What You May Have Missed While You Were Away
by OldGenerationDude inafter conversing with a few folks on this board, it came to my attention that a lot of what i've been writing sounds very foreign to a lot of people.
the reason is simple, really.. after talking with some of you here, i have come to realize that i am really from a very different era of the watchtower than a lot of you are.
i have much to learn from you guys (like i still can't figure out how anyone got that overlapping-generation fluff to pass-in my day we probably would have burned as a witch anyone who even dared suggest such a thing as "true doctrine" among the witnesses).. some have mentioned to me how what i've written about sounds "foreign" or even fabricated...that is until they look it up for themselves.

The ECHO of broadcast emotions..........the empty chair where "god" sits
by Terry ini spent sunday with a number of ex-jw's in a very pleasant get-together.
we all discussed the usual things, of course.. one thing i always notice.
how much of the "flavor" of god remains in one form or another.. with ex-jw's the distaste for religion is the strongest without necessarily including distaste for "belief".. religion is the package and god is the contents, you might say.. but-wait, there's more!.

Interesting, but one part somewhat confusing. I don't quite understand what you are saying. I don't think I'm dumb but explain this a little more. I could be an explanation for dummies; and I paused.
Can you actually BELIEVE in a General Category WITHOUT specificity....without an INSTANCE?
(Pause....while you think.......................................................................................)
Bing!

Has anyone read "Misquoting Jesus" It is about the NT and how it was written down, times, dates. It is relevant to this discussion. Very interesting and a little disturbing to me.

Horrid Time for Me
by Band on the Run inmy pain has been in remission.
i have a morphine pump.
pain broke through toward the end of the medication.

Yes, it's difficult to get the WT teaching out of our minds. We know it's nothing you did and you have been good enough, life just brings us a lot of hard times we have to endure. If the morphine doesn't do it, try
dilaudid. I have never had it, but we use it on sickle cell patients and it helps them through their crisis. My husband had a dose of dilaudid once and told me it was the best medicine he had ever had. Hope you have a good day.

Band on the Run, I am sorry that you are in so much pain. If you have a morphine pump it must be bad. I send you well wishes and am thinking of you. I like you and enjoy reading your post, you are full of passion when
you believe in something. I hope today is a better day and night for you.

Lots of JWs out at tables this morning!
by AuntBee inso, i actually stopped at two different tables that i saw.
the first was 2 elderly men - they were so sweet and open to discuss.
i brought up the topic of the divine name and why the wt inserted it into the nt with no evidence from greek manuscripts.

I mentioned that i was out preaching, contrary to what they say that no one else preaches, but she said it didn't count because it's not door to door. !!
(and don't scold me for being a Protestant, or i'll never come back. pfff. LOL)
If they are sitting and hawking books at tables, that isn't door-to-door preaching, so it does't count either and they are wasteing their time. I could be wrong, but the Bible never states that the early Christians went dtd
and counted their time or placed any scrolls and made back-calls.

Don't Ever forget
by Terry indon't ever forget:.
1.how the christian religion behaved when it held all the power of the state along with the moral provenance.
men were not free to suggest.

Terry, Good points to keep in mind.
You know what we forgot most easily?
What we don't want to face, don't want to know and aren't likely to approve of.
How honest is that?
This last part reminds me of the quote, don't remember who said it "To thine own self be true."
wasblind, that's also a good point and one that we forget at times and get burned all over again
I find it so refreshing to read/listen to people's own thoughts and reasoning instead of hearing "The WT said, the Elders said..."

What is this about "tables?" Never heard of it. Athough, as I was leaving WalMart a few weeks age, this man rolled down his window and started preaching to me. I asked him "Do you know when the end of this system is going to
occur?' I thought he was a JW and he was. He answered "All that information is in this little book." He then handed the book to me. I think it was the "What does the Bible Teach" book. I looked at it then handed it back to him. I
now wish I had bought it just so I could see what they said. I did think that was a lazy way of preaching but he was kinda old, 70 years old maybe.

I was surprised when I read Alice's response. It was mean and uncalled for.
