My ex-daughter in law just overdosed on prescription drugs at the age of 50. She took pain meds regularly and went to the doc and got a fentanyl patch 100 mcg for back pain. I don't think the docs knew about her other meds, but don't really know. She probably had a drink also. More people are dying from prescription drugs than illigal drugs. Dilaudid is a very strong drug and you say he buys pain meds off the street? This man has a big problem. Thank goodness you changed the locks. No one, parent of not, has the right to barg into your house. I think your wife did the right thing in not having a confrontation with her father but one may come in the future as your fil does not seem to care what he does. My husband also took pain pills for back pain. The doc would not give him anything but percocet every 6 hours because he drank so much rum. He died from organ failure after his liver failed. He was 62 and refused to quit drinking. It's a bad way to go.

Angry/Pouty Father In Law
by TOTH inseveral months ago my father in law abused his key priveleges for the final time.
he barged in after my son and i had left and harassed my darling wife/his daughter and tried to bully her into giving him her pain medication.
when i heard about the situation after he had left we decided that the locks needed to be changed.

How the Shrinking of the Awake! has Affected Many!

I always read the WT cover to cover but did not read the Awake except an occasional article. I was a serious student. I really thought I knew the truth of what the Bible taught through the WTS. What a joke on me!!

NEW LIGHT in latest Watchtower!!!
by The Searcher inliterally hundreds and hundreds of quotations like the one below have been made, to "prove" that only the heavenly -hopers are "sons of god".

"jehovah forgives the error of the other sheep on the basis of jesus shed blood of the covenant.

I pretty much agree and remember it like Chariklo wrote. The WTS is such a lier and interpret the scriptures to their advantage when the real meaning is so simply stated such as "I have other sheep (non-jews) which are not of this fold (jews)... they will become one fold under one shepherd." Paraphaseing from memory.

The first time I read that the WTS believed that only the 144,000 had Jesus as their mediator was in the early 80s. I saved the wt copy but don't know where it is. That is what made me think they were liers. I believe that I read in
CoC, that Franz said many brothers were disturbed over this claim. Does anyone else remember that issue?

Are you up and down all night?
by compound complex ini am - every hour or so - but last night i slept for 5 hours uninterrupted, and this despite 4 cups of coffee late afternoon.
still can't account for what was for me tantamount to a full-night's sleep .... .
do you sleep well most nights?.

Yes, ShirleyW, another thing to worry about! What is one to do when sleep is hard to come by.
Talesin, Yes shift work is hard on the body, especially those with some miles on them. I am taking it easy so I can return to work, that activity that never seems to end. I hope you too are feeling better.

How did you long-timers do it before the internet / Ray Franz books / abundant information?
by irondork inwith all the tools and information at the disposal of newly awakened ones, it's still no easy task coming to terms with the magnitude of it all.
it still takes a lot of gut-wrenching time and effort to get to the point where you are sure you made the right decision to leave.. .
how did you long-timers (old-timers, respectfully) manage it without crisis of conscience, christian freedom, jwn, jwfacts, freeminds, access to thousands of fellow survivors with stories just like yours?.

Didn't need Ray Franz to see the bullshit. One doesn't need to look very hard to see the bullshit.
Farkel, I completly agree with you. I left before I read Franz's book. I had already stopped attending meetings in early 70s because I was disillusioned with the borg but stilll read the WT. When I read that only the 144,00 had Jesus as their mediator, I knew it was a lie. I thoungt that if I did not have Jesus as a mediator, hell, I didn't have anything. After that mag. there were other contradictions. I attended the Baptish church, my boss's church,on Memorial night, just to see what it was like. My jw coworker ratted me out. The JC met with me and I told them the WTS were not telling the truth about Jesus being only the mediator for the 144,000 and other things. They df'd me but did give me the option of appealing. I did not appeal. I did not want to get df'd. They told me that in order to remain inside the org. I could not ever discuss the Bible with my df'd husband (he was df'd for smoking). That was too much for me, it was against my constitutional rights to free speech. I had to give up my family and my husband's family but that's what I did. I felt I was the only weird one who couldn't behave until I read CoC. Now, after finding this site, I think I am one of the ones with some brains who knows the WTS is nothing more that a publishing, real estate cult! I have learned a lot here and know I made the right decision when I left. I just can't believe my father took us away from the Catholic church and into this cult! What was he thinking. At least as Catholics we would have prepared ourselves for living our lives out in this world. As it is, I did not get my nursing degree until I was 54 years old. As someone else posted, at least now with sites like this, others may leave sooner and not waste too much time in that cult! I also had an older brother and a yonger brother who had left the org, so that helped me leave.

CoCo, I love the name Vincent. It remindes me of Vincent van Gogh. He was such a troubled soul. One of my favorite songs is about him, don't know if it is called Vincent or Starry Starry night. I listen to it often.

If you never have used the internet, would you have returned to the borg or stay in the organization?
by Iamallcool inif i have never used the internet, i would probably return to the borg by now.

NO, I left in late 70s-early 80s. I was greatly upset when the WTS wrote that only the 144,000 had Jesus as a Mediator. I knew that was a lie. Then they said Paul did not have an understanding on Hebrews where it states that
Abraham and others were looking for a better place, the heavenly one. I knew they were not telling the truth. I got df'd for apostacy because I told the JC the WTS was lying. There was no internet then but somehow I did get the
book CoC. I realized then that I was not the only one that rejected the WTS's teachings. Although I have been online since the Mid-90s, I never thought to look for other x-jws until this year when I came across a brochure
from the Witnesses for Jesus, which I had had since the early 80s. Before coming to this site, I still believed the WTS was just another religion that did a lot of publishing. Now I believe it is nothing more that a cult that uses the
r/f to sustain it's publishing and real estate. When I left I never considered going back. Now that I have learned more about them on this site, I have nothing but disdain for them. I only hate that the majority of my family is still
in and I do not expect any to leave. So sad!

I find it interesting that, if I am understanding correctly, you are writing about yourself in two parts; as the young child opening the door and the one knocking on the door. That may be a way of discovering/explaining feelings. I am interested to see how this develops. I took creative writing a few semesters ago and learned a lot about writing. I am enjoying reading your writings.
