i'm a long time lurking of this site(2 years) and a first time poster.
to provide a little background of myself i was not raised as a witness but started studying when i was 19 and got baptized at age 21. a few months after i was baptized i left due to the constant worship of the faithful and discreet slave and the lack of emphasis on christ.
for reasons i'm not sure about yet i decided to attend the district convention last week.
There's something wrong with Atheist?
I'll have to quit hanging around my 3 year old granddaughter if that's the case.

The average person would probably answer that they are above average in some manner. So, if I answer that I'm average, then I am not responding with an average answer, but if I answer that I'm above average in some respect, then I'm really just average.

do you think that this country will change for the better now that we've elected a new president?
I can see the possibility that Racial Issues could change for the worse. Like several of our last few presidents, there will be a large majority of people that will be very displeased with his performance and feel that he was a terrible choice. Depending on several issues, the situation could become very divisive with a much greater chance of a split along racial lines. But, who really knows. If I could predict the future, I would start my own cult.

if your religion cried wolf every new generation and they've been doing that since the 19th century!!!!
!, how could you possibly believe anything that's said?.
"the end" was supposed to come actually in 1799, i believe and the same core group still maintain it'll be here.. are jehovah's witnesses that "dumb"?
In the film mentioned by leavingwt above "Strong City End of the World Cult Movie", I found the following comment by the narrator very revealing:
"I finally understood why so many can't wait for the end of the world and the bodily ascent to heaven that Michael had promised. The last seven years has left many broken. Crushed by what Michael has put them through."
Like Witnesses, it seems that the members of this cult act like they're the happiest people on earth, but the reality is that they are extremely distressed by their situation and can't wait for the promised end.

i remember when i first left i wanted to tell every one i knew how bad/wrong/indoctrinated the jws were.
i was angry at having been deceived for so many years.
now they are just like every other religion if you get to the core of it.
Yes.
And I justify this by reasoning that their doctrines concerning blood puts each of them at risk of dying unnecessarily for a publishing company.

the local hall just gave a local needs talk on not circulating losch's talk that's been here on the internet as well as in a number of witness hands.
evidently quite a few jws are listening to the tape, making copies and letting everyone hear it.
well, the "faithful & discreet slave" has said not to do this any longer.
Here are the captions. It sounds like the original is in Italian. It would probably be better if the someone could transcribe the original also.

p.s. There are a few spelling mistakes in the text. I didn't know whether to correct them or not, so I just left them.
Going to college or not may be a reflexion of your faith, or lack of your faith, and it may indicate how present the imminence of the Great Tribulation is in your mind. What is undoubtable is that the time left is reduced as Paul said in 1 Corinthians 7:29.
If you are currently going to college, why don't you meditate in prayer on the possibility of dropping out and doing something better?
But for us, who scrutinize the meaning of world events in the light of Bible prophecy, there are more worthy reasons for not putting a worldy career first in our lives. We could liken ourselves to someone who sees a building with a sign that reads: "This company is running out of business". Would you apply for a job there? Of course not. And if we were working for such a company, we would wisely look for a job elsewhere. Well, on all the institutions of this world lies a sing reading 'imminent liquidation'. The end is near. Yes, the Bible assures us that the world is passing away. Therefore; we will be wise and will not imitate those who are an integral part of it.
Now you have listened to the advice. What will you do now? Some advocate going to college by citing the example of some elders children who are attending college or that did so [in the past]. We are not able, nor willing, to tell you what you should do. Your parents and you should make a decision. We are not the masters over your faith. However, the Faithful and Discreet Slave has the responsibility to warn against spiritual dangers and to encourage to put Kingdom interests first. So, the Slave discourages from going to college for a long period of time.
I have often times heard experiences of individuals who were about to complete their college programs, and who dropped out when they learned the Truth. Some other baptized individuals have turned down scholarships. What will YOU do? What decisions will you make? Will you refuse or not? Will you get a university education or not? You will be accountable to Jehovah for this. We would like to praise those in the audience who dropped out of college when they accepted the Truth, [as we praise] all those who, after listening to this talk, will make the same decision.
Maybe you still want to advocate the possibility of going to college. You may say: "You see, Bother X went to college, and now he is serving in the congregation and is also a pioneer". True, he may have survived college, so to speak. But what follows is a true experience of a young man who suffered from a compulsive disorder which made him wash his hands over and over again, even 100 times a day. This disorder discouraged him so much, that one day he decided to commit suicide. He bought a rifle, put it in his mouth, and pulled the trigger. The bullet, however didn't kill him, but instead perforated the part of his brain that was responsible for his compulsive disorder. He survived and after that he managed to live a normal life. Yes, it's true, he survived, but would you recommend that other people imitate what that young man did? Similarly, some have survived college, but would you recommend that to others? Instead of investing in a higher education, it would be advisable to grow in the knowledge of Jehovah. In order to start knowing the Bible better, we must read the Bible every day. Everyday. Are we doing that?
