Is this spreading conflict, War, in Syria and Iraq, inevitable and some argue necessary.
I agree it is, to some extent, inevitable, as a result of the waning of US military power and economic influence (and by extension, Western influence as a whole). Some of it seems to be the result of US efforts to hold on to the power and position they had. And some of it the result of other nations and factions seeing an opportunity opening up for them.
The order of the world is changing. The post-WWII pax-Americana may be coming to an end. I don't see any other nation (at the moment, China included) that is interested (or capable - at this time) in becoming the world's 'policeman' (or that even wants to be).
Focusing on the Middle East, some of the conflict may be related to the US' effort to hold on to the 'petro-dollar,' and some on religious aspirations.

Convention Hotel "list"- Free rooms for JW/WT "dignitaries"?
by Darth Fader The Sequel inin all my years of being a jw, one of the more annoying aspects to me was each year sitting through the service meeting review part about what was expected (see: demanded) behavior and policies that the rest of us rank and file were ordered to comply with to attend a district convention.
the minutia in this part and the over-reaching set of rules were enough to drive me into a lather of rage at the audacity of these people thinking they could and should control every single aspect of my attendance to this "free" and voluntary convention.
from what clothing i can wear on my trip to and from the convention city, to what clothing i can wear before and after each day of the convention, to what i should be doing after each day instead of eating dinner and enjoying some good times with good friends, to insisting on wearing a ridiculous name badge, to what i should eat for lunch and where i should eat lunch and what is the appropriate container to keep my lunch in, to .................. the list is endless!!!!!!!!

After I had started waking up I would always book using a different dicounter, such as ChoiceHotels. I would usually stay in the same hotel as the friends, but at 10 or 12 $ less per night than they were.
Interestingly, I never made it a secret that I did this and I never received any flack for it. It seemed that as long as I was using the hotel on the list, well, I was "obeying." Fact is, using a different discount was the same as using a hotel not on the list. But no one seemed to figure that out. Occasionally, in my area, they do have a rate that is competitive with what I could get, at a hotel I feel like staying at. But the way I feel now towards them, I'm willing to pay a little extra just to not further their ends.
For the OP, I the same, I despise the WT's disingeniousness. They are misusing their authority. (2 Pet 2:3) They deserve the contempt they should get.
By the way, I always make sure to point the friends to the small print disclaimer at the very end of the lodging list that says using any hotel on the list is at the users own risk. I take that disclaimer as permission to not use the list if I so choose.
This reminds me of an occasion when I was still an elder. A brother confided in me how guilty he felt that he had to use a hotel not on the list due to financial reasons. Often the discount hotels will not offer the WT a reduced rate under the auspices that they already offer a discount rate. Thus, they end up not being on the list. Being on the list is driven by the Society's needs, not ours. I told the brother that he was in charge of his finances (Acts 5:3, 4) and responsible for housing his family (1 Tim 5:8), so not to worry about it. He looked kind of perplexed at me. I think he was expecting some forgiveness for his "sin," rather than be told he did not "sin" at all.

Anyone know of any work arounds for problems downloading with sendspace? I get any where from 30 - 50 mb downloaded (at 70 - 76 kb/s) and then it tails off to an "unknown network error." Downloading again starts from the beginning, which then fails after 30 - 50 mb.
(I mean a workaround short of paying for a sendspace subscription.)
Incidentally, Chrome's download resume feature does not work with Sendspace. I think Sendspace wants it that way.
Edited to add:
I know . . . I'm cheap.

The Gibbering Baboons live in a style and manner to achieve which an annual income, post tax, of, at a minimum, several hundred thousand dollars would be required to maintain. Milton Henschel, may the scum rot, was careless and let some of this slip out. Now, the villains are far, far more cautious. The precautions taken are enormous.
Focus, do you have some more info or a link that enlarges on this?
Thank you for any further info in advance.

Neither the term "Watch Tower" nor the name "Jehovah's witnesses" come from Jehovah's Witnesses
by Kenneson inthe term "watch tower" originated with the second adventists and was a carry over by charles taze russell to his own religious periodical and society.
even the proclaimers book admits as much.
in the footnote we read: "the expression 'watch tower' is not unique to russell's writings or to jehovah's witnesses.

Is that the same "Darby" that translated the Bible (Darby Translation)? His translation uses "Jehovah" throughout the OT and he has numerous footnotes in the NT where he thought "Lord" meant "Jehovah."
This thread opens up some of the things that influenced Russell & Rutherford.
