me how many of the exjws no longer believe in god.
i know some of you have many reasons to believe in what you do now.
but this is a big testimony to what the wts does to people's concept of god.
Compared to most religions Witnesses are already practically Atheists. They've managed to rid themselves of several myths held by Christianity (Trinity, Hell, inmortal soul). To remain a Witness one must perform a balancing act. They must not continuing with the reasoning that lead them to discard these myths nor can they accept these myths again as valid.
I'm not at all surprised that a high percentage of ex-JWs become Atheists.

I've always felt that the religion promoted by the WatchTower Society is so void of spirituality that most ex-Witnesses have a hard time relating the more dynamic experience offered by mainstream Christianity.
Witnesses are closer in spirituality to Atheist than they are to Christians.
The WatchTower has worked hard over the years to get rid of any myth or mystery in their religion. No eternal soul, no Trinity, no Hell, no emotion, it's no wonder ex-JWs can't relate to Christianity.
The WatchTower did a good job of de-programming me of religious beliefs.

My choice of the word effect had the desired affect, so it was the correct word for the situation. If you go back and read between the lines you may see the error of you're weighs.

i'm a long time lurking of this site(2 years) and a first time poster.
to provide a little background of myself i was not raised as a witness but started studying when i was 19 and got baptized at age 21. a few months after i was baptized i left due to the constant worship of the faithful and discreet slave and the lack of emphasis on christ.
for reasons i'm not sure about yet i decided to attend the district convention last week.

The average person would probably answer that they are above average in some manner. So, if I answer that I'm average, then I am not responding with an average answer, but if I answer that I'm above average in some respect, then I'm really just average.

I can see the possibility that Racial Issues could change for the worse. Like several of our last few presidents, there will be a large majority of people that will be very displeased with his performance and feel that he was a terrible choice. Depending on several issues, the situation could become very divisive with a much greater chance of a split along racial lines. But, who really knows. If I could predict the future, I would start my own cult.
