  When you were a JW, Did you think Prayers did any good?

  the missing 21 year old woman in oregon got me thinking...so many jws comment on her fb page 'praying for you'...'constant daily prayers' etc.

  what is the point?

  i know it is a natural human emotion, to want to contribute in some small way when something bad happens.

  Prayer for me was close to meditation and self examination. It was something I was trained to do from infancy. Prayer in times of turmoil provided me with inner strength and a better mindset to take personal action. I prayed with people all the time at the drop of a hat. During Elders meetings when things would get contentious I would insist on stopping to pray. I would fall asleep at night praying. I would challenge others on their lack of prayer specifically the other elders who were obvious douchebags. I used prayer like a weapon. If someone questioned me about something I said that they didn't agree with, I would say let's pray about it right now.

  Yeah, I was over the top.

  If all the JWs praying for Whitney and doing their best to help Law Enforcement would put the same effort into eradicating the pedophiles in their congregations I would be more impressed.

  Words and supplication are cheap.

  i'm an ms (accounts servant) in a large congregation in canada.

  Sarcasm is hard to type. Rule of thumb, you will not survive here if overly sensitive. Don't show your cards by calling people out and giving them the satisfaction that they are getting under your skin.

  i have noticed that there is a lot of angst directed towards believers and non believers so i thought i would make a thread explaining how it all works from my own perspective.

  the reality is that neither believers nor unbelievers are right or wrong, they simply are, if that makes sense.

  to better understand the perspective ideologies i have constructed a map so to speak of how it all works.. the fact is that we are all products of our environment, we cannot escape this at first, but we can eventually, but first we have to accept that we were first a product of our environment.

  Yet all three mentioned in your post title all seem to retain very personal identities. The athiest seems to do it without the faith in a diety who is thought to be a helper thus diluting the singular or personal identity. hmmmmm

  I do my daily lines of coke, screw hookers, smoke weed, beat my wife and party all the time (you know all the things disfellowshipped folks are supposed to do).

  Current JWs do all that stuff too. They just try not to get caught.

  Im confused,

  If we don't believe there is a God and we don't believe in the Athiest stance there is no God.....how are we labeled by society. Is that Agnostic? To me agnosticism always left the possibility that the existence of God is a possibility. Isnt that putting faith in the unknown.......sheesh

  Thanks for the show. I enjoyed it. Seems like Bill is focusing in on Child Custody cases. Would be great to have him as a guest again in the future. It was a very special treat to have Kathleen Conti call in. You can tell the amount of passion she has to get WT to change its stance on Child Sex Abuse. Words like "arrogant" "bullies" were aptly applied to the WT organization. Their blatant disregard to treat victims as human beings was telling as well. The fact that the WT repeatedly lied in deliberations and in court was also not surprising.

  Hey maybe you could get Kathleen as a Guest on the show? Would be awesome.....
