I think our reactions to current events depends to a certain degree on how disconnected we were from Watchtower scare tactics before ever coming to a realization of the depth of their errors. As mentioned above, I would much rather be living now than in previous generations, and have felt this way for a very long time. Therefore, every time Id hear the fear - mongers going on at the KH or at assemblies about the end being near due to events in the world, I would be more irritated than afraid. Then after reading many of the posts here dealing with doctrine/ science/history, as well as many of AlanFs essays, it was as though I found my long - lost inner harmony I wasnt the one with the problem, it was THEM!!
My disconnect was rather rapid its only been since around August when I realized the truth about the troof, but a JW at work was talking to me today about various things (Im an undercover apostate at this point ) and it came around to Iraq, Korea, Afghanistan and she said this could mean the end. Well, initially I didnt have a clue what the hell she was talking about. The end of Air Canada? (the airline is in big debt); the end of soldiers lives ? which is terrible, but I know she doesnt know any soldiers so why would she bring it up? Of course, all this went through my mind in about a second until I clued in that she meant the big A. Then I thought what an idiot!
So I guess this is a round about way of saying thanks to AlanF and others for all their insights!

Franois: Please let me know where they are making 7-figure incomes - I'm taking journalism classes now at night, so would like to be in the 7-figure income bracket before I hit retirement age, which may come before I graduate from university (thank you WTS). One journalist brought in to talk to one of our classes is able to make ends meet, as a free-lance journalist, of which fact even the prof seemed to be in awe, since it's such a hand-to-mouth existence for most. Even those employed by the city's major newspapers usually moonlight with other stuff, teaching, lectures, books, whatever.
So, where do I apply for these lush jobs when I graduate (if I'm not in a wheelchair and unable to remember my name let alone what paper I'm supposed to be writing for) in the not so near future.

as it stands, i would like to keep it that way to be able to have a cordial relationship with some family (and perhaps a couple friends).
so here's a problem: at my former kh there sits in a drawer a document that could really screw me if i am in a life threatening situation.

I'm with Blondie on this one - your newest POA takes precedence; it's like a Last Will and Testament - the latest one is valid, the older ones are automatically disqualified.
Now I can't remember what I wrote (or thought I wrote) on my previous post!!! Sheesh.

I'm with Blondie on this one - it's like redoing your Last Will and Testament - once you have a new one, all other previous ones are null and void. You don't have to run around finding all the older Wills to destroy them. Make sure you talk to your doctor and also have the Emergency Contact person on your driver's license (or whatever document on which you have a "who to contact in the event of an emergency" entry) aware of your POA and give that person a copy. Automatically the POA with the latest date will take precedence. No one else has to know.

I'm so, so sorry for you! I know how horrible it is to lose a pet - even when my cat gets sick I'm a basket case.
