This one thing I really wish would cross the Atlantic to the UK.
We have a "harvest festival" but it's really a church service/offering and is limited to churches and schools.
Thanksgiving would be brilliant. When exactly is it?

even loyal jw's actually do, even though they are careful to tell anyone seeing that big turkey with all the fixins, "we aren't really celebrating thanksgiving, but everyone could get together today".

Caught the first two episodes of Torchwood on BBC3 last night.
It was great. Dr. Who spin off for adults (It had sex in itand violence)
By the way. Daleks are particularly terrifying now. Their achilles heel is gone. They have a new power and a new command. ELEVATE. ELEVATE.
(on a side note I would like to say that the WT is right. Film and TV have reached terrible levels of sex and violence. . . .)

you are right. Marking as opposed to shunning.
He would probably find himself tolerated at public meetings where they could "encourage" him. But they wouldn't extend their fellowship beyond that.
If he was blatant and open in his actions there may even be a "local needs" item on "the dangers of associating with non-baptised fornicators (mentioning no names)!!!"

iPod uPod We all scream 4 iPods
by bronzefist insorry if this has been discussed to death but......... now that i'm not sending $$$$$$ to ny i suddenly find i can treat myself to guilty pleasures.
i bought an 80gb ipod (which i love dearly) and was just wondering if anyone else has succumb to this "fetish"?
any tips or extras i might need to know about?

My iPod approach is slightly different.
I got beautiful black iPod Nano for my birthday.
It's only 2gb but hey! I only use it for music on the move. I'm still having to do a day or so window cleaning (I'm nearly out. THAT will be the final bit of JW residue out of my life!) it really helps pass the time.
I've no intention of getting a docking station. A simple interconnect and it goes straight through my HiFi
I'm a bit of a dinosaur tho. I really object to paying money to download DATA! So I buy my music on CD (I want to feel it, touch it, look at it and put it in a rack!) and I rip what I want onto the iPod.
That said I love my Nano. Recently they upgraded it (after only 8 months on the market, WTF) My wife said "don't you fancy the new version" My answer is always the same. You decide on your budget, buy the best you can and something you're really happy with, and then you jump OFF their merry-go-round of desirability!

i like the idea myself... in another thread i said "i noticed that i found myself more sorrowful for military funerals then i used to be, and i am finally starting to see christmas as an act of love, and not so much a disobedience to god's ways.
i often thought of how jesus took the pharisee's traditions and explained how they were evil, because of how they were being used.

Paperback Bible
by PoppyR inmy mum proudly showed me the latest development, a cheap horrible paperback bible, she said how great it was to be able to turn the pages so easily!!
how do the dubs do it?

As I've mentioned before, I am one of the owners of the local Christian Bookshop. And a paperback bible is nothing new.
Mind you it is amazing how God is turning his flagship organisation into a bunch of cheapskates.
Whatever happened to "nothing but the best for the Lord"?
Have they sold those ornate chandaliers yet?

Glad to here it!
I personally have moved on both in faith and in life and so I have closure even though I don't think they have (as shown by the fact that some treat me one way, some another and some keep changing their minds!)
My wife though struggles with exactly this issue especially with respects to family. I think she would like to know and for everyone else to know where we stand.
