'Religion is a consensual affair, not a permanent contract'
by lisaBObeesa ini came across this blog, "church discipline," some time ago, and it's been going through my mind ever since.... check out part of this post from dec 2008.... why is a bad idea to continue church discipline on non members?.
first off it is violation of domestic law.
religion in american is a consensual affair at all times not permanent contract.

If you don't sign anything when you get in, why would you need to sign anything to be out? Are you effectively entering into a contract with the watchtower, and if yes are you truthfully informed at the time of what this means for you? If not, why not? How would that not be illegal? If you stop going to the meetings/preaching etc, what right does this organization have to keep bothering you with anything?
How can they justify disfellowshiping anybody for apostasy just for criticising the organization? If their real motivation is to follow the Bible, why can they not be questioned without negative consequences when even God allowed Abraham to question Him? Are they saying they are more than God? If so, they should admit it openly.

Hi Band on the Run, I don't know about you but I am very happy that I wasn't born in the middle ages, we have come a long way since people were burned in the stakes for what they believed, but it would be desirable to keep progressing rather than going back to another type of tyranny only with different methods. It's really up to us, if law does not equal fairness and justice or correct any wrong, what's the whole point of it? What do you propose?

They don't need to spell the whole sentence, everybody understands exactly what it means and what they need to do if they don't want to end up being next.

New US Government Petition re: Cults and Tax Exemptions
by mind blown inthis is on the official us government site.. note: someone was under the impression this was unconstitutional and it wouldn't pass, however, steven unthank replyed that tax exempt status (re: usc title 26 501 tax exemptions requirements) is not a constitutional right and can indeed be regulated by the us government through the irs.
freedom of religion does no mean freedom from tax.

Hi Robert, I am not an expert in law, but if I enter into a contract with you and I omit important facts, and lie to you about others, is this contract still legally valid? Also, could you denounce me for fraud?

Some religions are actually positive in the lives of people, and a good social influence, unfortunately the witness, as much as they brag about it, are not. We only need to see the results in the lives of the people that are still in the organization (brainwashed individuals, child-like, manipulated...) and the ones who leave, who will end up losing their family, friends and good name just because they have finally opened their eyes to what the org is really about. It is a totalitarian or mafia like philosophy, only on a different level (they wont shoot you if you leave, they'll only kill you figuratively), but the principle behind is the same.
Other religions with all their shortcomings, are doing a good job in helping people in many different ways. The Watchtower is heading down, but they want to take cristendom as they call it, down with them. Jws (the leaders), are not interested in people, whatever they are interested in, is something else.

The question is: is the organization main focus to help individuals or to help themselves? If they are there mainly to help themselves they are not a charity or a npo, they are a business and should be dealt with as such.
To find out if their main focus is to help individuals or to help themselves we can pay attention to the people that was involved with them, and see if they have a sense of gratitude, or even indiference or rather a sense of having been scammed and manipulated.

I think there is a fundamental difference between a religion, that helps improve people's lives and a cult, that is damaging to people's lives at many levels, mostly because it lies to people for the benefit of the cult and makes them supporters of something that they would not support if they had all the facts. Jws may claim that they improve people's lives, but everything they do is done for the service of the cult not of the person, and the real objective of the cult is to benefit themselves. There are other religions that help improve people's lives without the control, lies, blackmail etc of the jws and therefore they shouldn't be put in the same basket. The catholic church, that jws so openly have always critizied, helps everybody without asking their religion, and it is mostly a force for good, for example it played a major role in the fall of communism. Also I want to add that the millions of supporters of the catholic church do so out of their own volition, they are not coerced, lied to, blackmailed etc as is the case with the jws, that whether they are aware of it or not they are being manipulated by the organization. What I say about the catholic church can be said of many other churches. The fact that jws have a religion status in many countries is a distortion of reality. They are a cult, and people that come in contact with them end up losing out not winning out. Therefore they shouldn't be tax exempt as if they were a religion because they are not.
