I never got nervous and was informed over and over that not being nervous was a sign I was relying on myself and not Jehovah. A most undesirable trait...but that didn't stop them from asking me up to half way through the bible reading to fill in. As a woman that meant finding an equally not nervous hh. I had my go to girls. I have to say the org did help my public speaking.

Did you feel nervous before/while giving talks?
by likeabird inthe subject of feeling nervous came up in sfpw recent thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/268270/2/im-curious-when-you-were-asked-to-do-a-demo-for-a-service-meeting-part-how-did-the-request-make-you-feel#.uqgz_0nd13b.
it reminded me of a sister i knew.
you always knew when you got to the meeting if she had a talk that night.

Governing Body member Sam Heard at our Assembly
by problemaddict innice enough gentleman.
the parts were pretty watered down.
mom asks him if he is ready.....did he clean off all the dirt?

I could not sit through one more assembly. I hope I would not have laughed at the killing part even if I was still in. I remember hearing experiences or anectodal comments when i was still "in" that disturbed me and I wouldn't laugh or clap. There is nothing funny about billions dying. No JW puts a face to those individual 7 billion. They don't picture their niece or nephew or the sweet neighbor who brings soup when they are under the weather bloodied and massacred by a "loving" god. All witnesses see is a mass of Satan worshipping pagans who deserve to die enmass. There is no individualism or emotional connection to the actual people they expect to be destroyed.

I remember sitting through an almost 90 min wedding talk. There was whispering and fidgeting and bewildered looks all around. It was tortuous. Plus we were all starved by reception time but it was a potluck type dinner so it was delayed. Happily I do believe their marriage did work out.

My brother died yesterday
by satinka in"albert" was 55 years old, and the fifth-born of seven children.
i am the second oldest and babysat him often while he was growing up --- and while i was still at home.. yesterday, albert was out taking his usual morning stroll around his small town, when he collapsed on the sidewalk.
the doctors said it was a heart attack.

Quite an interesting first meeting with my Therapist.
by truthseekeriam inthe moment i mentioned jehovah's witnesses he headed over to his file cabinet and handed me this print out.. .
dear beloved one, .
i see your loneliness and fears.

I agree...red flags regardless of his opinions on the cult. He still has a religious agenda of sorts. My therapist waited 8 long years of knowing it was a cult to let me realize it myself and I couldn't be more thankful. To hit a patient like that off the bat is not appropriate in my opinion.

I'm curious, when you were asked to do a demo for a Service Meeting part, how did the request make you feel?
by Stand for Pure Worship indid you decline out of fear?
decline because you hated doing demos?
accept the request graciously?

Never bothered me. I could always bullshit my way through anything :)

Ever consider joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
by rawe inhas anyone here left jehovah's witnesses to join the churuch of jesus christ of latter-day saints?
what was your motivation for doing so and how has it worked out?.
if you haven't joined the lds or considered it, as an ex-jw, what is your general view of the lds faith?.

I was contacted on Match.com by a guy who is Mormon. That was a quick and big no way. It's a cult just like the witnesses. Their beliefs are a bit odd. I have chosen to stay out of religion all together.

For a Jehovah's Witness, which causes more problems: a decorated tree, or a decorated woman?
by I_love_Jeff inlet's say that a brother, joe, is walking to kingdom hall and he passes a store display featuring a christmas tree.
"wretched pagans!
" he mutters to himself.

I do still look the same lol...better now I think, since I don't have to fake smiling.
I don't mind my experience being told. It is ridiculous. If it helps show the sexism in the org by all means.
Another time I was in a turtleneck long sleeved dress giving a demo on the service meeting and was pulled aside afterward and told to stop looking good on stage because the brothers were focusing on my appearance as opposed to the information. I was shocked as I was not showing a bit of skin. None. Was mid calf length as well.
As FlyingHighNow says, they don't have to worry about that anymore. These pretty trees have left the building.

From experience it is the woman. I was told I had to get married by the elders since I was "a serious distraction" and "too attractive" to the brothers in the congregation to remain single. Apparently getting married was going to change my appearance. Ridiculous. One of the plethora of reasons I am out :)
The pagan tree apparently presents less of a problem lol

It is definitely a process. I have successfully been faded for 26 months. I don't post here very often but I do come here to keep up with the latest goings on since my parents are still in though they have really relaxed their stance now that all of their children have left. There is a new kh that I pass daily and I find that I don't even ever look at it or notice it even exists anymore. I am house hunting and have to say that since I went out in service in the areas where I am looking I have a better feel of the neighborhoods so that I count that as a plus.
I don't know if the effects of the cult will ever go away completely but I truly feel good about my life for the first time. Celebrating holidays feels natural even though I was a born in.
I have enjoyed reading your posts and you have been very strong. I have had to be a strong woman and in the org they don't like strong women. You will make it one day at a time. Each day that passes is one more day of the rest of your life which will be a new adventure. When I am going through a difficult time in my life I just say to myself, "one year from today things will be entirely different and I have the power to shape that outcome". I am always right even if something new has popped up.
Hang in there girl :)
