This election is going to be one for the history books. Not to be missed. I am hoping my 15 year old will watch it with me. She's not too into it unless we get into a discussion about it.

Polls Vs. Crowds
by minimus inwhen i see polls suggesting trump has a 95% chance to lose the presidency, according to drudge report, which is now totally liberal, and i see the huge crowds of trump supporters as opposed to the 20 people showing up for biden rallies, i have to wonder what i should believe.
do i believe my lying eyes or am i totally messed up?.

Is the WT changing the 1914 teaching now?
by nonjwspouse ini've been absent from the forum for about 10 months while deep into a divorce and working long hours.i heard mention in another thread about a change in 1914. is this actually being taught?
i'm very curious.
a extended non jw family member of my soon to be ex spouse finally decided to really do the deep investigation on the jw, and is in the phase of wanting to "ask the direct questions" and inform them of the facts of the jws.

A extended non jw family member of my soon to be ex spouse finally decided to really do the deep investigation on the JW, and is in the phase of wanting to "ask the direct questions" and inform them of the facts of the JWs. Of course this is causing major rifts. I'm trying to slow this down for the sake of family harmony. It is a close family that would devastate them if "forced" to estrange or shun.
I am thankful that even though I am divorcing their son, his parents ( some JW some not) and other family members are treating me good, like they have always done.
The teaching of 1914 was one of the topics I tried to "discuss" with my soon to be ex, many years ago. Of course he would parrot, or ignore. He had no understanding of what was being taught, ( who does?!)
I knew in my own predictions about this organization that 1914 had to be changed eventually. I wondered how they would do it.
It's nice to see the familiar names here still generously helping others. :-)

Is it because of Pride or Loyalty?
by joey jojo inin a recent effort to entice me back to meetings, an elder friend gave me the example of his dad.. he said that his pioneer/elder/ex-missionary dad went through the anticipation and disappointment of 1975 and yet, he kept going faithfully for decades afterwards.
the obvious point was that, if his dad can deal with disappointment, then, surely a nobody like me could do the same in regards to the scrapping of the 1914 generation doctrine, and all the other changes.
his 'encouragement' was to tell me that it was only me that felt like this, everyone else is fine and have no problems with the changes.

I have not been in here for about 10 months. I'm deep into the process of divorcing the abusive JW wannabe. I gave it my all, for way too many years, and recognized, finally, I stayed way too long.
Anyway, is the WT now changing the teaching of 1914? please fill me in.

Which songs give you goosebumps?
by LoveUniHateExams ini don't know if this topic has been covered before - it might 've been.. i also recommend flipper's excellent music thread ('what songs have you been listening to?
', or similar).. but, i'd just like to start a thread about certain songs giving me goosebumps.
y'know, when you hear a song that profoundly effects you in some difficult-to-describe way and the hairs on your arm stand on end even though the room temperature's comfortably warm.. so, which songs give you goosebumps?.

The sky is falling- maybe
by joey jojo ini am actually not a 'sky is falling' guy, but i wanted to comment on the australian bushfires.. you may or may not believe the science behind global warming, however i personally put more faith in verified, scientific data than the words of fat cat, self-serving politicians.
climate science has predicted, based on data, that we will see more prolonged, extreme weather events, higher average temperatures, rising sea levels due to ocean expansion and glacial melting.
and this is exactly whats happening.

Climate change is real and has always been real since the beginning of earths existence.
What is not real is that humans can do anything to control it globally. Humans can only control the micro climate of the environment, such as cleaning up cities from smog. etc.

I focused on teaching my daughter about controlling organizations from the time she was 6 ( when my husband began his re interest in the JW) I wouldn't mention JW specifically, but focus on the tactics of controlling organizations and how dangerous they are. I then used multiple types, MLM, some political groups, and also religions.
Eventually I would casually mention a thing or two about the JW. Then explaining that I worry about what would happen if her Dad became baptized. When she was a preteen I mentioned more difficult things like shunning as a fear, then quickly say there is no way of knowing if her Granny etc would actually do that, but the Watchtower teaches them they must, and they would get in trouble if they disobeyed that instruction. I would mention things like did she notice her granny never mentioned Christmas etc, and then explained why. This was over a period of many years that I would bring it up. Eventually she put the pieces together and asked if the JW were a cult. I answered that many people believe that they are. Books have been written on that.
I would not have a long conversations with her, but short ones so she didn't feel lectured to.
It worked for my daughter. At this point I believe she is inoculated. Thankfully, since she is now just turned 15, and living with her Dad since September. I insisted he move out due to physical abuse and constant verbal abuse, and he convinced her she needed to be with him, or should I say guilted her. He also has been " sharing" about his feelings, and telling her I am mentally unstable. The usual words of an abuser trying to change the perception of reality.
But that is another long story.....
