The watchtower is making some dangerous enemies
by 20yearfader inthis weekend i spent time with a friend that i haven't seen since high school, that would be 22 years.he grew up the same way i did being a born in.he and i both received our share of beatings related to the wt org coming to the hall without a song book not getting a comment low hours in field service etc....where we differ is the fact that his stepdad was beating him with his fist i got the belt or a stick.he would come to school with black eyes due to his infractions with the hall.after we left schoo we lost touch since he was still living at home an going to the meetings and i wasn't, kicked out at 17 so that ending my time with the org.he stayed at home until 21 still getting his fair share of beatings due to any sort of failing that had to do with the org.he left after one beating and joined the marines,he was dfed.while in the marines he told me he asked an got sniper training becoming a deadly shot,he also told me he always volunteered for the most dangerous missions.i can see that he was doing this to escape the pain of his upbringing even to his subconscious mind secrectly hoping to die on one of these missions.he tells me he has some sort of nerve disability that will progress until he cant walk,he has hearing loss due to a grenade going off by his head'he knows one day he will be in a wheelchair disabled it's only a matter of time.he hasn't spoke to his mother and his family in over 20 years they care nothing about him not even returning the calls he leaves on there answering machine,he told me he calls once a month for the past 20 years.sitting here at my house he says out of the clear blue you know i've thought a lot about going to brooklyn and with the skills i have i could do a lot of damage to those men that have ruined my life.i talked him out of it i think,i told him about this site where he could come to vent, because i think he needs to vent badly.i don't know what will happen to him when he is told his quality of life will get worse and if he will revisit the idea of lashing out at what he thinks has ruin his life,i don't know what he will do and even though i think i talked him out of doing anything, can i really say i blame him.i'm in the same boat my family is fractured broken all because of some men,men in brooklyn that hold more control over my family than i can,i wonder do thay ever think about the countless people that they affect with there shunning methods how many broken families they leave in there wake.i will say one thing there are many others out there that think the way my friend does i feel it's only a matter of time before karma comes a knocking..

*** w739/15p.557WhatKindofTrainingDoChildrenNeed?***
21 God is man’s Creator. There is no higher authority. His Word is very clear on the matter. It says: "Do not hold back discipline from the mere boy. In case you beat him with the rod, he will not die. With the rod you yourself should beat him, that you may deliver his very soul from Sheol [the grave] itself." (Prov. 23:13, 14) The life of the child is at stake. If he is allowed to pursue a wrong course, it will lead to his own unhappiness and eventual death outside God’s favor. Thus the Bible says: "The one holding back his rod is hating his son, but the one loving him is he that does look for him with discipline." (Prov. 13:24) It shows real love on the part of a parent to do whatever he can to correct his child, including spanking him. This is God’s way. "For whom Jehovah loves," the scripture says, "he disciplines; in fact, he scourges [whips or lashes] every one whom he receives as a son. ***w541/15p.54DiscipliningChildrenforLife***Sometimes, though parents give the proper instruction and set the proper example, children refuse to obey. That brings us to discipline, and forces a facing of that hotly controversial question: to spank or not to spank.
2 Many child psychologists put a "hands off" sign on children, as did one who said: "Do you mothers realize that every time you spank your child you show that you are hating your child?" Jehovah says: "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him." A spanking may be a lifesaver to a child, for Jehovah says: "Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. If you beat him with the rod you will save his life from Sheol." Again, "Blows that wound cleanse away evil; strokes make clean the innermost parts." It is Jehovah who can peer into the innermost parts of men and children, and at one time, typical of our day, he did this and saw: "The inclination of the heart of man is bad from his youth up." The remedy? "Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him." ***g795/8p.27ShouldChildrenBeSpanked?***But does loving discipline include a parent’s use of spanking? According to God’s Word, it definitely can, whenthespankingisanexpressionofandinamannerconsistentwithlove. Consider these verses from the inspired book of Proverbs:
"Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him." (22:15) "Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die. Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death." (23:13, 14) "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him." (13:24)—NewInternationalVersion.
While such references to the "rod" could cover various forms of discipline from parents, physical chastisement is certainly included. Whether they do it with the hand, a wooden ruler or some other type of appropriate "rod," parents are authorized by God to use spanking in lovingly disciplining their children.

