  Anybody ever "game" the system? (get out w/o DF/DA, keep family)

  hi guys,.

  you'll recall my happy announcement that my wife has decided to join me in leaving the watchtower!

  our son has been fine with the change, and our newborn seems to accept it, too.

  If you live in a small town, I don't know how you could do it. However, if you live in a large urban centre and speak more than one language it shouldn't be too difficult. You could switch to another congregation of whatever foreign language you speak, start the fade, then switch again, say in a year or so, and complete the fade. You could even give the elders in the new hall a "fake" address to which you have moved.

  I think it would be funny to scout out a different neighbourhood, for instance if there's an area in your city which is predominantly gay and lesbian, as there is here, look to see if you can find out where the cutest/raciest/most way-out-there drag queen lives, and give that as my new address. Then, when you don't show up at the meetings and the elders ever decide to give you a shepherding visit, they'd get the surprise of their little lives!

  hello to all my friends,.

  i havent been around much lately, and i'am almost scared to post.

  i came on to give everyone a big hello and to tell everyone whats been going on in my life this past year.. mostly ive been trying to put together a normal life after the lawsuit.

  ((Vicki)) You were the victim. Your father and the WTS are the perpetrators. The legal system is a very slow machine (I'm a legal assistant in a commercial/real estate law firm), and because of that many victims don't have the courage and stamina to see things through as you are doing.

  I admire your tenacity and devotion to your family, and in doing what you can to effect change.

  (don't forget, the invitation's still on if you and the family travel through this way)

  i have been a ministerial servant for 15 years.

  after 1994-95 "generation change" and 1999 "being hit by hurricane and no wt/brothers help".

  i had serious doubts.

  Trespassing, new rules

  as the temporary book study overseer i have been handed a letter as follows:.

  upon receipt of this letter, book study overseers should review the following points with those in their groups:.

  * individual homeowners have a right to exclude people from their property by posting a "no trespassing" sign.. * if publishers call on a home or enter the grounds around a home where a "no trespassing" sign is located, they may be subject to criminal prosecution and resulting monetary sanctions and/or incarceration.

  Thanks for that info, DaCheech. I wonder how many people would put up "No Trespassing" signs on their properties if they knew that's all it takes now to get rid of JWs? Maybe we should "Advertise, Advertise, Advertise" this !

  Annual General Meeting - Bethany Hughes got a mention

  a friend i know said that his book study overseer was talking about some of the points made at the annual general meeting of jehovahs witnesses held early this month.

  he mentioned that the overseer said that bethany hughes, the young canadian girl who was forced 38 blood transfusions, was named as one of the most important people in canada in a survey.

  strangely enough, the overseer never mentioned the father or his stand against the transfusions.

  As one sister once told me a few years ago, you have to be very high up in seniority to attend.

  A dub here at work attended the annual meeting. She nad hubby are good friends of some of the bigwigs. I'll see if I can get any info from her when she's back at her desk next week.

  Strange Encounter With Dubs Just Now

  i was just up at a neighbour's place, standing at the door talking to her, when two dub ladies came up the path on what turned out to be a return visit.

  the neighbour said "not today" and hid inside and i dismissed myself, following the ladies out of the yard.

  what was strange is that they didn't acknowledge me at all, even though i was right behind them.

  It's my impression that more and more dubs are just plain worn out. Some of the elders, the ones who care a little bit about others, are running on empty. A dub told me last night that an elder in my former congregation asked "permission" of the C.O. for a four-month break; he and wife are travelling across country to get away from it all and then visit their sons and families who live on the west coast. He's in his late sixties and should be enjoying his retirement, but instead is like a walking zombie (he attended my mother's funeral).

  Many younger ones just want to have a somewhat normal life without all the guilt and pressure.

  The times sure are changing!

  I visited my elderly JW parents today

  i had been wanting to do so for quite a while.

  my parents will be 87 each next month.

  Brenda, good news! I'm glad that there will be some sort of reconciliation now that your folks are elderly, and perhaps seeing what's really important in life, like family, and not the coldhearted Watchtower society.

  The Fear of "Leaving The Truth"

  one thing i've seen on this board is that fear has been a motivator for many to stay on as witnesses.

  jws are afraid to get the elders mad at them, hurt their families.

  they're afraid to be talked about and dissected by the "brothers and sisters" because they are not considered up to par.

  Mum passed away two weeks ago

  well, i finally received that dreaded phone call from the hospital.

  mum died peacefully in her sleep two weeks ago.

  she'd been paralyzed on one side since her last stroke and could no longer swallow.

  Kaethra, you're a dear! And no, I don't think you're being harsh, in fact, it's a kindness to want to relieve someone of their suffering.

  ((Ian)) - you're absolutely right, something that belonged to mum will set me off in a heartbeat. It'll get better, I know, and all of you here on the board help tremendously. BTW, Ian, I'm going to be joining an introduction to Buddhism meditation class beginning in November. Your experiences in Buddhism, the peace you feel, your compassion towards others and your courage in dealing with your sickness have inspired me to go forward in this pursuit. I was often very curious about Buddhism, even as a dub, but your example has given me the impetus to actually do something about it. Hugs to you and Claire.
