Thought Reform and the Psychology of the 'Safeguard Your Heart!' 2012 Convention

to make attendance at my second district convention "mentally out" both a little more bearable and meaningful, i decided to take some notes of key points as if i were an outsider studying the thought reform methods of jehovah's witnesses.

at first, i was only going to share these notes with my therapist, but inspired by the "parsing the watchtower double-speak" thread, i figured i would share my amateur analysis with everyone.

wt wields extremely powerful mind ctrl on 7million people. sometimes i wonder how many people would jump off a cliff or take poison like with jonestown if they were told to. heck if they told them to go kill evil worldlies and they gave a bible citation from the old testiment about how the isrealites killed the canaanites would they blindly turn into murderous maniacs. oh wait we are supposed to let jehovah do that! umm i think all they would have to do is say thatjehover is now using them to be gods punishers instead of preachers. i think if they said ok this it the great tribulation is here now go kill some apostates they would do it! i mean seriously am i too far off considering islamic extremist actions?!

okage I was very impressed with your line of thought here. Anyone with a brain can see what is wrong at this point on some level. There is no excuse. The elders know something is seriously wrong with the leadership by this point. The Fear runs very deep and many have quite a lot to lose if they were to speak against the leadership. This is where the couragious are separated from the cowards. Unfortunately I think most are spineless cowards.

Views on the Creation of the Universe

i was thinking the other day about the fascinating dichotomy of how the creation of the universe plays a role in the belief system of believers and non-believers.

it is the difference between a top-down vs. bottom-up view of reality.

in this post i'm mainly disucssing highly rational, scientific type believers and non-believers, open to fully exploring their belief system, of which i have talked to many.. to the non-believer, the creation event, the big bang, is the one utterly unexplainable event.

Where does free will end?

our rights, our justice system, and democracy depends on the concept that we have free will.

this extends all the way to those of us who spurn convention to live an off-beat life.

our constitution (us), charter of rights (canada), do not enshrine convention, they enshrine freedom.

that's the latest i heard at the current convention i'm attending now.

it came straight from the bethel representative.

i was in the administration department when i heard him say it.. part of the reason for this according to him will be to reduce distribution cost as it would be virtually eliminated in countries like the u.s, canada.

alanv I agree it is very encouraging indeed! You can't control the internet or courosity 100%. Even the most innocent google searches will bring xJW/Apostate sites up. I liken it to the big red acme button that says "Dont Push!" on it. Of course they are gonna push it!!
