Wasanelder Once: I saw 1917 and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Looking forward to seeing this on the weekend!
yes, folks, it will soon be that time of year when obscenely wealthy actors, script writers and directors will collect their oscars and give little thank you speeches, strangely working in social commentary and/or extinction rebellion propaganda.. i know it's a huge back-slapping exercise that many people (including me) find off-putting.. but, there is one nomination that i've got my eye on and hope will win its category.
its nomination is for best cinematography and the film is the lighthouse (2019), directed and co-written by robert eggers.
i haven't seen it yet but it's on my 'to see list', as i really liked eggers's previous (debut) film, the witch (2016).. i'll definitely buy the lighthouse when it comes out on dvd.

I am really wanting to see this too! I'm a massive movie nerd. We are going to see 1917 on the weekend, been looking forward to it since seeing the trailer.
so in this past week i came across a stash of my old elder stuff.
i've scanned a bunch of notes and agendas, and public talk outlines.. check out an agenda and my notes from the meeting here: https://imgur.com/gallery/qqmyczn.
i’ve put an explanatory note on each image in imgur.
Well, this looks terribly efficient and business like. My recollection of elders meetings were much more rambling and verbal. Individuals never kept notes , people would raise matters as the thought came to them and the P/ O or Coordinator usually had no idea of how to keep control.
Later the Secretary was obliged to take minutes , but that was it.
Our body were quite organised and I've always been a notes nerd! I think that rather than minutes, just action points were taken down for ours.
NB , did you really get through that agenda in one hour? We used to have meetings that lasted hours on end. That I included a break for tea and biscuits half way .
I think we did with this one as there were only a handful of agenda points. There were plenty of others that went onnnn and onnnnnnnnnn however. Never had biscuits though!

Could this be a pandoras box if more ex-elders made these notes more public? Or would it be opening up ex-Elders for liability in disclosing this information or even incriminating them in some way?
I'm redacting any identifying info and won't be posting any that have anything toooo bad in them. I thankfully never had to deal with a sexual abuse case, so there's none of that.
I'm guessing anyone who has never been an elder might not know the kinda stuff that goes on in the back room. Hopefully these will give people a glimpse into that secret world.

Esse quam videri: "Single incident. Honest. Told wife."
I wonder what hell the culprit had to pay when the wife tore into him.
"But sweetheart, it was a total accident that I typed dirtyfilthysluts dot com into my browser, I was meant to type jw dot org!"

jp962: I wonder if I have any of my notes. I was an elder for 20 years. Most are mundane, but some might be "informative." I'll take a look.
It's so weird for me looking back on these now. We were cleaning out a cupboard and there was the notebook, right at the bottom!

slimboyfat: “Confirm no action but no more chances” — love it!
"You touch that thing again and you're OFF the team!"
slimboyfat: ”Status of schooling” — does that mean to ensure that no higher education is going on, or what?
I can't recall what this one was about, this guy had two young kids and I think one of them might have been in trouble at school

@slimboyfat: I don’t recall seeing elders’ agendas or notes before. This is quite informative.
I have quite a few more that I will post up in due course. I scanned them all over the weekend and need to go through them with a black pen to protect the innocent. It's so weird looking back on this stuff now
we had to go off grid for a time, time and half a time as we thought we had been outed.
fortunately it was a false alarm, but it was a stressful time.
i asked for my original diary thread to be deleted in case there could be anything on there to identlfy mrs smith and i. i am always very careful when posting, and am sure there was nothing on there, but felt it best to have it removed in order to be as cautious as a dove.
@All or Nothing: Glad to hear that you are both out, it sure makes the post-exit life a lot easier. When the site changed from JWN to the new format, it seems to have messed up the format of the OP. Looks weird with no paragraphs!
@jp1692: Greetings!
@Magnum: Thanks for checking it out. I had a read through the whole thread last night and I am glad I wrote it all down at the time it was happening because there is so much that I have now forgotten! I will post an update on where things are at with us in due course.
i am surprised no one has mentioned what is going on in canada.. maybe they have but i missed it.
so here are some of the facts as i know them.
ontario only.. sault st. marie had their six congregations whittled down to two.
