Good catch jgnat! Of course, becoming what the WTS describes as "apostate" would having nothing at all to do with becoming aware of doctrinal lies, protecting criminals, not displaying Christ's love, etc. etc. Oh no, it's because of greed and pride. Someone in the Writing Dept. must have been looking in a mirror.

Article in the Awake about us "Apostate Fighters"
by LuckyLucy intoday i was at work and a jw slipped a watchtower and awake in the mail slot.in the awake there is an article titled "is there an unforgivable sin?
" here is a paragraph that caught my eye.. some people who were once faithful christians have purposely drawn away from god, perhaps because of bitterness, pride, or greed, and are now "apostate fighters" against god's spirit.they willfully oppose what the spirit is clearly accomplishing.
have these induividuals committed the unforgiveable sin?

How long could you live without electricity?
by JH ini lived through the ice storm of january 97 in quebec.
i spent 1 complete day without electricity.
it was about 25f (-5c) outside, and i had no heating.

It's kind of a trick question - I mean, it would depend where you live, if you have any sort of back-up (generator, wood stove, fireplace) or whatever. During the ice storm of '98 I was in an apartment with electrical heating, so if friends hadn't had me stay at their place (my electricity was off for 5 days) during the time the temperature hit -15 Celsius, well I probably would have lived .... I dunno - a day? how long before you die of hypothermia?
If I had a fireplace, or a gas stove to be able to cook, then it's not so bad, you can still function. Now I have a house and am thinking of buying a generator for next winter.
And if you want to start a new thread, how about "how the 'loving' congregation did NOTHING to help the rank and file during the ice storm of '98", other than the elders making sure they (the elders) were okay and all accounted for .. grrrrr.....

What Do You Think About "Jehovah's" Organization?
by minimus inas witnesses, you are constantly bombarded with the expression,"jehovah's organization".... if we don't believe in jehovah's organization, we are doomed.
we must put faith in jehovah's organization.
jehovah's organization is the modern day "ark of survival"........these types of expressions have been drilled in the heads of jehovah's witnesses for decades.

Don't even know who or what "Jehovah" is or isn't these days, therefore he/she/it/they can't have an "organization". An "organization" is just made up of people, a CEO, Board of Directors, whatever. The Board of Directors of the WTS is worse than Enron or WorldCom or any other "for profit" corporation. At least those other organizations only lost people's money; they didn't make rules which killed people or caused them to commit suicide or break up families or.....
That overused cliché "Jehovah's organization" is beginning to make me ill.

Minimus!
Just read through this thread, don't know how I missed it. I'm so happy for you! I haven't read CoC yet, I will soon enough, though I've been able to piece together a few things (Malawi, Mexico) from other posters.
If she was a true-blue dub before this, it's going to be a lot for her to digest. But once opened, it's d&mn hard to close that door to enlightenment and freedom!

The "Organization is Imperfect" Fallacy
by metatron inwhen confronted with hard evidence of corruption or doctrinal error, many witnesses are now quick to assert that.
"the organization is imperfect" or "they make mistakes sometimes".
in this fashion, they can retain their extreme allegiance.

great post - concise, to the point and with devastating logic. Unfortunately, keeping its head buried in the sand will prevent the WTS from ever admitting to their bloodguilt, and much of the rank and file will do as the WTS commands them to do - shut up and keep selling those magazines!
However, posts like this will help those courageous "lurkers" to see the WTS for what it really is and perhaps start on their own road to freedom.
Thanks met!

Fred Said: "The Lion will lie with the Lamb"

Where did Freddie classify elephants?
Antelopes?
Gazelles?
How about koalas? They're so cute and cuddly, but with claws that could rip your jugular.
Or do only Freddie-defined "mean" animals get noticed? What if a mild-mannered person became violent? Can a gazelle become a lion?
How about lobsters?

LyinEyes: I understand your experience. My hometown congregation was as the one you described; small, ultra-conservative, everything not service related was a sin.
I remember in high school wanting to go to get my degree in journalism. Well, that sure didn't happen. I pioneered instead. Perhaps deep down inside I knew that I would eventually have to be true to who I am; I hated my small town and moved out as soon as possible. Of course, it was to pioneer and "serve where the need was greater", but it did eventually get me into the city. Things weren't as bad for me, in one sense, because my dad wasn't a JW. He was an alcoholic, however, so that was a whole other issue to deal with. But I did get vacations away from my home town, we visited lots of places in the U.S. (I'm Canadian), and even though my mother and I would be attending the district conventions in those cities it still gave us time to do other stuff like go to plays.
Now that I'm uh, 40-something, I'm taking journalism classes at night, but am quite aware of the fact that I probably won't be working in my dream vocation. I'm doing it for me, which is a good enough reason, I suppose . I'd also love to study Literature and Philosophy later on.
Someone else told me that Mama Mia was fabulous. I'd love to see that one.

