During the WT study yesterday, a sister made a comment that I have a hard time forgetting - something about "the society or Jehovah approving of" something related to divorce. It was always something that I've inferred based on the actions of most JWs, but I never thought that some would say it blatantly.

Nothing new, but JWs view the Society & Jehovah as the same

I have two bicycles...they are my transportation. When I move out, that won't be changing. No one's getting any free rides...while I'm still in.

Anyone care to guess the age of this baptismal candidate?
by cedars inthis picture appears on page 30 of the latest october 15th 2012 watchtower in an article discussing the importance of sticking to our baptismal vows..... .
anyone care to guess how young this poor chap is?.

I know exactly 0 people who hold their Bible like that.
Anyway, he is probably 14 or maybe even younger...regardless, he's still too young. Heck, I was too young when I got baptized, which was at 14.

What brought you here?
by leaving_quietly infolks here all have one thing in common: they are somehow associated with jws, either were one, are married to one, have a relative who is one, has a romantic interest in one, are are currently one.
perhaps you are not one, but something about jws bugs you enough to have found this forum, and read it and contribute to it.
what brought you here?

I was researching the greek word "porneia" to see what the real meaning of the word is...I was having trouble accepting the fact that the WT can just define a 2000+ year old word that's not even in use anymore, and change its meaning as they see fit. I was doing this research because I was starting to think that religion in general is the reason sex is so taboo in this world...and then I discovered this site.
I read the thread that Google linked me to, which was discussing a watchtower study article that was talking about sex. Then I went to the list of threads, and couldn't stop reading, because I was discovering so much information, especially on the things that I've been asking myself/doubting for a long time. I discovered this site at about 13:00, and went to sleep exactly 12 hours later, reading this site non-stop. I discovered everything wrong about this organization, and just recently the fact that voting in elections is merely a conscience matter, and not forbidden like JWs think. It can be found in the 1999 watchtower, 1 November, pg. 28-29 "Questions from Readers".

"The media are going to spread lies about us!" (from 2012 DC audio drama of Jehovah's Witnesses)
by JimmyPage inyes during this year's audio drama about jesus' death it was said from the platform that the media is going to be spreading lies about jehovah's witnesses and that we should pay no attention to them.
did they say this at your convention location?.
also during the drama about marriage it was obvious to me that brothers are not reaching out for privileges the way they used to.

My convention is in two weeks. I'll keep an ear out for that.

No more 3-day DCs starting in 2013?
by respectful_observer inapologies if there is another recent thread on this, but i have heard from 4 different people in 3 different geographic areas (including someone who does advance work for the dcs), that beginning in 2013 the three day dc program will be replaced by a second two-day circuit assembly.
some people were passing the info along like a secret, others seemed to think that everyone already knew.. if everyone in j-dub land is already talking about this, how is it not all over this forum??.
anyway, can anyone confirm or deny?.

That's a bunch of BS. The book study merge didn't help to "save gas" (in our case at least) because it was on Sunday mornings for us, right before the field service meeting. After the merge, the field service meeting stayed, but the meeting didn't, so it didn't make a difference. I was really hoping that I could enjoy my Sunday mornings at home, but that was quickly shot down.
And besides, not everyone drives. But of course the WTS thinks that because they base everything off their American tendencies and culture.

I AM THE NEW MEETUP ORGANIZER FOR EX-JW's IN MICHIGAN
by AK MCGRATH inhi all you fellow michiganders.. i wanted to make you aware that the meetup site entitled, "ex-jehovah's witnesses of michigan" will not be disolved.
i decided since today was the last day before it would be no more, i should step up, and so i gladly did.. seeing that there has not been one meetup since it's inception, i plan to change that.
i know there is at least one person from here who is registered with our meetup.

I'd love to organize a meetup for ex-jws/physically in-mentally out jws for my area, but the thought of just who would show up just might stop my poor old heart - okay, maybe it wouldn't stop, since I'm only in my twenties, but I do have a few hunches as to who in my congregation is in the same boat as me...I just don't know how to make a move, and if I can trust them.

Thank you, Watchtower!
by Chariklo inincreasingly, i find myself resistant to any form of religion that dictates exactly what i should believe, what i should wear, down to the last skirt to meeting, or what i eat, what i read, what i watch, and denies me my god-given right to think for myself and to use the brain he gave me.. that's what i've gained from the watchtower.. thank you, watchtower!
you've done a good thing!

Which is why you can't go to college and you can't use the internet unless you're going to jw.org/watchtower.org.

I'm assuming this to be true, since there are so many point of views that agree with each other. It's certainly a welcome change...three days back to back were such a drag. But I agree - seven days, 12 hours each day...that is a test!

Haven't attended KH in 3 months...
by 2tone ini haven't attended the kingdom hall in over 3 months now.
it really is a great feeling.
no dreading the thursday night or feeling like your weekend is wasted because of sunday morning.

Nice! One of the biggest things I dread about being a JW is how I basically have no weekends. Saturday I have to go out in FS (since I can't during the week), and Saturday afternoon is a meeting. Sunday morning is when the FS groups meet to go out in FS. Almost all of the local events happen on Saturday and Sunday mornings - like bike rides, farmer's markets, tours, meetups, etc., and I haven't been able to attend ANY of them because of the weekend FS. Once I decide to attend one of these events instead of going out in FS, I suddenly value entertainment more than Jehovah (the WT).
