  Worlds Apart

  we are just back from watching worlds apart.

  we all thought that this is the best, most accurate movie on this topic that we have ever seen.

  i hope to post more on it once i've gotten some rest.

  I saw the movie Friday night. The producer came out and talked to the audience afterward and took questions. He really did his homework.

  Couple of very interesting things; apparently Sara still talks to her mother who is still hanging in as a JW to stay in touch with her younger kids. Teis was interviewed about the movie, and while his fiance was obviously not happy about a movie being made about his ex, he said it was a story that should be told. He is now married.

  Sara broke up with Teis because she needed to stand on her own feet to find herself, but it took place over a longer period of time than in the movie.

  The best of all; in the last scene in the train car, there was another woman in the same car and she smiled at the actress playing Sara, that WAS the real Sara!

  Any of you who may get to see it in the future, keep your eyes open for that.

  It was fabulous.

  (And the people in my audience gasped too at the elders questions about sex.)

  Watching an addicted brain is fun! (quitting smoking)

  so i'm quitting smoking.

  it's no biggee, i've done it before... .

  no seriously, i smoked my last one at lunch.

  With this whole "plain of life without cigs" ... don't do that!

  I am quit one year next Wednesday (yay for me), and I had to have the mindset of "one day at a time." (Sometimes even 1 hour at a time, at first.)

  The thought of never smoking again upset me so greatly, I couldn't go there. I told myself if I really, really wanted to smoke, I could. I said, "I know I can not smoke today, if I absolutely have to, I can have one tomorrow." I kept cigs in the house for the first 2 months. You'd be surprised how quickly those "one days" add up, and before I knew it I was 3 months quit and threw the packs away.

  Now I can't stand the smell of it anymore.

  Help with Kittens

  let me start by saying that i am a huge animal lover.

  i have a dog, a cat and i recently lost a cat who was very old.

  yesterday, my fiancee was working on his house and as he was doing "demo work", he found a nest of kittens.

  How to get rid of fleas:

  At night, place a low bowl of dish-soapy water on the floor next to a lamp not too far from the kittens. Fleas will be attracted to the light and jump in the water and get caught in the soap and drown.

  she decided to run it past my grandma (who had rode with us). She wouldn't leave, so my mom spent the whole day running me to the restroom

  I'd have told her, "Good luck finding a ride home!" That would've gotten her up pretty quick.

  Smokers - How do you justify it to yourself?

  i've been smoking since i quit being a witness.

  i smoked for a week when i was 15, i quit when i started studying.

  my "smoking" then was only a few cigarettes, i was by no means addicted.

  I am 4 months quit this Saturday.

  After smoking for 25 years, I thought I couldn't do it. I hate being told I HAVE to do something.

  I got really sick in October (bad cold, lots of coughing) and was taking a drag of my ciggie and it hurt, it hurt SO much I got really, really scared. I said "What the f*** am I DOING???" So I got the patch and put it on (figuring if I was gonna be sick it would be worse to be sick AND have nicotine withdrawal.) After 3 days the patch was making me sick (nausea, insomnia.) So I took it off and decided to tough out the 3 day withdrawal.

  Then I told my MIL I was quitting smoking and she said, "Ha! As soon as you stop coughing you'll light up again." That infuriated me and so partly to prove her wrong here I am 4 months later. The smell makes me sick now. How did I ever do that for 25 years?

  2 days in NY, 2 days in LA, what do you do?

  guys and girls, mrs slh and i are emigrating to the promised land of australia in august and the cheapest way to get there with the best luggage allowance is via the us.

  as it's a round the world ticket we can stop twice on the way and have decided to spend 2 days in ny and 2 days in la.

  so, we've got limited time and don't want to spend an absolute fortune (so disneyland is out).

  Ah, the big apple.

  It's hard to find an affordable hotel right in Manhattan but it's doable. Try Orbitz for that.

  What to see? The top of the Empire State building is outstanding. Also, the Bronx Zoo, Bronx Botanical Garden and the Brooklyn Aquarium are lots of fun.

  A trip to Rockefeller Center to see the famous Wollman Rink is fun, and of course all the museums are worth going to. The Museum of Modern Art is very close to Rockefeller Center at 6th Ave. and 53rd Street. The Museum of Natural History is great too, right across the street from Central Park on the Upper West Side if you want to see that too.

  If you can afford it, take in a Broadway show. There's a half-price ticket kiosk in Times Square where you can pick up last-minute tickets to that day's performances for half price if you don't mind about 45 minutes to an hour in line. It's not a bad wait, lots to gawk at while you stand there.

  A ride on the Staten Island Ferry (free) is a must-do if you want to get close to the Statue of Liberty to get great pictures. I wouldn't recommend taking the Statue's own tour if you've only got 2 days. Downtown, near the SI Ferry, is the Fulton Fish market with great shops and restaurants and ships you can actually go on and look around in.

  A visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral (also free) is absolutely fascinating, with all the gold and marble and expensive art. If you look under the altar from the back you can see the tombs of all the cardinals who have presided there. That is also right near Rockefeller Center.

  Theocratic Warfare/What's Up With That?

  i hear all the talk about theocratic warfare and all it's implications.

  what exactly constitutes theocratic warfare, and if it entails lying, as i've heard it to be, how do they justify it?

  How long since you been out in service?

  it must be about 13 years since i went out in service.

  about 15 years since i went out a couple times a month, and about 18 years since i went at least once a week.. i just can't imagine going from door to door anymore.

  but to think that we all did it for quite awhile.
