I am with cultBgone. Sometimes I go several weeks without even looking. Other times I check in daily to see if there is anything new I should be aware of so I can be on alert with my parents. Never been a big poster. Lots of anger in the beginning...now...it's not my focus. I avoid the bashing threads because they dredge up old feelings. I am not even known as being an ex JW in my new community. Doesn't matter as much as the days go by. I am just a regular person with a personal belief system. It's why I stay out of the state of my growing up years. Life is moving on :)

Even my 6-year old son can recognize TRASH when he sees it. He threw a NWT into the public garbage can! Yay!
by Faithful Witness inwe were out walking in a small michigan community this weekend.
we came across a "free lending library" on the street corner.
the sign said, "take a book, leave a book, or do both!

While I totally agree that the NWT is a JW fabrication, I hope you left some books in return for taking it and then tossed the book in private. Books in general should be respected and if someone saw a bible being tossed in the garbage (even if the NWT is a man made, self serving interpretation that no one should base their life on) they most definitely wouldn't understand the motive behind it and may see it as the desecration of a holy book. I understand the motive but just know how sensitive some are to the disposal of a "sacred" book even if we know it's been rewritten to align with JW thinking...I have disposed of mine...in private.

Where is the "worship" at the KH? Maybe I missed it.
by BU2B inworship (verb).
show reverence and adoration for (a deity); honor with religious rites.. .
i was just thinking about the two meetings a week.

There were some songs from the old song book that made me feel like I was worshipping. Fortunately I left not long after the release of the dreadful new songbook and was not subjected to those horrible compositions for very long. I remember standing there with no one singing because the melody and word combinations were impossible. I read music very well and would try, but the arrangements are so awkward and unmeaningful....they destroyed many songs that I had a fondness for.

The insensitivity and opportunistic nature of witness at the 9/11 site !
by stuckinarut2 ini saw an online post with pictures of all the witnessing carts all around the 9/11 site during the anniversary of the tragedy.... im appalled at how opportunistic they are, and how they prey on people in a mourning and vulnerable state!.
apparantly they boast of: "there are 65 carts, with 200 witnesses manning the area... and so far 15 new studies started!".

I am proud to say I was never religiously opportunistic under tragic circumstances. I NEVER did cemetary witnessing even if I was the lone dissident and needed to get 90 hours in the last week of August. I suppose having the carts is better than having 1000 witnesses swarming the crowds of mourners. At least there is the choice to approach.

How old were you when baptized?
by Coded Logic ini was baptized at the age of 11. like most of us, my commitment wasnt to honor god but rather i was gang pressed into the service of the wtbts.
and, at such a young age, it was impossible for me to appreciate the enormity of my actions.
honestly, how could i possibly have known any better?

16. I was the then PO's daughter and I had procrastinated enough. No one ever studied a single book with me. I just did it. Crownsville, MD...the old one. I don't remember ever having a "love for Jehovah", just a fear of losing my friends and dying at Armageddon which I truly believed in. I thought baptism would protect me. Weird.

How do we set up a "Used New Bike Fund" for Terry?
by BucketShopBill inis there any way we can try to start a crowd-fund to help terry get some wheels quicker than he currently can?
with craigslist and a couple of bucks from a few members we can help terry get moving.
does anyone have any ideas how we can do a "theists for terry" bike fund raiser and challenge the atheists to a bucket-head challenge?

A rose by any other name..............
by sparrowdown ini'm curious, why and how did you choose your username?.
does it hold any special significance for you, is there a share-able back story?.
for me sparrowdown is a playful reference to matt 10:29 and the title of the movie black hawk down.. matt 10:29 was my go-to scrip to "prove" that god cares about us as individuals.

He made some great points but shut down their minds when he brought up the Flying Spaghetti Monster. He may have actually made them think had they not been given reason to shut down. First part was great but sadly it went downhill...witnesses turn it all off when the mocking begins and their "righteous" indignation makes them dig in harder. I know...I used to do that very thing. They were so not prepared. I am sure all this tract work is dulling the recollection of basic scriptures. Who needs a bible or know what's in it when you just hand out tracts and carry a tablet??
