Blondie - I agree! I remember a young man in my old hall who would PUT the word STRESS on every THIRD word because HE clearly hadn't BEEN taught to READ with proper EMPHASIS by his SCHOOL. Oops, I MEAN his parents WHEN they home SCHOOLED him. Annoying ISN'T it?

i stopped believing in god in july 2013. in the first 3 months or so i felt liberated and relieved that i can live my life anyway i wanted without worrying about an invisible being watching my every move.

i also felt slightly superior that i was able to figure out that god isn't real while the majority of mankind continued to be fooled.

atfer the feelings of excitment statrted to wear off, i started to become more depressed and empty.

This thread seems rather a moot point. Do we believe (or not) because of the benefits such a belief brings, or because of the importance of believing the truth (as we see it)??

Space Madness, are you implying that you regret stopping believing in god? If so, what benefit does that have? Are you likely to believe in god again just to lower your risk of suicide?!

Believe what you believe, just make sure it is what you truly believe, THAT is most likely going to be the problem that creates suicides, any form of cognitive dissonance.

Personally I felt more suicidal when I was a witness, because I wasn't sure that I actually thought it was the truth, and was letting them shit on me and my kind from a great biblical height.

does anyone remember a story about humans visiting a planet where they had fruit that smelt so delicious that it was almost impossible to resist but if you did eat it, it changed you genetically into a different species that i think was immortal.

seem to remember something about the 'victim' losing their human face and a sort of beak would form.

sound familiar to anyone?.

I'm so tempted to ask about a UK SciFi series for teenagers that must have been on about 20-25 years ago, about a young lad who was running from his 'kind' on earth, afraid that they would kill him, and some teenagers in the UK helped him. At the end of the series it turned out it was all OK and just a rite of passage...

Growing a beard!!

i am doing one of my dreams for a while: growing a beard.

it may not seem like much, but it's quite the experience for me.

it's probably a rite of passage from jw to exjw lol.. besides the itchyness, i hate it that it curls so much (i have hairs that naturally start to curl after a certain length).. anyone here have tips on taking care of a beard?

The itchiness subsides for a bit. The elders enquiring as to whether you are allowing your body to do a natural thing your body does due to rebelliousness might not be so hard to shake.

I love my beard, although conservative estimates puts the ageing of me into double figures...

Consenting adults are very different from minors and animals, don't you think? Hyperbole gets you nowhere.

i was once counseled for not shaving after two days.

i was also counseled by a sister for eating lucky charms cereal.

I agree Julia, also in many of the experiences I can see the impotent and unimpressive older men (and wives) seeing an opportunity just to make themselves feel a little more important.

In some ways it's actually quite sad that this is one of the few ways they can exert their individuality and pretend that they have any kind of knowledge or edumaction...
