What has the WTS EVER "predicted" that has actually come true?
by integ inyou'd think they could point to something right?
obviously we're the one true religion".. i can't fathom how anyone of any intelligence would be willing to join up with this org after doing even rudimentary research.. for years they have taught that it's wrong to seek advanced education or to plan for a "worldly" future by trusting in this system of things and then this past sunday the watchtower article rips on people for not planning for the future in regard to their elderly relatives.
maybe if they hadn't been teaching for 100 yr's that the end was "just around the corner" and telling us we'd better believe that fact...or else, we would have planned better for a future that you said without reservation would not even occur.. what mind blowing prediction can they point to that would convince someone "oh yeah..these guys have it right"...?.

@ADCMC... also, there are no downtown hotels on the official lodging list. None. Not a single one. I was looking at that list a couple of weeks ago just to see. That part of the email is pure bull****. The most expensive room costs $124 per night for a four person occupancy. Most range from $79 to $119, with the bulk at the lower end of that range.
About the only thing that MIGHT be true is that Husky Stadium has never been rented out, that is, the NEWLY RENOVATED Husky Stadium, and only because it was completed last summer. Well, duh!

Our cong. is doing the same thing. The bus system from where we are is spotty, so it makes sense. But the rental is pretty spendy. Can't recall the exact cost, but I was surprised when it was talked about months ago. The cong. isn't fleecing. The money is going directly to the bus company. But the fact that WTBTS put an International Convention in Seattle in an OUTDOOR STADIUM kinda makes one wonder what they were thinking. The weather could be nice in July, but it could also be miserable. We'll just have to wait and see and hope for the best.

COBE cannot be 80 or more
by fader77 ina new letter no longer allows an elder to be cobe if hes 80 or more.

Thanks, Fader77. This is actually quite outrageous. The COBE isn't really all that special of a position. This person schedules Service Meeting parts, maybe public talks (though that's usually delegated to someone else), handles scheduling meetings, and is basically a point of correspondance for the branch. This is absolutely ludicrous. The GB is in a much, much more responsible position, yet they can be on the GB? That makes no sense. Also, they got rid of the title "Presiding Overseer" because it seemed to give too much authority to one elder on the body. This was emphasized when it went to Coordinator of the Body of Elders. This change makes it seems like this one position DOES actually have more authority.
This religion is getting weirder by the second.

Really need to see this in PDF form... not that I don't believe this weirdness, but a PDF would be most helpful.

The Rants of a Dumbass Elder Still Serving
by TTATTelder inok in the effort of full disclosure, i have had a couple of drinks and recently experienced a circuit assembly and a bad experience with a co.. i don't know where to effing begin.
first of all the circuit assembly was a joke.
half the assembly was about pioneering and selling your soul to be a no-pay salesman for the borg.

Let's clear up this tiny little matter about Christ's ruling. WTBTS has unwittingly said what the Bible has been saying all along. Christ's rule is not just 1000 years long. The 1000 years is the length of time that the holy ones are to rule with Christ.
Rev 20:4-6: "And I saw thrones, and those who sat on them were given authority to judge. Yes, I saw the souls of those executed for the witness they gave about Jesus and for speaking about God, and those who had not worshipped the wild beast or its image and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand. And they came to life and ruled as kings with the Christ for 1,000 years. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the 1,000 years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. Happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of God and of the Christ, and they will rule as kings with him for the 1,000 years."
It's true that WTBTS views Christ as ruling only for 1,000 years, though. They call it "Christ's Thousand Year Reign" and the "Thousand Year Reign of Christ". These are both incorrect. The Bible speaks of him ruling forever. (Isa 9:7; Luke 1:22,23). Even after the 1,000 years, Christ is shown as the Lamb having a throne in New Jerusalem along with God. (Rev. 22:3,4). 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 speaks of Christ handing over the Kingdom at the end and subjecting himself to his Father. That doesn't mean he stops ruling as a king. To me, it means that he fully accomplished that which his Father appointed him to do, up to and including abolishing death. After that, based on Revelation 22:3, 4 it seems they rule together as co-rulers.
The 1,000 years, though, only applies to the time Satan is abyssed, and is also the length of time that those holy ones are to rule with Christ.
This is how I presently understand things.

This was the subject of the WT study for the last two weeks. A comment from a middle-aged sister: "We are GOING to get old. We can't stop it."
I guess this writer(s) of these two articles and the majority of JW don't agree with the GB about it being the last day (or is it now the last hour?) of the last days. I mean, why have planning for elderly care articles when this system is going to end "very soon"?

Congregation rebels!
by A.proclaimer inmy congregation got a reminder today to start donating money.
elder said that after the letter on the new donation arrangement was read, the contributions for that fund went from the average (i believe it was $500 or so) to $0.
after that reminder, cash was put into those boxes.

The fake notice that Zoos posted is closer to reality than you think. If a cong. misses a monthly EFT (Electrronic Funds Transfer) which is due on a certain day each month, they absolutely do get a notice. I've seen this personally. No late fee, of course, but definitely a notice.
