Yes, Kite gave the 'talk heard round the world'. He was a C.O. at the time--a powerful speaker--and gave the audience what they came to hear. Witnesses everywhere were sending taped copies to one another. Bethel was deluged with letters inquiring whether the talk represented the Society's view. It was such a phenomenon that the Service Department overseer (Harley Miller) had to write, telling him to 'cease and desist' giving it.

i just want to know if jws that have been in the "truth" all their lives, having given all for the "kingdom" die in peace or whether in the autumn and winters of their lives, they are stung by nagging intrusive thoughts... "i have given my whole life to this organisation and where is the new system?".
i ask because these people were taught they were in "the last days" when they grew up many decades or even a century ago.
how can someone go that long believeing it was going to be tommorrow?

JWs approaching the end of their life 'in this system' normally cannot bear to face the truth that they have been misled. Happily, they do not have to do so ... the Society has wisely and lovingly provided a personal "life story" in the first of each month's Watchtower. These 'life stories' recount (in very carefully edited fashion) how lifelong Witnesses have been able to endure faithfully in preaching the good news and sticking to God's true organization despite disappointments and opposition. Reading these articles each month provides a reassuring affirmation of our life of denial.

i hope all of you are doing okay in light of this terrible tragedy we have witnessed.
it makes me want to join the army or something, it's hard to sit back and do nothing.
upon watching the watchtower's new pr video of the terrorist act in new york city, it is as far away from the reality of what happened as an isolated community can be.
What would I do "to help the people of New York?" ... I'd begin by asking all Bethelites (Brooklyn, Patterson, and Wallkill) to donate blood. This would be a start. And it might just suggest some measure of appreciation for the millions of units of blood that have been donated by 'worldly' people for use by the tens of thousands of JWs who've needed 'acceptable' blood fractions.

i too am numb and sick.
in my opinion the only hope for mankind is following matthew 7:12. as always, i interpet the scripture very broadly and include nonhuman life in the scope of the command.. the difference between me and the witnesses is that they believe that scripture has to be enforced under penalty of death, while i hope that mankind will adopt it on its own merits.
the day the earth stood still stands at the top of my list of movies, and indeed i think it is a movie that should be shown in theatres and classrooms around the world today.. can we learn to share the earth or will we, like the characters in the movie only be able to achieve peace by being policed by an entity outside of our own control and more powerful than ourselves?.

i have just tv-watched two very famous and very rich fleshly sisters, venus and serena williams, play out the final of the 2001 us open tennis championship for women.. venus, the older girl, won the match as expected after two regulation, rather ho hum sets of 'grand slam' tennis.
(maybe their dad had already done a deal with them on who was going to be the winner today.
) anyway, the big new york crowd seemed to get their money's worth, more maybe from the novelty value of sibling rivalry rather than high standard court play.
You are wrong Uncanny. Diana Ross did NOT sing the national anthem; she sang "God Bless America." There WAS NO national anthem (at least not on the broadcast). Whether this was because the Williams girls did not want to be seen not singing it, or whether the tennis association/network bigwigs did not want negative publicity, I cannot say. However, there was no national anthem broadcast on national TV.

i had a victim call me after they had called bethel this morning.
they were informed bethe was offically closed till 1:30 pm for a special meeting with the bethel family.
would anyone care to speculate or verify the purpose of the meeting?
My wife suggests they are downsizing the staff at the Bible House, and this meeting is to review the Society's early retirement package.
