I put up with so much guilt for so long, never being good enough, always feeling bad about wanting to read about other religions, philosophy, or just take a friggin' yoga class, that I was worn out emotionally. I started to think that if this was the way things were going to be like in the new system ™, then I didn't want to be there. As well, like Blondie, I caught elders lying about something they didn't realize I was aware of. (I was at Location A with a couple in the congregation and the elders had a personal vendetta against this couple, so they tried to implicate them in something that happened in Location B, not knowing that I was an eye-witness to the whereabouts of said couple.)
I also used to think that the "truth" should be able to stand on its own, and that reading other ideas (even from those horrid apostates ) could never destroy something that is "truth".
The lack of love, the back-stabbing, the incessant gossiping and doctrinal flip-flops also were a contributing factor. But the worst was the pedophile issue and seeing how the WTS sleazebag lawyers acted.

Did Jesus Christ exist at all?
by Tyler insome of my comments (and that of others) on other threads have highlighted a basic differance between those of us who belieave jesus christ did exist, and those of us who recon he did not.
i belieave jesus as described in the gospells did not exist.
so i decided to start a thread that adresses this issue face on.

Ravyn said:
does it really matter if Jesus existed or not? I mean if we can better ourselves and our world by believing in anything---does it have to be 'proven true'? I don't believe 'truth' exists. Not like that. Seems to me Christians get hung up on the whole 'I am better than you are coz I am the ONLY TRUE religion' thing. Who cares? We can learn from fairytales and nursery rhymes--so why does Jesus HAVE to be for real? Don't we all make our own realities anyway?
I agree absolutely!

Just saw this post - I too love gardening, although am a "newbie" at it. Bought my house last year so this is the first year I've had a chance to do much with it. Where I am it's zone 5, and am trying to find good perennial groundcover that will withstand harsh winters.
Do you have any secrets as to what to plant for all-season blooms?

Have you experienced God?
by Sirona inhave you ever had an experience that you think revealed you had been visited by a divine being?
what was that experience like?
how would you know if you had encountered a "god" or "goddess"?

I’ve experienced “something”, but don’t know if it’s god, goddess, the universe, my own energy flow or anything else.
I do know that when I prayed to the “Jehovah” deity I got nothing, zip, nada. Now, during very stressful times (my mother has had a stroke and a heart attack and is still hospitalized) I have had guidance/strength/enlightenment by meditating and calling out (internally) to the universe. At times I use the words “Mother Earth” and “Father Universe”, other times I direct my meditation to the “Universe” and also to “divine Universal energy”. And I’ve been answered, in small, pragmatic ways and also in large, life and death ways (concerning my mother). Is that experiencing God or Goddess? Or is it my own internal strength that I’m able to tap into because of meditation? I tend to believe it’s the former, but am not sure at this point.
Whatever it is, it’s working and I have no intention of stopping now!

i can hardly put it down.
have you all read it?

I just finished reading COC the other day. I couldn't put it down! Is ISOCF more of the same, or is it about more religous, spiritual stuff? I'm not interested in religion any more.
Wolfgirl - I was wondering the same thing. I'm interested in CoC in order to find out about the inner workings at the top of the hierarchy, but am not into Christian or biblical interpretation.

Did you ever really fear Jehovah?
by Tower Man ini just put a new mp3 audio on my site by bill & laura althaus.
it's from 1996 at the witnesses now for jesus convention in pennsylvania.
you can hear it at: http://www.towertotruth.net/audio.htm

Jehovah was a vengeful, petty and harsh rule-maker - I was terrified of him and conflicted because I could never reconcile that way of seeing him with the verse "God is love".
Now I am a very happy agnostic.

This place has probably saved my sanity! I received so many answers to so many doubts - about the WTS, myself, was I right/wrong/wicked/crazy - then I find this site and read so many other experiences and it has been absolutely liberating for me!
THANK YOU SIMON!!! (and Minimus for the question )
