a major cme or flare could wipe out civilization by destroying power grids everywhere.. this is why i get so angry about global warming hysteria - there are far more serious threats that could emerge in months, not decades ahead.. i also understand that a small asteroid is scheduled to come breathtakingly close to hitting earth in two years.

People are turning away from Babylon the Great?
by TheStumbler ini was having a casual conversation with a jw family member yesterday and he mentioned some documentary he had recently watched about the catholic church and its cover up of the child sexual abuse scandal in ireland.
he commented that the church is losing the political influence and control it once had in ireland and that the bible (revelation) prophesised that before the end, people would turn away from babylon the great (false religion).. .
i disagreed and said that i saw no evidence that people are turning away from religion on a global level.

Now unless Jesus has a common insult that he uses on anybody he doesnt like, you can identify BTG from Jesus words to the Jewish leaders of Jerusalem in Matthew 23 where he accuses them of baring the blood of all those slain on the Earth, with Revelation 18, the last verse where it says BTG has the blood of all those slain on the Earth and the Prophets.
"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who killed the Prophets", not, Rome Rome the one who killed the prophets.
I work in government, I can assure you religion does not any longer "rule over the kings of the Earth" and it probably hasnt done since the Middle Ages.

Ten years later, where are they now? Youngsters moving to London where the ministry is more exciting
by truthseeker inabout 10-12 years ago, some of the young pioneers in my hall moved to london because they thought the ministry would be more exciting than the poorly supported field service groups in my sleep town in sussex.. i was thinking the other day what became of them.
i know that one is now an elder and married, the other one i'm not so sure about.. one of my relatives once said that the truth is more exciting in london, people are warmer, there's more opportunities for young witnesses.. if you lived in the uk, perhaps in the south of england, was it a fad for some of the youth to move to london where they thought the ministry was more exciting?
have they left or are they still in?.

1990 A trend started in the North Surrey congregation I was in to move just along the road to Croydon, it was considered that as it was far more multicultural, there would be a lot more quality ministry to do,
I used to occasionally accompany a Pioneer on the field service there but do not recall the work being as good as our home congregation which being in a rich area, had a lot more housewives at home.
As for friendlyness, I attended a meeting at Streatham which is predominantly black, they had someone playing a real piano and the singing was really hearty, afterwards a really friendly Latin family took us back to their house.
I was more looking to move to Ireland for the work but then the oppurtunity confronted me to move to the grim North instead.
Cannot say I know whats happened to them now though, I hardly see any Witnesses ever, being as I live well over 1/2 a mile away from 5 Kingdom halls, last I heard, a lot of the big personalities had left or "apostacised".

Sorry, You are correct in your assumption of the Watchtower notion of the identity of Babylon the Great, they want to be the only Christians in the world so they assign meanings to scripture to fit thier view of the world.
Here now though, we are free of their doctrines and so can consider more plausible explainations for the Revelation.

Only fault being, Babylon the Great isnt Christendom, its Judaism, it isnt Rome its Jerusalem. Compare Matthew 23 with Revelation 18 v 24

Around 1992 I visited a congregation in the North East of England where a sister made this woman look pale, her skin was on the verge of being as black as an African, I couldnt belive a white girl could go that dark, she was young so she looked quite good, not saying she had an obsession like this woman, maybe she just come back from a long holiday somewhere very hot.

The permanantly postponed expectation of meeting a lovely Sister to marry made my heart far sicker than a postponed Armeggedon,
In fact I was quite worried the New System was going to come before I met Sister Right if they where correct about there being no marriage in the New World, I just didnt feel petting Lions was going to fullfill my emotional needs.

A JW's Comment Regarding The Magazine downsizing
by Bangalore inon one of those pro-jw message boards there was a small discussion about the magazine downsizing.here is one comment that stood out.. .
though the special letter read, mentioned printing, paper and the cost of presses has led to a reduction in the number of pages in the public issues of the magazines, it makes me wonder- hummmm.
the message to the public will now be shorter - and more than likely more direct.

Maybe the Organisation now realises they have not been chosen by Jesus, that they are indeed a false prophet, so they are quietly winding up operations, whist they sell the Kingdom Halls built and paid for by locals, whilst they get to keep all the money, and do a runner, then one Sunday Morning, all the worlds Witnesses turn up at the Kingdom halls to find a notice of eviction pinned on the door signed by the GB with the single word "Bye!"

What if Adam knew his wife, before the sin?
by Nambo ini sometimes wonder how things would have been if adam and eve had procreated before eating from the tree of knowledge, and the ramifications of such.. if any children didnt also eat of the tree, would we now have two groups of humans on earth, one perfect and living forever, and us.. would god have split the two classes of human, putting eden on another planet or dimension or such?.
does this indicate that its all deliberate, that god knew satans plan so let the play unfold before letting adam and eve know each other?.
or does it just mean that satan was allready corrupted and wanted to get his deed done at the very beggining to ensuer he had everyone?.

Interesting stuff OGD, though it would take me a lot of working out to see if it harmonises with the rest of the Bible and the Ransom sacrifice.
Even if it isnt quite literal, but an analogy, would my initial musings still be valid?, for I have a further idea.
As has been pointed out, God surely must have known what was going to happen, so he could have destroyed Satan first and prevented all this?, he surely prevented reproduction in order to ovoid the complications I mentioned, so how about this:-
The Issue of soverignty or whatever, had allready been raised in the Spirit Realm before the material creation.
The material creation, namely, us, was formed for the express purpose of demonstrating the issues Satan had raised?
Not saying the scripture that says something about us being on a stage acting out a play in front of the Angels, supports this, anybody else rememeber this scripture better than I?, I would say its probably from Acts but that would probably be a pun.
