Actually, I know exactly what is going on here: the usual difference of opinion to be expected when a large group of people from diverse backgrounds come together, without a high control cult to force them to all pretend they are in agreement.
I am so thankful that we are in a situation where we can have a difference of opinion. I don't think there are HQ lurkers here, but if there are, know this: the disagreements here are normal and healthy, and I think most here would agree that it is better to suffer the slings and arrows of a difference of opinion between two adult intelligent men, than to have everyone's opinion provided for them like we are all children.
OK, now I've got to go through the threads and find out what is going on aroun here!

I had a lovely long telephone discussion with an "un-interested person" that I haven't spoken with in a very long tim: MY MOTHER.
I left with her news of a secret elder's book (40+ year in the faith and she had never heard of it, and she is married to an elder). She wanted to see a copy, but as I didn't have one to give here, and since she is 250km away, I asked her to ask my elder father if she could borrow his copy.
I also brought up the UN issue (which we discussed at great length during our last "telephone study", and she said "Oh yes, I forgot about that. Do you have any proof?" I responded "Did you make an effort to find the proof yourself, in the places I suggested to look?" Her response: "No, no." So I reminded her that sometimes we have to seek out the truth for ourselves.
Just when I was starting to think that maybe she wasn't taking her un-study seriously, and that maybe I should drop her, but I asked her "Do you think the allegation of UN involvement, if proven, if serious and important?" And her response was "OH YES, OF COURSE IT IS IMPORTANT. That would just be so... I mean come on, the UN... that is why I am having such a hard time believing this."
I wonder if she will remember this statement once she has the proof.
On the whole, I had a very good week of un-Witnessing!

in the various christian churches i've attended no ones 'departure' is ever announced unless there's a farewell or party, always 'positive' - wishing the departees 'good luck'.
am i getting this right...everytime someone is df'd or da'd an announcement is made, usually on thursday nights (or whenever).

SS, I was just thinking the same thing. I guess those guardian angels that are rumoured to be following and protecting JWs when they are out in service don't extend their protection to 11month old babies of householders!