As a JW I never pursued my interest in the Arts, and I let that part of me die. Now I am beginning to live life again, and I am picking up things that interested me when I was younger.
LyinEyes: Do you mean studying in the field of the Arts to become, say, a singer or dancer? Or just attending many cultural events? What I mean is that I was a super-dub for many years, but have attended as many operas, Broadway plays/musicals, off-Broadway plays, touring Broadway musicals, theatre, ballet, etc. as my pocketbook and vacation time would allow. Did your parents not let you attend these types of events? What about as an adult? or do you mean that as a dub, with so many things to do - service, meetings, study, etc. etc. - you were just never able to pursue your dreams? I'm just curious, I know it's easier for me to pursue what I'm interested in since I make a fairly decent salary, am single and can do basically whatever I please, rather than someone with kids and/or husband who isn't interested in the same kind of stuff.
As for your question () I'd have to say Phantom of the Opera was my favourite, even more than Les Misérables, both of which I've seen several times. I must say that the Montreal production of Les Misérables, with Robert Marien, was my favourite, and the Toronto production of Phantom (with Colm Wilkinson) was the best of the Phantoms IMHO. However, I must specify that the above-noted productions had to have those particular singers, otherwise my choices change.
My favourite play on Broadway was a couple of years back when I saw Waiting in the Wings with Lauren Bacall. However, I've always been a Bogie and Bacall fan so I am somewhat prejudiced.
Many years ago I saw My Fair Lady on Broadway with Rex Harrison. Also the play Arsenic and Old Lace with the actress who portrayed Archie Bunker's wife in All in the Family. Also, I go to the local theatre regularly. So much to do, so little time.
Sigh, if only the Canadian dollar would gain more in value next to the U.S. one, New York would see me much more often!

sharring my secrets
by kls inyou all are so special, i just finished reading the thread i posted the other day and again you all made me cry(probably girl thing) not in a bad way but in a happy way, sometimes i think i found you guys just in time.so because of your caring i would like to share my life story,no i won,t drag it on.i was raised in a home with two sisters and a brother,i was the youngest ,i am three years younger then one sister ,ten years between my other sister and twelve years younger then my brother.father was a beater, belts, boards but his favorite was his fists,i went to school with plenty of black eyes and lying were they came from.my older sister and brother were married and out of the house and very seldom visited.as kids my brother and sister were beat also so there was alot of tenson when they did visit.so with my one sister and me we take the beatings for them and hide in our rooms hoping we didn,t do any thing to irritate our parents.my mother , i swear she would blow things out of perportion just to see us get beat , i think because she was beat so offen by my dad , i would hear them in my room at night or in the day , the shit would start to fly and we just hid.my parents were both drinkers but usually it was moderate until i was about ten years old and my sister was twelve, the drinking became out of control especially for my mom, fights got more intense till it was like living in a war zone.it got to the point that my mother never left her bedroom and was drunk twentyfour hrs.
a day, not even coming out to eat.my dad ,sister and me would do the shopping and cleaning and cooking.life was ,well for my sister and me was becoming normal .then one day coming home from school ,i see the police, my older sister and brother are there..odd, they are all crying and inform me dad killed himself and they just took his body.
well , we have funeral moms drunk at , and all of a sudden everyone is gone to their own lives while my sister and me are stealing food to live.

Jonah in the belly of the fish – I mean, how could he breathe? Jehovah made an extra large air pocket inside the fish for poor ol’ Jonah?
Why did Moses not get into the Promised Land just for striking the rock yet King David could get away with literal murder?
Why the head coverings for women? because of angels? What the h&ll do they care? Talk about male insecurity, even projecting it onto angelic creatures.
Also, as dmouse wrote, history shows that previous generations were much worse off than we are. I’d rather be living now than at any other period of time – there’s better health care, less infant mortality, better working conditions, etc. Sure don’t seem like the “last days” to me.
And those silly prophetic types/antitypes in Revelation, with different conventions being the fulfillment of this time period and that time period, when even by stretching it somewhat you still didn’t end up with the date of the conventions. (Was it the three trumpet blasts or something?)
And still I believed!
