Bible Hoarders.
by scotoma ini was really turned off by the segment of the meeting dealing with the watchtower's bible collection.
i thought i was at the antique road show on pbs.. what was that all about?
it was so bizzarre for these "annointed" ones to get off on collecting these old printed bibles.. you can get excellent scans of just about any historical document.. looked like a personal hobby of sanderson the nararator.. there is something idolatrous and at the very least a sick display of the hoarding instinct in the glee coming from getting their "paws" on these treasures.. what a disappointment to see a religion started by people who wanted to abandon all earthly things and join christ in the air, fawn over these relics carefully preserved as a memorial they can fondle.. are they really in the museum business now?

I voted for the first time last year. I realize that women and Blacks had to fight for this right. It's time that I exercise it.

Will gay marriage hurt freedom of religion?
by jam insorry if this have been posted before.. but in my local newspaper today an interesting article.. red blue america... the first amendment and same-sex marriage cannot coexist harmoniously.
something will have to give---and it will start with the freedom of conscience.. here's why: if the law says there can be no "rational basis" for treating the union between a man and a woman as something unique-if a union between any two(or,perhaps someday, more) consenting adults is a "marriage"----then it really doesn't matter what your conscience tells you.. we don't prosecute people for holding unpopular beliefs--yet- but the authorities do look askance at discrimination.
that's why we hear so much lately about caterers, photographers and florists running afoul of several states' civil rights laws for refusing to do business with gay couples.. it's only a matter of time before what we understand as "freedom of religion" is whittled down to little more than the freedom to worship whatever deity you choose in a special building one day out of the week.. this is not the entire article, just a few key points.

NO.
The law that was passed in MD states that a religious institute will not be forced to peform same-sex marriages. With that said, there are many churches like Unitarian Universalist that will gladly provide a religious ceremony if said gay couple wishes it.
Like someone already said, the problem is when a church-run institute provides services for the general public but not for the gay public. Discrimination, pure and simple.
