Okay, I guess it makes more sense to assume that his hand is on backwards and he walks around with his face covered up. His face being covered also explains why he is not facing the subject of the painting (Lazarus) like almost everyone else, but starring (if you can stare with your face covered) off in to nowhere.
The idea that there is some hidden message is a lot more exciting then just attributing these anomalies to poor artistry.

The man on the right covered from head to toe is standing with his back facing us. He is leaning over talking to the man to his right as he points at Lazarus. Notice that his left foot is pointing in the same direction as the man's foot standing next to him. There is nothing wrong with the position of any of his hands if viewed in this manner.
As far as finding meaning in the details of the account as it is found in the Bible, I find your observations interesting, but believe that many of the inconsistencies are due to the fact that the account is fabricated.

it's amazing to me how many of the exjws no longer believe in god.
i know some of you have many reasons to believe in what you do now.
but this is a big testimony to what the wts does to people's concept of god.
Compared to most religions Witnesses are already practically Atheists. They've managed to rid themselves of several myths held by Christianity (Trinity, Hell, inmortal soul). To remain a Witness one must perform a balancing act. They must not continuing with the reasoning that lead them to discard these myths nor can they accept these myths again as valid.
I'm not at all surprised that a high percentage of ex-JWs become Atheists.

I've always felt that the religion promoted by the WatchTower Society is so void of spirituality that most ex-Witnesses have a hard time relating the more dynamic experience offered by mainstream Christianity.
Witnesses are closer in spirituality to Atheist than they are to Christians.
The WatchTower has worked hard over the years to get rid of any myth or mystery in their religion. No eternal soul, no Trinity, no Hell, no emotion, it's no wonder ex-JWs can't relate to Christianity.
The WatchTower did a good job of de-programming me of religious beliefs.

One phrase that I've heard often is: "I have no ideal" instead of "I have no idea".

My choice of the word effect had the desired affect, so it was the correct word for the situation. If you go back and read between the lines you may see the error of you're weighs.

i'm a long time lurking of this site(2 years) and a first time poster.
to provide a little background of myself i was not raised as a witness but started studying when i was 19 and got baptized at age 21. a few months after i was baptized i left due to the constant worship of the faithful and discreet slave and the lack of emphasis on christ.
for reasons i'm not sure about yet i decided to attend the district convention last week.