BEAT that Child!
by Farkel inthis is sort of a continuation of threads on dubs and how they are conditioned to discipline their children.
someone questioned whether the society actually encouraged dubs to whup their children.
i only had enough time to dig up a few salient quotes from the wt magazine.

Recovering I'm sorry to hear that. I never got therapy but I vividly remember being beaten at the Kingdom Hall outside in front of freeway traffic and then later in the bathroom. I would be beaten so severely on my bare ass that I would not be able to take a breath or scream out. I remember waking up in a puddle of piss after having passed out with several brothers and sisters standing above me. As I got older I would get the belt, the spoon with holes, a switch off the tree in the front yard, a 2 x 4, a bat, and my guitar over my head.
I have three children and I have never given them any physical corporal punishment. They are all great kids.
It saddens me to think my mom felt I was ever deserving of that type of abuse. I would talk to her about it but she is dead.

When a child is injured during a spanking, criminal charges come into play. Police and Child Protective Services say that parents who choose to spank their children must use good judgment or pay the consequences.
"What we're looking at is if there is an injury or significant threat of injury," said Christy Smith, senior social worker supervisor with Newport News Human Services Child Protective Services unit. "The more instruments that are used, the higher the chance that an injury could result."
Items that pose a high risk for injury during spanking include belts, extension cords and the wand-like piece used to open and close window blinds, Smith said.
"The parent may not realize what kind of force they are using," Smith said.
If Child Protective Services receives a report of an injury, it must respond within 24 hours. If there is a threat of injury, it responds within five days.
Smith said parents should use whatever form of discipline that is not going to hurt the child physically and that will be most effective. Typically what works better with kids is consistent punishment, such as taking away their privileges, she said.
Some parents use spanking in addition to other forms of discipline.
"Spanking is permissible in certain situations. Once you start spanking to the point where you can injure someone, you should stop," said Greg Henderson, a Newport News resident. "I'm from the old school. Spanking taught me a lot of lessons. If I did something wrong, I didn't think of doing it again."

I would suspect that any literary work of fiction produced by a JW publisher could be scrutinized and attacked by any elder body. What if the story contained issues like fraud, extortion, violence, child abuse, drug use, suggestive flirtation, magic, divination, the supernatural, etc. etc.
Why the hang up for these elders on sexual themes and language? JWs are so sexually repressed the elders must feel compelled when they see something that is tapping into pushing the barriers on the theme.
What is ironic, something they tried to quash is now blazing the internet and bringing more attention to the issue AMONGST them and their absurdities.

I find it incredulous that these two elders felt it necessary to engage in a biblical tug of war debating "principles" of the bible as they related to a WORK OF FICTION.
It is an artistic and creative work of literature. It is the expression of someone's imagination not an indictment of their personal activities. THIS MEETING was formed over a personal agenda because of disdain for the individuals or their creative works.
The twisiting and spin on the scriptures in an effort to vilify the author of the FICTIONAL work is abhorrent.
When I was serving as an elder I was brought before a committee for the art that I produced. I majored in art through HS and C. One zealous MS was shocked at the number of "nudes" that were displayed in my studio. He took it to the elders.
Needless to say, those elders tried their best to vilify my artwork and after lengthy debate realized they had no leg to stand on. The only point they tried to stick with me in the end was the propensity to "stumble others" my artwork would have.
In the end the elders(with an obscene amount of persuasive debate from me) decided there was really nothing for them to do. They simply asked me to keep my artwork private from those in the congregation.
Years later I learned while doing some work on one of these elders homes that the PO that sat on my JC was also an artist who painted abstract nudes like Picasso. I found his open files of pornographic magazines used for referrence very telling. When I confronted him about, he shrugged his shoulders and said, "Well I keep my work very low profile, it is just a hobby."
This Cult produces some of the craziest assholes I've ever known.

Elder left a calling card - what's with that?
by Julia Orwell inhe called me a week or two ago offering 'assistance' and told me he'd pop by some time with 'a packet of biscuits' and i told him to ring before he came so as not to show up unannounced.
we went out yesterday, and this morning i find a little business card-sized calling card obviously printed up on ms word and cut with scissors.
on it is printed, "sorry i missed you," and has his name and number, and the scripture from romans saying something about an interchange of encouragement.. pretty inoccuous right?

It is stressful, because you don't know where it will lead to. It's like process servers trying to hunt you down.
Try and keep a low profile and offer little to no communication.
Hubby, the beard and hair says he is less stressed than you. ;)
