trillaz, we just arent gonna convince each other of our views. I agree whole-heartedly that it is too easy for criminals to get guns. But I am 110% sure that, at this point in time, considering the hundreds of millions of guns in existence already, that even if tonight (lets just pretend) the US banned all production and sale of non-law enforcement guns, that guns would be just as easy to get. What can be done to stop this sort of thing? I wish I knew.

If you believe the bible, the third human on earth killed the fourth human on earth. And people have been killing each other ever since. If I wanted to kill someone, or myself, I wouldn't HAVE to have a gun to do it. Does it make it easier? Absolutely, no intelligent person would argue that.

But the fact is that there are evil, sick people out there. Just today I stopped in a crosswalk and 10 toddlers crossed in front of me at the same time, being taken on a walk by 4 daycare providers. Whats to stop a sick bastard from noting when the kids go for walks and running them over with their cars? Its disgusting that someone gets to the point that they want to harm innocents like this. If we only go after gun control and do not look at the mental health issues, this sort of thing is gonna keep happening.

Trust me, every gun owner on this forum is just as sick over todays tragedy as everyone else here. If not, they are not human.

we have 9 guns for every 10 people in this country.

since more guns = better protection, i keep asking myself why there is so much gun violence here ???.

i don't see such violence in canada, australia, europe, japan and other so-called "advanced" countries.. what is wrong with us here.

We need better laws to battle illegal drug use.

But they are already illegal in every possible way. Some of the possesion laws may be too life altering if anything. If President Obama had been caught the times he was smoking pot, he would likely NEVER have been able to become President. Yet he is President, and others who get caught end up in jail with court records that follow them for the rest of their life.

I'm not equiped or desirous to go on a debate about what should or should not be allowed drug-wise, but the war on drugs is pretty hardcore, yet simply does very little, if anything effective.

puff, there has been some inroads on the war on drugs. Broken Windows had an effect, basically cutting off the source of new recruits for the drug trade.

The US prison population and homeless population would beg to differ. People who have commented that they don't know where to get drugs have obvioulsy never tried. Its insane how easy it is to get.

Sure, when I was a kid we all signed the D.A.R.E. pledge and wore tshirts, and two years later were smoking pot in the woods behind the school. The war on drugs is a complete failure, and the governement knows it. For every pound of cocaine they catch coming across the border, theres at least a hundred they don't. Watch locked up abroad and you will see how esy it is for drug kingpins to get stupid or desperate people to mule it over for them, taking no risk and putting all the risk on the poor sob that was tricked into smuggling it.

Are you suggesting, puff, that availability has no impact on use?

No, I am stating that legality has little impact on availability. Look at the war on drugs. Absolute failure. Look at alcohol prohibition back in the early 20th century in the US. All it did was provide fast cars, and gangsters. Alcohol still flowed freely. Even J.F. Rutherford was still a drunk during prohibition.

Simon, I started this thread before I knew of the school shootings, and I am pretty sure it was before they even happened. I most certainly did not mean to be insensitive to the tragedy in CT today.

Do you really believe that? When I was in high school I could buy any drug imaginable without leaving school grounds. If I want marijuana, I know guys that deliver faster than dominos. I have never used any harder type of drug, but I know how easy they are to get and could get them buy the end of the day guaranteed if I wanted to. With no fear of arrest at all.

it is not the middle ages, the rrvolutinary or civil war time- it's now - 2012 and soon to be 2013. america needs to become like canada, now now now.

you can argue all you want, but if you can't open your eyes, you have some deep dark issues that require a shrink.. i will not answer you or taunt you.

After A Day In Field Service, Did You Get Euphoric Or A Spiritual High?

i know this might sound silly but field service did provide a strange type of good feelings after i was done.

i called this the "halo-effect" because i felt so "righteous, obedient and good" for taking the weirdos or "the friends" in my station wagon.

vans and station wagon owners in the congregations often get used hard, pile up seven whacks and your off!

I was in field service for a WHOLE YEAR before I saw anybody place a magazine with a householder. So all those assemblies and conventions (or should I say sales meetings!) that interviewed people who placed dozens of magazines and literature always mystified me.

Look in the trunk of the average JW's car and its got piles of months old mags that they are afraid to throw out. At least thats how it was when I was still going in service.
