Sorry I could not make it.
I am of mixed feelings that a world religions conference had a portion on atheism, since that may confirm, in some people's mind, the incorrect idea that non-beleif in (insert deity of your choice here) is, in itself, a religion. (Indeed, some of the posts here seem to be repeating that canard).
OTOH, it is good that you were able to present the evidence-based view to people that, I suspect, would never hear it otherwise.

Apostate Presence Rattles World Conference on Religion
by SickofLies ini know many of you probably never saw my post a few days ago inviting everyone to the world religions conference where i was a key note speaker.
i'd like to send a big thank you to kwintestal and mincan for showing and giving their support, surfice to say it made quite an impression that the three people standing up and defending atheism at the event were all ex-witnesses.
the theme for the event was on the topic of morals and modesty.

Eventually it will be the end of each of our "worlds" Although not necessarily all at the same time. I hope I go with a smile on my face when my world comes to an end. Hopefully, about 150 years from now. ;) ~Q

When defending the 1975 mess, WTS always, and I mean *ALWAYS* quotes those one or two cautionary sentences in the WT mag. In fact, the quote they now focus on was virtually buried in page-after-page of 'near certainty' and 'highly appropriate' and 'part of gods wonderful plan' quotes that filled many articles and even public talks at assemblies. It is being totally disingenuous for WTS to only "remember" those few-and-far-between cautionary notes.
They entire book "Life Everlasting In Freedom of the Sons of God" dealt with 1975 more than anything else. What's that? Never heard of that book? Yeah, that's because the WTS has virtually expurgated its existence from their history. They are hoping that everyone forgets that it ever existed.
Furthermore, there is a big flaw in the "it was only some brothers and some congregations, it wasn't the Society's teaching or fault" argument. The flaw is: don't all JWs speak with "one language"? Don't they all preach and teach the same thing? If that is the case, how could "a few brothers, at some places, on their own" cause this mistaken 1975-ism?
Furthermore, the large drop in JW adherents post-1975 demonstrates that their was a wide disappointment and falling away. This was not a minor blip at just a couple of congregations, despite what WTS would like to have you believe. The expectation was source from the WTS hierarchy, and the blame for the resulting disappointment belongs there as well.

Was the WTS correct?
by chappy inbased on current events, do you think the wts could be at least partially correct on their prediction about organized religion being banned by many governments or even some future un mandate?
what about the western governments (us, britain, france, germany etc)?
think it could or even may happen?

Only correct to the same level that I was correct in my prediction that monkeys would fly out of my butt.

Yes, taking the average of the group, I would say this group is rather average. We can reasonably expect a large group of people to be quite, erm, reasonable. ~Q

ARMAGGEDDON 2008!
by badboy insomeone is predicting 2008 as end of the world.. what do you think?.
-
Quotes
Once upon a time...
There was a poster on this board who predicted Armageddon by a certain date. That date came and went (several years ago now). That poster (I can't remember the name) quietly disappeared from JWD. I always imagined the reason was because they could not get online because they have already given away their computer, thinking that they wouldn't need it. I guess I'll never know for sure what happened to them.
For the record, I will personally wager ANY amount of money to ANYONE that ANY date of YOUR choosing is NOT armagedon. Anyone care to bet?

Where you have "World Wide Order" I thought it should read "Special Order of Full Time Servants" -- unless the name has changed in the recent past.
Nice chart! Good to hand to JWs when the brag about the supposed lack of clergy/laity distinction. In fact, they have more levels than the Catholic church. ~Q -

so today i got this song in my head, and couldn't get it unstuck, so i decided to write alternate lyrics to it... when i get that tune in my head now, i'll have words that work!
