Near Death Experiences - How do JWs explain
by Double Edge ini'm not a jw, but it is my understanding that jw's don't believe in an immortal soul that passes on after the body dies...that when a person dies, they 'sleep' until called forth in the resurrection if they were found worthy.
is that correct?
if so, what do they think of the numerous documented near-death experiences over the centuries?

Legal Suggestion when facing Elders
by Amazing inlegal suggestion when facing elders .
there have been a number of posts stating that the elders have called and requested a meeting.
i guess that either there is a full moon out, or the society has been putting the bug up the elder's rectal orfice to chase down less than active jws.

Why should we give them so much power?

A DOOM & GLOOMER AFTER MY OWN HEART
by You Know inthe controversy regarding the future is my no means confined to apostate dubs and jehovah's witnesses.
many other than "bible thumpers" can see big trouble looming just around the next bend.
of course they are ridiculed too by those with opposing views.

I AM NOT AN APOSTATE!
by Pureheart inhello room,.
websters new world dictionary defines apostate as one who have abandoned their faith.
that definition does not describe me.

Dr. Martin Luther King Day
by Thirdson inmonday in the usa is mlk day and many will reflect on the life and work of the great civil rights leader and the dream he set in motion.. while generally i agree with being law-abiding to the utmost degree i hope that if i had lived in the us during the 60's i would have stood up for the rights of minorities in america.
this leads me to my question.
what was the watchtower society's stance on the civil rights movement?
-

OK Nathan, you got my feathers up!
Martin Luther King is one of the greatest men that lived in my estimation, because he made people aware of their constitutional rights and champeoned those rights to the world by whatever means he could use. He did not shrink back in the face of adversity. He spoke in hehalf of everyone no matter what race they were. Because of him, human and civil rights were enforced more speedily.

questions about obtaining Higher Education for JWs
by AjaxMan ini have read a couple of threads the last couple of days that dealt with what you have to give up when becoming a jw.. most posts that i read said they have to give up getting a higher education.
my question is this: is that still a trend today?
that elders frown or discourage young jws from going to college or university by telling them to put kingdom's interest first?

Hope this is not too long.
*** yp 177 22 What Career Should I Choose? ***
A university degree may or may not improve your employment prospects. But one fact is indisputable: “The time left is reduced”! (1 Corinthians 7:29) For all its presumed benefits, would four years or more in a university be the best use of that remaining time?—Ephesians 5:16.
Would a university education steer you toward or away from your spiritual goals? Remember, a high income is not a Christian priority. (1 Timothy 6:7, 8) Yet, a survey of U.S. university administrators described today’s students as ‘career-oriented, concerned with material success, concerned with self.’ One group of students said: “Money. It seems like all we talk about is money.” How might being immersed in an atmosphere of intense competition and selfish materialism affect you?
Universities may no longer have the riotous scenes of the 1960’s. But a decrease in university bedlam hardly means the campus environment is wholesome. Concluded one study of campus life: “Students still have almost unlimited freedom in personal and social matters.” Drugs and alcohol are used freely, and promiscuity is the rule—not the exception. If this is true of universities in your land, might living there thwart your efforts to remain morally clean?—1 Corinthians 6:18.
Alternatives to University Education
In view of these facts, many Christian youths have decided against a university education. Many have found that the training offered in congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses—the weekly Theocratic Ministry School in particular—has given them a real edge in finding employment. Though not possessing a university degree, such youths learn to be poised, adept at expressing themselves, and quite capable of handling responsibility. Furthermore, while in secondary school, some take courses in typing, computer programming, auto repair, machine-shop work, and so forth. Such skills may lend themselves to part-time employment and are often in high demand. And though many youths disdain ‘working with their hands,’ the Bible dignifies doing “hard work.” (Ephesians 4:28; compare Proverbs 22:29.) Why, Jesus Christ himself learned a trade so well that he came to be called “the carpenter”!—Mark 6:3.
True, in some lands university graduates have so flooded the job market that it is hard to obtain even commonplace jobs without some additional job training. But often there are apprenticeship programs, vocational or technical schools, and short-term university courses that teach marketable skills with a minimum investment of time and money. Never forget, too, that there is a factor that employment statistics do not take into account: God’s promise to provide for those who give priority to spiritual interests.—Matthew 6:33Now after reading all of that, what conclusion would one reach about a university education?

Post-Cult Trauma Syndrome
by FreePeace inhere is some interesting info from a website at http://www.refocus.org/postcult.html that may help those just leaving the wts to understand the feelings they are experiencing (and the rest of us too).
it is not about jw's per se, but it still applies.. --------------------------.
post-cult trauma syndrome*.

Hi FreePeace,
thanks for the post. I am experiencing similar feelings on some of the points that you listed. I feel good that many of the ones listed does not apply to me. Maybe because my family even though JWs, never really followed the strict WTS agenda. The Bible yes, but as far as the WT and book laws were concerned, we did some; mostly the ones that suited us, the other stuff we just ignored and it was our "business."
Example: My mother would go weeks without attending a meeting. She was "sick." uh-huh She wasn't too sick to have her non-witness boy friend over that none of the other JWs knew about. She would witness to him hoping that he would take it serious and maybe their relationship could grow deeper. Strange for a witness, huh? But her unorthadox ways worked to her childrens advantage. We are not "totally" traumatized and devasted as some poor souls are after coming to see the real face of the WT.Pureheart
