Prime, if disfellowshipping is not a damaging practice, then why do some individuals make reference to it in their suicide letters?

There are more Jehovah's Witnesses in Portugal than there are Scientologists in the whole world
by cedars init would be nice if this little nougat of information could be more widely known - especially by journalists.. the quoted figures for scientology are taken from tony ortega's 2011 article in the village voice, which quotes former scientology pr executive jeff hawkins as saying.... "i know that event attendance internationally was somewhere in the region of 25,000 to 35,000. the international 'bodies in the shop' (people actually in the orgs that week for service) was 16,000 to 18,000. ias was struggling to get 40,000 members.
based on this and a lot of other information i was privy to, i estimate the actual number of scientologists at a maximum of 40,000. that's on the high side.".
portugal is one of 33 countries with more than 40,000 active jehovah's witnesses - demonstrating the gulf in size between the two faiths.. the following list shows all countries with more than 40,000 jws according to their reported peak publishers for 2013.. .

Observations:
The large majority getting baptized in my areas are children of active JWs. I would estimate those from "the field ministry" at less than 10%
Also in three large counties of California: Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara- the Mormons are far more active and visible. Within school districts they out number JW kids 10 to 1 and can be seen walking to "morning worship" at 6am every day before school starts. Considering how few Mormons are required to go door to door compared to the JWs, it is remarkable that they can be seen doing so far more regularly than the JWs.
Not refuting what Slimboy says, but thought the observations might be similar to what others have seen.

Can Anointed Members Be Disfellowshiped?
by Cold Steel insince the anointed class used to be the faithful and discreet slave, i wondered if and how they can be disciplined through being disfellowshiped?
aren't they given a little more latitude in how they interpret scriptures and in what they say?
do people in kingdom halls who have anointed members defer to them in any way?

When I was in my early 20s an elderly African American sister was DFd around age 70.
Not to get off thread direction, but have to share: I was acquainted with a brother at a young age @ 16 or so. He was baptized at 18 and would travel around and was quite the ladies man amongst many circuits. He remained single into his late 30s when he married a DFd sister who had left her JW husband. He was subsequently DFd and they both remained so together for 2 years until they were reinstated a short time ago. He is in his mid 40s and she is mid 30s.
Last year and this year he partook of the emblems at memorial.
I can't really get a bearing on if he is of the conscious class or just screwing around because he can. They both put in an extraordinary amount of effort to get reinstated. They both have no aversion to communicating with faders, DFd or DAd either. Both have many family members still in, I assume that was the reason they went back.
Numbers indicate there are more and more following the same pattern, get back in and claim annointed.

It is a tragic story. These men and women are truly brave in what they do. They all attempted to use special foil blankets to protect themselves. The survivor from what I have heard on news reports was the "spotter" It was his job to survey what was happening and maneuver the firefighters when needed. I imagine this is hitting him extremely hard.

Mourning a child
by dissonance_resolved ini attended a funeral today for a small child, whose death was an unspeakable tragedy.
it was my first non-jw funeral and indeed the first time i'd ever been in a church.
i couldn't even comprehend what the parents must be going through.

I had the same experience as you described last year. It is something that will stay with me always. In like manner I have attended funerals for military, police and firefighters and the procession was also incredibly moving. It made me realize the numbness I have suffered my entire life as individuals passed away and were exploited by the JWs, including both my parents.
Thank you for sharing.

by Newly Enlightened init's only about 8 minutes long.
but he brings up the child abuse policies and cover ups and was disfellowshipped for being an 'apostate & liar'.
it's pretty good:.

Excellent, concise and to the point. This is information presented in a way that I would not hesitate to share even with a child in an effort to show them possible danger for them within the JW congregation.

Rumor: April 3, 2015 start of Great Tribulation?
by Londo111 inon another forum, somebody mentioned that there is a growing belief with those high up in watchtower hierarchy that the great tribulation will begin april 3, 2015. evidently, one has to check the skycharts for that date and compare with 33 ceand also compare with the history of jws for past 40, 80, 120 years.
dont ask me to verify the rumor...these things come and go.
im sure lots of people in hq believe all sorts of things.. .

Would that be the 101st "service year" since 1914? I wouldn't doubt these rumors flying around, they have to latch on to something to keep themselves going.

If an organization is being held to a level of accountability that no one else is subject to, there's obviously injustice in such a procedure and interpretation of the law.
If that organization is taking on actions of accountability that no other organization has done or is being called out for then justice is served when precedent is set.
That organization's policies must be amended and other organizations that could fall under the same scrutiny will also have to follow suit.

2013 DC Friday talk called "Believe Inspired Truth, Not Inspired Error." Outline points out how child abusers can be cured and anyone saying different are the devils agents.
This is in contrast to WT position inferred in the Awake! reference above under "Is there a cure" as well as others.
