The Bible is a unique religious book for that very reason. Most of it views the soul as the organism itself. This is an idea that is finally appreciated by psychologists.
science deals with what can be observed, directly or indirectly.
so in one sense, you could say that science is simply not providing any answers to the question about the existence of a soul or spirit component of a human being.. .
that, of course, keeps science polite to religious ideas.. .

pending tragedy for the wts and jws.
the heavy-handed tactics of the leaders of the watchtower society have begun to bear rotten fruit.
i suspect that it is just a matter of time before the need arises to coin some phrase to describe disfellowshipped or disassociated jehovah's witnesses who bomb conventions, shoot up kingdom halls or even attack bethel facilities.. leaders of the wts (and local elders) should stop and think about the lessons to be learned from columbine high school, the postal service (i.e.

It isn't fair to speculate on the antics of a person who goes on a rampage. You can't blame organizations for the behavior of a crazy person unless they advocate the kind of acting out you are suggesting. The Watchtower does not tell people to return evil for evil.
The Watchtower could change into the kind of "open" organization you desire and it still could be the victim of someone who goes crazy.
I don't see the Watchtower as behaving much differently from General Motors, The Red Cross, or any other human organization.
good morning everyone,.
i'm very new on here--just "born yesterday", as a matter of fact, but am finding out how wonderful it is to be able to be free to express thoughts and opinions, share ideas, give comfort, and find hope, within "these walls".. i'm going to ask a question, and that is, how long did it take any of you souls out there to find your true self, after leaving jw's?
i was very young when i was first introduced to the studies of jw's.
People blame too much on the Watchtower. It becomes a catch basin for all their tears. Growing up is tough. Don't confuse the maturational process with Watchtower influence. Orthodox religious beliefs no matter what religion often bring a person in conflict with the world around them.
i have been reviewing my tape of the dateline program and i will make some comments in depth.
however i have a question?.
in the call to the legal department at the watchtower did the person representing the watchtower identify himself by name?
I just noticed You Know raised a similar question.
The one person that needs to answer these questions is Bill Bowen.
After seeing him in the Dateline program he reminds me of everything that is wrong with Jehovah's Witnesses. There are countless elders in the organization that feel as Bill Bowen does that they are above the law. Bill Bowen is just the other side of the same coin.

In the call to the legal department at the Watchtower did the person representing the Watchtower identify himself by name? Was that person properly notified that they were having their conversation recorded?
Also is the voices of the two parties in the phone conversation identified correctly? Who was saying Yup..Yup...Yup? And who was saying the longer sentences about what to do? It was very unclear. In fact the person who was identified as the Watchtower representative had a southern accent not unlike Bill Bowens. Did something get screwed up?
i did a search on bill bowens postings in this forum.
very interesting.
revealing!.

Most of your objections center around the difficulty in catching child molesters.
The hardest molester to catch is the parent. I don't know how you prevent that. The society is getting better at utilizing videos. Maybe book study groups could get together one night after the book study and the conductor could show a very explicit video to the group. I'm talking about a video that would have a child actor talk about being molested by parents. There might even be a segment with an adult threatening a child with harm to their parents if they tell. The video could end with a sincere invitation to talk to an adult they trust if something similar has happened to them. The Book Study Conductor could then re-state the invitation to talk about this.
They might even pay close attention to the reactions of the little kids and parents during the video. There are so many things that may be done that can improve things. Simply changing policy won't change things. You've got to go to the heart of the matter.
Does the fact that JW's haven't done something like this mean they are negligent? NO. Time will tell what JW's will do. They don't need Bill Bowen as the cheerleader or inquisitor.
I don't believe the molester has secret methods. The most important thing a molester needs is a block of private time with a child. Parents need to know where their kids are spending time. There is a difference between responsibility & blame. If a responsible parent discovers that their kid has been molested then they ought to go to the police. If the person that is being accused is a "brother" then they ought to be informed that they have 24 hours to turn themselves in or you will turn them in. If they are guilty they have time to prepare THEIR family.
the fake precision fallacy involves making a claim with a mathematical precision that is impossible to obtain.. he does this on his site where he starts with an alleged and unsupported figure that the watchtower has a file of some 23,000 child molesters and runs that figure up to the point where it becomes absolutely absurd.
his purpose is to persuade readers that jehovah's witnesses are a hot bed of child molestation.
the problem is that he starts with at best very dubious sources and then he takes this data and treats it as if it is precise and factual.. it is not unusual for many of us to use a frivolous "false precision" in making statements.

You have a legitimate gripe. I noticed I have failed to address your questions. I assure you I will. It's a work week and I gotta work.

The blood issue is based on very clear misinterpretation of the scriptures. It is also deadly. It is a policy that is unique to JW's. If the GB changes the policy absolutely no-one will die because they refuse blood.
Molestation is endemic to mankind. The solution is not simply the adoption of a "popular" policy. I believe the watchtower policy with respect to molestation will continue to improve and evolve. I believe that the way governments deal with these issues will continue swinging in different directions just as they do on death penalty, abortion, drug abuse. If Bowen wants to campaign for uniform reporting laws in all states that would be more effective than attacking JW's. Ignore religious policy because it will never be stricter than the law allows.

Ashitaka and other hijackers:
I would love to respond to your posts some actually make worthy points to rebutt. But....we kind of have a chasm of ridicule to narrow. Apologies are in order. Hijacking, obscenities? I choose not to deal with people in the real world who exhibit that kind of behavior I don't make an exception on line.
If everyone here checks in as a hijacker and I have no-one to converse with ... that makes it easier. I can do what You Know has learned to do - Post & Run.

I can't keep up with all the new posts.
Blood. The Watchtower policy on blood is detestable. First of all there should be NO blood policy. Any blood policy is based on a gross misunderstanding of the scriptures on blood.
Because I take responsibility for myself and my family I have discussed this issue with my wife, kids and their mates. You won't find blood cards in our wallets. It is up to each individual to make this decision for themselves.
I would be willing to contribute to full page ads in newspapers calling JW's to account for this. I don't have the money to pay for a whole page of the Wall Street Journal but I'm sure a $100 per year from a few thousand people could do a lot of good.
Please post if there is an organization that does this.
