When it was discovered that there was no year zero, this was changed to 607B.C.E. without question.

On page 105 the Revelation Book quotes:

Providentially, those Bible Students had not realized that there is no zero year between "B.C." and "A.D." Later, when research made it necessary to adjust B.C. 606 to 607 B.C.E., the zero year was also eliminated, so that the prediction held good at "A.D. 1914."

There was research that shows that the date was changed by one year. But no quotations from historians, no historical evidence provided. Just a statement.

So what was the evidence did they provide? Did they ever provide any?

(1988) quotes the old barbour booklet on page 105:.

When studying the Revelation book (I was a child), I noted that the date was changed from 606 to 607 with no real explanation of why, other than the year zero was "mistakenly" included.

I asked my father about it and he stated that "it just so happened" that they realised their mathematical error and historical error at the same time, so the date didn't need to be changed.

I knew something wasn't adding up in this religion though I couldn't be specific - I was probably less than 10 years old. This was the first piece of evidence I had where it really did seem they were making it all up as they went along.

Elders letter to "KEEP MOUTH SHUT" after Candace Conti verdict?

just noticed on another thread that a letter was sent out telling elders to keep their mouths shut after the wt lost the case?.

anybody got this???.

I am sure relevant elders will have letters. If they speak to reporters, for example, it could ruin their appeal.

There is probably no point sending letters to all elders since they don't know the facts of the case other than what a reporter could find out themselves.

i am just curious about this because although i agree with many of the posters here that the wt society is guilty of many horrible deeds, i still believe they are right when it comes to doctrinal things as i mention.

especially hellfire.

i just don't see how anybody that has studied the bible for many years like many of the ex-jws here can make an about face and go back to believing hellfire.

Except, I've read the old testiment. He was cruel many times in there, so why not again?

Simple. Change the "two witness" rule to allow a court case to act as a "second witness".

Then, report the offense to the police. If the person is found guilty in court, they can be disfellowshipped and be dealt with by the authorities.

It removes responsibility to solve/stop any crimes by elders and allows authorities to act immediately. The person can be removed as a JW if found guilty. Plus, any spokesman can say "We reported this to the police" and "we have now removed this person as being a JW" which will look good to the public and JWs.

i'd like to hear from those who are currently elders or were formerly elders on your honest feelings about the charges brought against the society and their general policy in handling these matters.

do you think that the society handles child abuse accusations fairly?

or, do you think their policy is abusive?

i have been reading all these wonderful posts about this huge victory for justice against the sick, evil old men of the watchtower with immense delight!.

that said, i think it well that we should consider what the longer term effects of their defeat will be.. i continue to think that they will be under enormous pressure to discreetly end the circuit overseer arrangement somehow.

there have been many rumors about this but the watchtower is stuck with a real dilemma.

Remember the Panorama programme a few years ago? Many avoided watching it and those that did put down to apostates.

I remember it well yet I never saw it.

Clearly remember the brother reading the letter from Bethel telling us that we should not watch the program.

The first time I saw it was just a few weeks ago thanks to YouTube.

They will try to keep this case hidden from as many members as possible, at least to start with.
