well i just had my elder visit here in my temporary job location town.
stood on the door stoop was not allowing them in my home uninvited.
my family had their visit on the weekend while i was down there(260 miles away) visiting.
it may have slipped past me, but did we see a boe letter descibing how these visits should be handled? it seems like the same questions are being asked in the same manner, so there must have been specific instruction on this"loving" arrangement to reactivate ones?

BTW another thing i hate is the "pioneer dinner", do other areas have this event. a dinner for our "hardworking-fabulous pioneers" and their spouses, but it just so happens that the elders and the ms's (and wives)are invited also, very convenient. i wonder what would happen if i threw a Publishers only party? ? ?

if you missed my previous 2 posts, here's some to catch up...part one and part two.
i emailed the township trustee and i told her of my situation and that he found out from my dad that i lost my job at wal-mart and i have been trying to buy time to find another job with no avail.
i don't want to seem harsh, but if i were in dire need of cash, i would not be on the internet. there are always jobs out there,,you just have to be willing to look and accept anything that comes along. now is not the time for pity or negative thinking, get out there and change your situation!

when you were a jw, how did you manage to say your "thank you's" before eating in a public place?.

even today i get slack because i don't as a rule pray directly before i eat. a time to pray is not specified in the scriptures. we do know that jesus prayed over the memorial feast and items,but that was a totally different senario. so i definately don't pray in public, i have plenty of time to do it in private

when you were active, did you buy any lottery tickets?
i know a xjw who told me that he never stopped buying lottery tickets, even when he was active.
he always asked somebody else to go get them for him, so that he wouldn't be seen buying them.
i do ever once in a while( the lottery is just a good way to waste money) and gambling at a casino doesn't bother me. there was an article in the wt just this week(study wt) talking about betting small amounts, like playing penny poker for fun.(if someone can scan it) the words the society uses for discouraging it are very carefully placed, in all of their articles on gambling they state that it "can incite greed" and in the flock book GREED is the problem. but the articles say you should "AVOID" gambling so as NOT TO INCITE greed. ; we can notice the difference if you plug in any other sin......................... we should AVOID adultery, killing, slander,stealing,.....blood ????????? so we can see that there is not a very strong arguement to stop gambling just like eating, drinking, recreation ; when it is done responsibly and in moderation. if there was we would be instructed " you must not gamble, we would not even think about gambling, gamblers would not inherit gods kingdom" the article about a year ago in the awake said NOTHING about how bad gambling was but how 3 or 4 people stopped being addicted to gambling<

sorry that i haven't posted for a while, been moving house and congregation over the last few weeks.. just thought that i will mention, the comments made by our co at the elders meeting on the friday of his visit.. with the elders starting the visits on the inactive in jan and feb, it was suggested by the society to start a week or so earlier to see how many have inactive ones have christmas decorations and so-on.. it was also suggested that if such ones are celebrating a pagan festival, it could be classed as false worship.
which is classified as a "self-disassociation offence" and hence an announcement could be made to the congregation.. my question is this, is it just our co taking things in to his own hands or is this now national or international policy.

fortunately i don't jump for titles or priviledges! i told the elder's " no matter what you say to me it is not going to stop me from KNOWING i am a good brother" and i am just sorry that you cant see that i am doing my best . as you might figure i was not too shook up about it,, less stress for me, infact i now have downgraded my amount of reported hours to 1 and 2 mags, even though my cbso and the whole cong see me go out in service 2 or 3 times a month....

nice to hear from you again, those of us still in love your insight,
just a few questions. During the elders meeting, it is a discussion, or a talk to you by the co?i mean, can anyone ask the co to clarify a point or even DISAGREE with him? and what is your cong.'s requirements to be "used" at the hall? my hall has just recently started using only ms and elders to handle just about every task at the hall. i got booted from reading the wt for "low " hours (4 per month) after a few years of reading, which lead to a heated discussion because the elders said "there is not standard or rule,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BUT" i told them that if you were a brother who was a regular part of the congregation if felt you should be able to read, attend, do lit counter, etc which he didnt like,, the reason it is so easy at our hall is because we have only one or 2 like that, you are either an ms or very irregular....
any insight would help

i am so glad i am going to be out of town when this article is being considered, i don't think i could contain myself from saying a stupid(but correct) comment at the meeting. i just got the "you are not preaching enough" speech (hey i thought 5 hours was plenty), so i have now started to turn in 1 hour a month,,, thats it. i am tempted to put like 25 for next month to bring up my average, but i dont think i want the hassle... even before this thread i had my answer for the question, "what are the reasons for turning in time?"..................................... my answer------- "So the elders can judge publishers spirituality and determine if they have enough hours to be used in the congregation" i dont think i would have the balls to say it but it would be nice... and i think the first paragraph with the crowd estimates means -------we just have to do a better job at counting attendance(which they are pretty anal about already, double count at the assemblies? come on, counting the restrooms?)

what were or are the qualifications for certain "responsibilities" around the hall?
our hall literally has only ms or elders --- attending, doing stage set up, handling book counter/service desk, and reading wt and closing the service meeting with song and prayer.... the only exception is the young son of a high ranking elder at our hall... they put the restrictions that a ms has to meet on these activities, i am regular, but not active enough in the service although i assured them i was "doing the best i could" (3 - 5 hours a month) but they acted like that was terrible.... we had a heated discussion for 30 minutes.... .

i was just asking because we have 6 elders and 6 ms's, and they just eliminated the only brother that was reading the wt who was NOT a servant.... it is weird because we don't have hardly any "middle of the road" brothers, they are either servants or rarely come to the meetings the ONLY decent brothers we have are the late teens who come with their parents, i just had a hard time when they said that my hours were NOT good enough , they said,,"there is no rule or quota to meet,,,,BUT we won't consider anyone without the national average and the CO will ask what my problem is because i am not in double digits" i kinda went off on the brother and said he was contradicting himself
