  Thanks to starfish422 and SevenofNine I might actually get the VCR up and running (or should I say recording?) for next week. I'll be practicing for the next few days. So, on the assumption that I actually do have a recorded show, after I watch it I don't want to just leave it lying around. I could send it to someone (preferably in Canada because of customs duties and whatever) who could make copies. If there's someone who could do that, please reply to this topic, not my e-mail since I don't always access it (not yet with internet at home, and here at work it's blocked due to spam mail). Then I'll get an account with an internet caf and get the delivery instructions. Or whatever.

  Blondie has my e-mail address from work (with my real name - eeeeks!) so I could always send it to her but then she may have to pay customs duties or whatever.

  This is just a thought, if no one's interested I'll just hang on to my copy!

  An opening page when people log on

  we all know that certain things happen on here frequently: some topics come up regularly, for example ("i'm dating/in love with a jw;" "oral sex;" and so on.

  is it possible to compile a list of the most frequent thread titles/subjects and post a faq page, maybe with links to a sample of past threads on topic x, and tell people to click on there rather than begin a new, already-explored topic?

  maybe a welcoming page explaining that this is an anti-jw site (the name would tend to give the opposite impression), a list of some of the rules such as bad language, duplicate accounts, trolling, an explanation of (and encouragement for using) the search feature, and other things that, again, seem to be mentioned often?

  I like the idea (somewhere on the page) of a FAQ part, sometimes I give up searching for a topic I know has been discussed before but if I don't get the exact wording or whatever I end up with 150 entries and I just don't have the time to go through them all.

  vancouver bc - backround info

  i am hoping someone out there maybe from the vancouver area and help me out......i am looking for some background info.

  during the late 70's and 80's, i was still quite young and all the bad or nasty stuff was hidden from young ears.

  i do remember though catching wind of certain scandals and mass disfellowshippings etc.....but the details were hidden from children and quietly whispered about by the adults.

  well, I'm not from Vancouver, so this may not be at all what you're after, but I know that James Penton disassociated himself (or was disfellowshipped, don't know for sure) around the late '70s, maybe 1980 or so. He wrote the book "Apocalyse Delayed" and is probably Canada's chief apostate, a title he should wear proudly. There was a tv program interviewing him and the shunning he was subjected to.

  Maybe this isn't at all what you're referring to, and maybe you already know all of the above, in which case my apologies.

  i just spent the day reading," the true believer ".eric hoffer wrote this book in 1951. i wish i had read it back in 1969!

  thanks for recommending it.i shared some points from it with a friend over the phone and he nows wants to read it too!

  I just bought the book captioned in the subject and have read your posts on it - can't wait to start readng it.

  Is this what Scott Peck calls synchronicity or serendipity? I was looking for something else and this book practically fell in my hands. Hmmm ..........

  What Makes You Enjoy Your Life?

  someone that i know well because of my business, suddenly died, while on vacation.

  i talked to his wife yesterday.

  she told me that her husband's view of life was that he wanted to enjoy life every day and that when he did die, he wanted to die in his favorite vacation spot, aruba.

  I enjoy coaching, scuba diving, cycling and friends. I enjoy pleasing myself after a lifetime to trying to please others. With age has come some selfishness.

  Sounds like balance to me, not selfishness - coaching = helping other; friends = give-and-take, not selfish.

  As for me, I enjoy my cats, my house, college classes, my job, gardening (if it ever warms up in this country), a good red wine with baguette, pt and several types of cheese, dining out in nice restaurants, going to the opera, travelling to places like Vienna and Prague, attending plays at the local theatre, reading, good coffee (my blend of Columbian, Moka Java and Arabica beans), redecorating the house, friends.
